DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
Evening guys, I hope you enjoyed World Ocean Day. Ran around a lot today and it doesn't seem like I accomplished much. Dinner tonight is meatloaf, roasted potatoes and asparagus. Unfortunately dinner tonight is just me and the dogs. I do have Women's World Cup to watch. Go USA!

Good Monday Morning all. Bought a 2007 Malibu with 116K miles on it and got the family moved to the "vacation" :headache:home for the summer. Trying to get some plastic laid in the field and pumpkins planted before Norms sends the rain this way. Hate to say it but a shower would really help the sweet potatoes get established. After this rain I don't care what happens with the weather as I can finally get my irrigation set up. It goes without saying but I would much rather be eating a berry cream puff from Kringla Bakeri right now.

Out of all the times I went to the World, I never stopped in Kringla. Have to try it next time. Hope the family enjoys the vacation home.

So you've got one of those dinosaur plans? That's not bad at all. I wondered how she was sending you pictures and updates. At least they have cell towers there then, I guess.

Good luck. I hate to say it, but I'm about to start doing a rain dance. We need some moisture. Indiana got slammed yesterday/last night north of I-70. We got less than .1". We've missed the past few waves of rain that have come through.

Yep, signed up for the plan right when T-Mobile got the OK to sell I-phones. Don't come close to maximizing it but it is coming in handy this month.

Would not be able to be a farmer. You guys work too hard and are at the mercy of nature. I remember the issues a couple of years ago. May you both have a bountiful and profitable planting season. If I ever make it up there, would love to see the farm.

First game today had 6 goals scored in a 3-3 draw and I managed to miss all but the first.

US got a nice bounce in the early goal.

Saw part of the first game, fun to watch and the Swedish women are lookers. At the half 1-1 but the U.S. is being outplayed. Solo made some good saves or they would be down probably one or two. The kid is a big World Cup fan and I texted her letting her know it was starting. She told me her best friend there is from Australia. They might have a small wager on it. 9:30 am over there so they might be underwater.

Evening folks. Had a couple of minutes to spare, so I thought I'd play catch up a bit, and see is the Pirate Princess' bag saga was resolved. Glad to see it's a positive result. Really busy with work, and what spare time I get, trying to use it as family time, therefore most internet time is on the phone, and I my phone and the boards don't usually get along. :rotfl2:

Morning folks.
Half an hour more and I'm done! Then it's off to Toronto on Monday for a few days of RnR.

Hope you didn't get caught up in that transit snafu this morning, what chaos. Oh that city is going to be a MESS come the Pan-Am games, DW is going to be miserable. I'm staying clear of it myself.

Good Morning Disney Friends!

Today in Disney History:

1934:
Donald Duck makes his very first film appearance in The Wise Little Hen, a Silly Symphony short by Walt Disney. Donald's appearance in this cartoon, as created by animator Dick Lundy, is similar to his modern look except his features are more elongated, his body plumper, and his feet bigger. The short features the voices of Clarence Nash as Donald Duck, Pinto Colvig as Peter Pig and Florence Gill as the Wise Little Hen.

1962:
Meet Me at Disneyland (a limited TV series broadcast live on KTTV directly from the Anaheim park) airs the debut episode "Main Street, USA." Hosted by Johnny Jacobs, the program includes musical numbers and performances by the Dapper Dans, The Firehouse Five, and The Disneyland Band. The series is designed to boost park attendance during the summer weeknights.

1978:
Disney's live-action The Cat from Outer Space, starring Ronnie Schell (as army Sergeant Duffy & the voice of Jake the cat) is released. An unidentified flying object makes an emergency landing on Earth and is taken into custody by the United States government. The occupant of the "flying saucer" turns out to be a cat-like alien who can communicate with humans! The film's cast includes Ken Berry, Sandy Duncan, Harry Morgan, McLean Stevenson (making his film debut), Alan Young, and Roddy McDowell.
Also, Rachel, Randall's oldest DD was born today! :bday:

2005:
Robert B. Sherman and his brother Richard M. Sherman are inducted into the Songwriters' Hall of Fame. They have written tunes for such Disney features as The Sword in the Stone, Mary Poppins, The Jungle Book, and The Tigger Movie. Their theme park music includes There's a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow for the Carousel of Progress and It's A Small World for the attraction of the same name.

Good morning!

I wanted to update everyone on the 4, 5, 6 year old baseball drama. I meant to post yesterday, but forgot. We had a game on Saturday. We were actually short a couple of coaches. Including the head coach. So basically, I was running the show. Well, one of the last players to finally show up was dugout mom's son.

