We are leaving Saturday for a 7 day cruise. I am sooooo excited! I have two questions:
1. Has anyone stayed on Deck 1? If so, have any comments about it?
2. Has anyone spotted dolphins, whales, or other marine life while you were at sea?
Thanks for the info!

I haven't stayed on Deck 1, just Deck 2, and it was fine. :) A very quiet deck.

As for marine life, we have seen LOTS of flying fish during our cruises but no whales or dolphins while at sea.

Enjoy! :)

I have never stayed on deck1 and I have spent hours out on the verandah looking for any sign of marine life ....never saw a thing while at sea. But... as we were leaving Port Canaveral on our last cruise there were some porpoises escorting us out.... really neat. I think it made my whole trip..lol

This wasn't the Magic, but a Princess ship....We saw porpoises?...whatever they were, all the time! From the deck you could see the front of the ship and those things were flying out of the water very often. It was neat.

We were on the 3/9 (fire) cruise. I too kept an eye open for some form of sea life...Was amazed that we did not see much at all. BUT, we did see a whale. It was exciting.

We stayed on Deck 1 (loved this location...so convenient for shore excursions) this past 2/23/02 sailing on the Magic. I loved looking at the porthole but did not see much marine life. We did see flying fish from deck 4 in the bow wake and we saw dolphins/porposises when we sailed out from Port Canaveral. Some people say they spotted whales while at sea.

wow.. I was told that you never see whales because they stay far away from the ships... I'm going to have to keep my eyes open now when I cruise in a couple of weeks. I do live on the ocean so I have seen whales... I just thought it would be exciting to see them while onboard something much bigger than they are...

We went on the Banana Boat ride at Castway Cay in Oct 2001, and about 15 dolphins came and swam with us for about 10 mins. I had a waterproof camera with me, and although the pictures aren't great they are a fantastic reminder!

We stayed on Deck 1 on March 9-16 (the fire cruise) and we loved it! We were right by the elevators so that was very convenient. We could easily walk to Deck 3 or 4 and would usually take an elevator for any higher decks. Since there aren't many rooms on Deck 1, it is very quiet and you don't have to walk far to get to your rooms! Plus it's also really convenient for when you disembark to the islands since the gangway is on your same deck.

When we were leaving St. Maarten, we could see a LOT of some kind of sea life jumping out of the water every once in awhile. We thought they might be dolphins, but were not sure.... We could see fins and they were near the front of the ship... Anyone know what they could have been?? My sister was on Deck 10 one day and she also saw a whale. She said it was HUGE and it was very noticeable to those on Deck 10. She had some binoculars with her that day so could get an even better view.

Have a great trip!

Thank you everyone for your info. I feel much better about my deck 1 cabin now, and afterall, it the experience of the cruise, not the room! I will keep my camera ready to take pics of any marine life. I will post them when I return.

Thank you again!!

I see references above to the "fire cruise" on 3/9. Can some one kindly explain what happened?
