DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
We finally have another Triple Crown winner. Exciting race.

It was a good race - had the lead start to finish. I'm sure people will complain that it was a small field, but a triple crown is still amazing.

Good Morning Disney Friends!

Today in Disney History:

1916:
Milt Albright is born in Kearney, Missouri. He will begin to work for Disney in 1947 as a junior accountant. In 1953 he will become Disneyland's first official employee.

1940:
Disney's Donald Duck film Mr. Duck Steps Out, directed by Jack King and written by Carl Barks, is released. Donald visits the house of his new love interest for their first date. But their time alone is soon interrupted by Huey, Dewey and Louie who
have followed their uncle and compete with him for the attention of Daisy! Clarence Nash supplies the voices for
Donald as well as Daisy, and Huey, Dewey & Louie.

1946:
BBC-TV in England returns to the airwaves after a near 7-year absence (due to the second World War). In an attempt to emphasize continuity, the first day's program includes the cartoon Mickey's Gala Premier - the same Disney cartoon that
had aired on September 3, 1939 (two days after the Nazi invasion of Poland). Originally released July 1, 1933, the cartoon features several famous Hollywood film actors from the 1930s.

1975:
Walt Disney World's version of Mission to Mars - developed with NASA - debuts in Tomorrowland. It replaces the Flight to the Moon attraction (which opened in December 1971). Guests first enter a viewing area known as Mission Control, which is modeled after a typical mission control center with chairs and control panels for about ten seated Audio-Animatronic "technicians" whose backs are to the audience. Facing the audience is the Audio-Animatronic flight director Mr. Johnson (voiced by radio & TV announcer George Walsh) who shows film clips and explains how man has made numerous advances in
space travel. After the pre-show, guests board their spacecraft - a circular theater with stadium-like seating featuring
circular flat screens on the ceiling and floor. Third Officer Collins (voiced by veteran Pete Renoudet) serves as the
guests' in-flight narrator. (Mission To Mars will close its doors October 4, 1993 and later re-open as the ExtraTERRORestrial Alien Encounter. Today the area is known as Stitch's Great Escape!)

2006:
Disney World announces that the Cinderella Castle apartment will be completely decorated and upholstered as a 'royal bedchamber', which can sleep up to four people. It will become available as a once-in-a-lifetime experience during the Year of a Million Dreams celebration taking place at all eleven Disney theme parks. An overnight stay in the apartment will be a prize randomly awarded to a guest at the Magic Kingdom, or any park at the Walt Disney World Resort.

Morning folks.
Half an hour more and I'm done! Then it's off to Toronto on Monday for a few days of RnR.

Good Morning Disney Friends!

Today in Disney History:

1902:
In Chicago, Elias and Flora Disney baptize their 6-month old son Walter at St. Paul's. The Disneys are loyal members of the congregation - Flora plays the organ and Elias, a carpenter by trade, has helped build the church. St. Paul's Congregational Church (first organized in 1900) is at this time located at 2255 North Keeler Avenue, one block east and one block north of Walt Disney’s birthplace.

1917:
Walt Disney graduates from Benton Grammar School in Kansas City, Missouri. (The Disneys moved to Kansas City after their Marceline farm failed.) Walt graduates this day from seventh grade, and surprises his parents by delivering a patriotic speech to his fellow graduates. (Walt will enroll in Chicago's McKinley High School in the fall of 1917. But he will attend high school for only a year before volunteering as a Red Cross ambulance driver and ultimately being sent to France.)

1951:
Disney's Donald Duck short Test Pilot Donald (also featuring Chip 'n' Dale) is released. Dale dreams of flying and finds a perfect opportunity when Donald's remote control airplane gets stuck in a tree. Directed by Jack Hannah, this is the 100th Donald Duck cartoon short. The voice cast includes Dessie Flynn (Dale), James Macdonald (Chip) and Clarence Nash (Donald).

We visited One Man's Dream last week and actually took in the movie at the end of the attraction this time. Not bad for a 15 minute overview of Walt's life, but it leaves out so much detail. I guess that most people at the parks wouldn't stay for an 8 hour showing.

Indonesia update. The bags finally got to her and she says everything seems to be there. She continues to have a blast despite the primitive nature of the camp. Showers are basically buckets, the cabins are shacks but they do have mosquito netting around the bed and you don't want to even talk about the John. The diving is spectacular and now that she has her camera housing, she can take some U/W pics.
But good wifi?

Morning all. Thunderstorms here this AM. I would normally be glad summer is here, but DW has signed the dds up for lots of activities. So, it's swim, futsal, swim, soccer - time to get those chauffeur skills on.

I'm not sure I could handle an 8 hour showing either, just because there would be so much else I would want to do. I'm sure Disney did lots of focus groups to settle on the 15 minute show.

Do you have them sit in the back and wear a little black hat?

'Morning all...
It's gonn'a be an arduous work week here.
But then again, being busy can help the time pass.

Have fun storming the GTA

So how was the rest of the trip?

We usually stay for the film, but that’s because we generally hit that attraction late in the day when we’re in need of some time off our feet and in an uncrowded air-conditioned theater with fairly comfortable seats. Heck, we’ve been known to sit through the film a couple of times depending on just how loud the dogs are barking.

Enjoy! I had no idea Toronto had a Rock 'n Roller Coaster as well.

Ahhh summer…
When we get to kick back put our feet up and relax.

Well, I’m sure that’s what goes on in at least one alternate universe somewhere anyway.

Morning Randal and the gang, great sports weekend.

It was a good race - had the lead start to finish. I'm sure people will complain that it was a small field, but a triple crown is still amazing.

It really was a good race. I went to the Belmont once when Funny Cide was trying to do it. He took the lead from the start but faded badly. The place was cleared out 2 minutes later.

Try no wif. The cell plan we have allows unlimited text and data including out of the country. Voice is only .20 a minute but we limited those to when she was on the move. Now we just text.

Good Monday Morning all. Bought a 2007 Malibu with 116K miles on it and got the family moved to the "vacation" :headache:home for the summer. Trying to get some plastic laid in the field and pumpkins planted before Norms sends the rain this way. Hate to say it but a shower would really help the sweet potatoes get established. After this rain I don't care what happens with the weather as I can finally get my irrigation set up. It goes without saying but I would much rather be eating a berry cream puff from Kringla Bakeri right now.

So you've got one of those dinosaur plans? That's not bad at all. I wondered how she was sending you pictures and updates. At least they have cell towers there then, I guess.

Good luck. I hate to say it, but I'm about to start doing a rain dance. We need some moisture. Indiana got slammed yesterday/last night north of I-70. We got less than .1". We've missed the past few waves of rain that have come through.

I should. They probably wouldn't notice.

.

We stay for the films as well. Like you said, good AC & rest. I've fallen asleep in the France movie in Epcot a couple times. Speaking of Epcot movies, do the China and Canada films have seating or are they stand and view?

Congrats on the new car. Good planting.

Kringla would be good about now.

Have y'all looked into selling the Vacation Home now that things are a smidgen better market wise or is it just not possible right now?

Shades of 2012.
May that not continue.

Have also gotten some shuteye in the France theater.
Nice seats in that one.

No seats in the circle vision shows. Too bad, they are some of the best for watching, but not as helpful for those that need to get off their feet for a bit.

Not really an option. Other than the prison there isn't much improvement in terms of employment so more supply than demand. They are opening a new burger place so all the other minimum wage workers can spend their paychecks there. :sad2:

At least it gives the family a place to escape to. Rather sad when southern OH is considered a step up.