I just knew that she was going to throw herself into the middle of everything, especially since we really did need some help and didn't have enough coaches.

Well, she went over to a picnic table along the fence and sat down. :faint:

It was amazing!!!! She didn't come out onto the field to help, and she wasn't even in the dugout yelling at the kids. Another dad came out and helped us coach the kids in the field and he coached first base for us. My Nephew plays on the team too and SiL ended up coming into the dugout to take dugout mom's usual job. It was amazing.

Although, I did snap at her once during the game. I sent a player home on a hard hit ball. They had just fielded it and got it into the IF as he was rounding third, but I sent him anyway. They called time before our player was halfway home which means he had to come back to third. I figured that would be the case, but might as well send him and try to steal a run if we can, right? Anyway, she's outside the fence yelling at him to pick the bats up on his way back to the dugout. I'm trying to tell him to get back on third base. Then she starts questioning me. Well, we settled that one pretty fast with an explanation of the rules for this age group in front of everyone. That shut her up and got me a few pats on the back after the game.

But the team we played Saturday... it was the most ridiculous 4, 5, 6 year old team I've ever seen. While our team has been making steady improvements, they didn't stand a chance. The team we played had a third baseman who could throw the ball across the diamond to first. The throw arched so much I thought it would start raining, but the fact that a kid that age could get the ball that far and on target was pretty impressive. On top of that, I think they had the only first baseman in the league who could stretch and make catches. It was hard for our slower kids to get on base with hits that would be easy singles in most games.

I hope I never see another year like 2012. Record poor crop in 2012, record good crop in 2014. I'd rather just stick to the status quo and be consistently average. I think my life expectancy would be considerably longer.

We ended up getting 1.6" of rain last night. The clouds sidestepped us all weekend and all day Monday, but at around 11PM we finally got slammed with the storm cell that had the high winds and hail (see, farmers are never happy with the weather). Not the ideal way to receive it, but glad to have the moisture. There are some low spots in the field at home that tend to have standing water if we get about .5" of rain and they didn't even have standing water this morning. Just goes to show how badly we needed that one.

Morning all. Extra sore today from tennis last night. With summer's emergence, I am back to playing four times a week and am paying for it. Pass the ibuprofen and bourbon,

Saw part of the first game, fun to watch and the Swedish women are lookers. .

Yeah, because most female soccer players who can run all over the field are in terrible shape. :crazy2:

But yes, some are prettier than others.

I use work time to catch up on my dis dad reading.

Did you check that kid's driver license to see how old he was? :lmao:

Glad to hear the season ended on a better note with the crazy baseball mom.

A very happy BD to your DD.
She shares Donald's birthday, does she also share his temper?

She also shares that 6/9 date with another notable person.
Les Paul would have turned 100 today. Arguable he had the single greatest impact of popular music and recording processes in the 20th century (don't know weather or not he shared Donald's penchant for tantrums though; never heard of such at least).

Well, first off, I'm glad y'all got a bit of rain, but may it not be quite so fierce next time around
(nor take as long to arrive).

As for the Baseball saga, glad that things are looking up.
May that continue as well, but you know how fickle both weather and people can be.

Thank you and no. She has a slow burn temper, paybacks a Beverly!

I did not know that. I agree about his impact on music.

Well, it's official. The alien body snatchers are here. Hug your wife and kids.

Glad you got the rain, even if it wasn't the way you wanted it.

:rotfl2: That line never gets old.

I wish I had it on video, but when Madison was younger we taught her animal sounds. We were at a family gathering (Thanksgiving, maybe?) and my brother, the farmer, was quizzing her.
Bother: What does a cow say?
Madison: Moo, Moo, Moo
Brother: What does a pig say?
Madison: Oink, Oink, Oink
Me: What does a farmer say?
Madison: Whine, Whine, Whine
Brother was unavailable for comment because he had fallen off his chair laughing.

Good Morning Disney Friends!

Shown on four 80-foot high screens, it is the largest opening ever for an animated film. A majority of the tickets were given away in advance in a random lottery to those who responded to newspaper advertisements. Pocahontas will be released to select theaters in the U.S. June 16 and generally released June 23.

Nope, not here. Beautiful sunny day. Maybe it's because you're too far into the future?

So, are you involved at all with the Women's World Cup in Moncton? Or just spectating?

I'm in Toronto for the week. We left Winnipeg the day USA played so no chance to see it.

Dang.

Supposed to rain here today too.

We did a bit of promotion for the Moncton organizers and helped with some events they had over the last couple of years but at this point I am just an invited guest for 2 games on Saturday.

You should be home in time to catch some of the later games.
