Still better than the 7 hours it took me to drive across Kansas.![]()
We did that drive, too. That is a painful one. I also remember Iowa as being 4 hours of corn.
A Crossing Kansas Story
Waaaaay back in 73 (the middle of the oil embargo), my family took a cross-country drive from Miami to Denver to visit my Aunt and see what we could see. The vehicle of choice was a 66 Olds F-85 (not your common car). This ride had a radio in it that had long since stopped working. It simply would not pick up any station anywhere. On the return trip back toward home, we crossed the Colorado Front Range and entered Kansas. With in a mile or two, the radio kicked in (apparently it had always been turned on and just couldnt pick up any signal). Not only did it pick up a station, it picked up one clear across the state in Kansas City. We had music and conversation to listen to the entire day. When we crossed into Missouri that evening the station started to loose signal and was gone in less then ten miles. That radio never worked again after that.
True Story.
Really!
