DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Good morning... er uh... afternoon.

Weather is clear here. We're going to be in the upper 80's, possibly even seeing our first 90 degree day of the year this afternoon.

I don't know if any other dads are Android users or what you guys think about it, but I've got a Samsung Galaxy S4 through Verizon. This morning I got the Android update to Lollipop. I usually like getting updates on my phone, but this time I feel like the grumpy old man who hates technology. Not liking the new version of Android nearly as much as the older one. A lot of little quirky changes that are going to take some getting used to.

Hey guys, so much reading to catch up on this thread!

Happy Wednesday.

A wet Wednesday morning to you all.

With my consistent middle school maturity, I immediately went to a joke but thought better to post it.

I don't like the Android operating system. I do like the Samsung Galaxy, and I had a version with Windows OS, and it was the best and longest lasting phone I had (other than the original non smart cell phones). Now, I have the Nokia phone with Windows. I really like my iPad, but I can't afford to upgrade to all their products.

No more stats or record keeping with this new board rollout. Good to see you again! Cliff.

Rainy afternoon so spent some time looking through pictures from the Belize trip. Here are a few...

This was coming to the hotel from the airport. I noticed a couple of checkpoints along the way. Some of them with armed guards. Belize City has a growing reputation for crime. We were in the part of town that is cordoned off and routinely patrolled. We felt safe the entire time we were there but I would not let the kid do her runs outside.

Welcome to Belize City

At the airport, a local business women. Instesting stuff and well made, I think she bought a bead bracelet for a couple of bucks.

The main drag on the way to Hamanasi in a rural area of Belize.

I found the climate and vegetation not unlike Miami but they did have hills

Road building, part of a lot of construction going on. A grant from Venezuela is allowing them to do a lot of capital improvements including using concrete for the roads in Belize City because flooding is an issue and tar roads become nothing but pot holes. This is outside BC where they are satisfied with tar and gravel.

The beach and pool at Hamanasi. The resort was beautiful and well maintained.

On a rainy afternoon it is nice to relive old adventures. Wish I was there now.

Cool pics CJ.

Big day for DS. Tonight is the Grade 8 Farewell Dance. His mother has pictures scheduled at 5 with family and 6 with his date and other friends. popcorn::

Saw a tornado warning on Twitter for the Peterborough area and thunderstorm warnings for Pearson.
There were warnings all over, first further north near where Mom is, she said there were some pretty major gusts, then all over the place. We had some wind and a few odd storms blow through but nothing major. I think they really wanted to test out the new warning systems/alerts they've come up with.

Belize looks beautiful, CJ. You know, aside from the whole need for armed guards and checkpoints.

Afternoon gents, hope all made it safe through the weather stuff yesterday. CJ great pics & thanks for sharing.

GO HAWKS!

Man cave in our house

I wish I had it on video, but when Madison was younger we taught her animal sounds. We were at a family gathering (Thanksgiving, maybe?) and my brother, the farmer, was quizzing her.
Bother: What does a cow say?
Madison: Moo, Moo, Moo
Brother: What does a pig say?
Madison: Oink, Oink, Oink
Me: What does a farmer say?
Madison: Whine, Whine, Whine
Brother was unavailable for comment because he had fallen off his chair laughing.

Good Afternoon Disney Friends!

Today in Disney History:

1928:
Disney's Oswald the Lucky Rabbit short Sky Scrappers is released.

1929:
Walt Disney's trademark application for the image of Mickey Mouse is filed with the United States Patent Office.

1960:
Disney's film The Sign of Zorro, starring Guy Williams, Henry Calvin, Gene Sheldon, and Romney Brent, is released. Don Diego (Guy Williams) returns home to find his town under the heel of a cruel dictator, Capitan Monastario. Diego dons the mask
of Zorro to fight the evil commandant's tyranny, and, with the help of his mute servant Bernardo, free the pueblo from his oppression! The film was created from 8 edited episodes of Disney's hit TV series.

1969:
Disney's family feature Rascal, starring Steve Forrest and Bill Mumy, is released along with the drama Hang Your Hat On The Wind, featuring Rick Natoli. Rascal is based on Sterling North's 1963 bestselling book Rascal. The movie tells the tale of a year in the life of young Sterling North (portrayed by Mumy) and his "ringtailed wonder" pet raccoon, Rascal.

1995:
A small army of Disney and New York City Parks Department workers go to work clearing Central Park's Great Lawn of bottles, snack trays and other trash left behind by the lucky 100,000 who attended the Pocahontas premiere the night before.
"This was the largest movie premiere in history and we're very lucky. No one throws a party like New York City, and no one throws a party like Disney." -New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani

2010:
World of Color officially debuts at Disney California Adventure park. A spectacular display of water and special effects, it features more than 1,000 jets of water which form incredible shapes in time to music allowing Disney characters to come to life on a shimmering veil of mist.

Happy Thursday. Guys, I'm living my dream, or close to it. My goal was to retire and move to Florida (beach, WDW, or in-between), play tennis everyday, and go to Mass everyday. While i can't get the Florida part, I have the other two going.

Congrats to DS. High school next? Or, sports school academy?

My thoughts exactly. Not sure I want to vacation anywhere that needs armed guards.

Afternoon Dudes (said in best Crush voice). Treated myself for lunch today and then saw Tomorrowland. Good, not great movie. A bit long but the young girl in the movie was great. Got home just in time to see Norway tie W.Germany. Wow!

Cool pics CJ.

Uh Oh. As a father of a former 8th Grader, I hope you explained to him the important thing about taking a girl to a dance. "Son, don't do anything to tick off her father!" Hope they have fun.

Glad you are safe. We had a bad one go through last night. Some branches in the neighborhood down.

It is beautiful. Wish I visited there a decade ago when it was less built up, but it was still great.

Man cave in our house

Nice cave. Hawks are having a few issues right now. Saw the end of the last game. Good luck.

Paris has armed guards, just say'n...

And Rome, London, rural areas of Texas...

Happy humid Thursday evening, I missed hump day again. Been busy getting things shipshape while the family is away and trying to keep up with work stuff. Pointless really because before one project is done, another two need doing. I got another small grant award today to work on a project for the next three years. Not enough to just do that, but a nice partial diversion. The overlords like it when we bring in money so they can suck some off the top. This was capped at 10% so just enough to keep the department stocked in toilet paper for a year.
