These boards are absolutely wonderful. Don't know which thread I was reading, but found out about Southwest's DING fares. Signed up and kept watching for good rates from Chicago then Wednesday it happened. The best fare imaginable    Round trip, Chicago to Orlando, all fees included for.............. $115.00. :flower: :flower: :flower: Yippee!!!!

Again Disboards, THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

Ain't it great. These boards have helped me save thousands, I'm sure. Not to mention much more enjoyable trips.

Just signed up for Ding the other day. Hoping for SW to realease some great Ding fares for early December!! The $98 RT Ind to Orlando would be the best. I would be saving almost $700 compared to Dayton Air tran prices.

I've had Ding for over a month I think and check it several times a day, but have never seen a fare to Orlando from St Louis or Nashville until today. Unfortunately all that was left when I looked was an 8am return. No way can I do that one. (well, I could, but not dragging dh and dd with me, lol)

Does anyone else here check those airports and see Orlando fares? I also never see the really cheap fares to anywhere from those airports except to obscure destinations like Tulsa. (no offense to Tulsa folks, I just don't see it as a huge vacation destination)

Chamonix--

Just wondering if you remember what the DING was from St. Louis to Orlando. Of course, if it is cheaper than my tickets, I will be disappointed. :sad2: But, either way, still going to Disney!! :flower:

Ouch, I'm from Tulsa. What is there NOT to see in Tulsa. It's a great vacation destination spot. We have the famous Praying Hands of Oral Roberts, remember? :goodvibes Just teasing; I totally agree with you. I have Ding also and I get frustrated that we never get good airfare rates out of Tulsa.

that the thread title made laugh out loud!!:teeth:

You should suggest it to SWA, Popsicle...it would be a great ad for them!! LOL

:sunny:

What is DING? I must be missing something.
Thanks

terrifictigger, that's the other thing I wanted to mention: even when I do see a DING for somewhere I actually want to go (like Orlando) the fares aren't really much better than usual fares. I think the DING STL-MCO was $89 each way. That adds up to around $200 after taxes, etc. That's not much of a sale, I would say I am distinctly underwhelmed with DING fares out of STL.

I prefer to fly AA, (get first class on there most times too! LOL) but would fly SWA if I got one of those really amazing deals like $39 each way or something. Heck, I'd take an extra trip for a long weekend just for those fares! BUT--I've never seen one yet.

Sorry about the Tulsa remark, lol. I'm sure it's a lovely place to call home, it's just not one of those places that scream "exotic vacation" to me.
Of course, before this I had never heard of the Praying Hands! Are they big? I love taking photos of stuff like that. We usually call those "roadside attractions" though. Is Tulsa on Route 66? ;)
JK! I will probably get struck by lightning for typing this! LOL

donnabres, go to Southwest's website and click on DING! for a full explanation. It's a program you can download to your desktop that sends you automatic notifications of Southwest Airlines sales several times a day. It makes a DING! sound like you hear on airplanes when a new sale is sent out.

For SW for some reason I can't put in LGA in NY as a home airport. Why is that?

LGA is an ATA code share airport

you can only select Southwest airports for your home airport

:confused3
What does that mean? Sorry flight impaired here...!

southwest does not fly to LGA or Newark

they Codeshare with ATA which does

you will have to pick Long Island as your home airport

DING! fares are for Southwest cities only

if you look at the Soutwest interactive map, the cities that are black triangles are ATA codeshare. the orange circles are Southwest cities

The only problem with DING! is that now that my family knows I have it and heard the airfare I got "Can't I just watch it for them too?" Doesn't matter how easy I tell them it is to download - they don't want to take the time to check it.

I've now become the family travel agent.

:sunny: Don't give up! I have been checking dings from LI ISP to MCO every day and low and behold flights that weren't available other days at the ding rate are available now! $126.50 RT
Good Luck All!

I am anxious to receive a Ding! rate for my family of 5. The lowest I can find, unfortunately, isn't low enough. Right now the ding is 88$ each way.....times that by five and it is TOO much.

I would love to get $115 round trip!!!! I think I would kiss the pilot!

Fantastic price!!!!!! That's better than my $122 total from Philadelphia (actually that was not Ding - that was Hotwire on US air). So if you're not getting a good fare on Ding, keep trying Hotwire. You'll be surprised when one day it just shows up out of the chear blue! Once you register with hotwire they do remember your requests and will email you with a new price drop.

Just got a Ding today from STL to MCO for $86. I had been watching for some time and finally purchased the airfare when Southwest had their sale for $99 and thought that was pretty good (since the lowest I saw was $155 for some time). But today I cancelled my prior $99 purchase and got them for $86 and saved $110 today for four people (to now be used on an Oct. trip to Chicago!!) Now I just need a DING for Chicago! Waiting for their $34 fare.

Yes, I've seen that Ding STL to MCO for $86 each way. I can't remember, does that include taxes, fees, etc? What was your final charge for the tickets? 86+86=176? Or was it more?
I think that's a good fare, but I would really jump on it if it was below $150RT, which is what I hear people here say they get routinely from other airports. C'mon SWA, wow me! :cheer2:

I don't think I will take a $176 fare when I can fly first class in a guaranteed seat on American for just over $200. :confused3

The fare from STL did not include all fees and taxes. The total RT worked out to be $189.40 per person. The cheapest I could find on AA was $310 RT. Where did you find the $200 rate? (I think the difference is worth it for a guaranteed seat!) Although I already purchased from Southwest. :(
