A Crossing Kansas Story…

Waaaaay back in 73 (the middle of the oil embargo), my family took a cross-country drive from Miami to Denver to visit my Aunt and see what we could see. The vehicle of choice was a 66 Olds F-85 (not your common car). This ride had a radio in it that had long since stopped working. It simply would not pick up any station anywhere. On the return trip back toward home, we crossed the Colorado Front Range and entered Kansas. With in a mile or two, the radio kicked in (apparently it had always been turned on and just couldn’t pick up any signal). Not only did it pick up a station, it picked up one clear across the state in Kansas City. We had music and conversation to listen to the entire day. When we crossed into Missouri that evening the station started to loose signal and was gone in less then ten miles. That radio never worked again after that.

True Story.

Really!

Funny story. I guess there is something that Kansas is good for. (besides Aaron and his efforts of course)

DAD UPDATE:

Talked to my Dad earlier and he sounded in good spirits.

Amazingly, he told me he just finished a couple of laps around the floor. :scared1: He said he it felt great to be able to get out of that bed.

Still has some pain. He said the worst part of the whole thing is all of the "gas pent up inside".

As part of the surgery, they pump him full of "air" to allow for better room to do the procedure.

Now it's time for the gas to come out! :rotfl2:

He says the walking helps! :thumbsup2

I told him to make sure he doesn't asphyxiate any of the nurses!

Great to hear he's doing well Scott. Maybe you should give your dad a scented candle to offer up as an offering to the nurses. :rotfl2:

Yea, that's what they need now, a live flame! :furious:

[KEANU REEVES FACE] Whoa. [/KEANU REEVES FACE] That's amazing. Actually, my parents never packed buckets of cheese balls. :sad1: That was your contribution to our family road trips.
You poor, deprived child. I'm glad I could at least save the next generation. :thumbsup2

Hmm...open flame...propellant...oxygen canisters...remind me to never go to a Canadian hospital. I'm afraid of how they operate.

Weatherman called for "flurries" today. So far, we have about 2 inches of "flurries" on the ground, and it's "flurrying" so hard that I can't even see the road that 30' outside my window.

And he's still going to have a job tomorrow!

Hey look at that, it's snowing here too. I hadn't looked out the window yet today and it was clear this morning when I came in.

I hope that our flurries don't accumulate too much before I get home tonight.

Sounds like that radio in the Olds F-85 had more of an issue with demonic possession than divine intervention. It's odd what can happen with an AM radio signal.

My children and their legacy thank you. :thumbsup2

I bet that weatherman complained about the DOT on his drive home.

I'm DOT certified. Mark what do you do for the DOT?

Andy? What does this mean in English?

Those are two types of seed and when they harvest the crop the total is the yeild.

Didn't know if you were asking seriously or not:confused3

Well considering the last time they called for flurries we got 6" We will just look out the window and watch it snow.

OK, when you guys read "Olds F-85" you all thought about the F-86 Sabre, too, right? I'll bet crossing Kansas would be a lot more fun it. Not sure about the radio in one of these though...

There's no way that guy works for the DOT. That shovel doesn't even look leaned on!

Hate hospitals, full of sick people!:lmao::headache::rotfl:

I truly hate hospitals. In fact, my Dad was so amazed that I lasted as long as I did yesterday. For some reason, I tend to get light headed in them!

Needless to say, I didn't go running back to see my Dad when he was just into recovery. I waited until he was in his room. I didn't need to pass out and give the nurses another patient to deal with!

I think Scott's dad was driving and somebody lit a match.

Maybe I need to buy him one of those "Crown" air fresheners to strap on his belt!

Funny story...before my Dad went into surgery and the nurse asked him if he had any piercings, my Dad in the most serious of voices said "Well, I actually left my cow bells at home" :rotfl2: He's quite a jokester at times. Any of you that have seen the movie "Say it isn't So" with Chris Klein and Heather Graham know all about cow bells. :thumbsup2

Looks like our flurries are starting now. We have some news weather folks saying we'll get about 2 inches, others saying 2-4" and yet others saying 4-6". I guess one of them will be right!

Nope i thought about the F-85, precursor to the very popular Cutlass sedan. I beleive the F-85 had a 330 cubic inch motor, was available in 2 and 4 door and a wagon. Not sure if the F-85 wagon was the vista cruiser or not but there was a neat drag version of it that had two 425 Toronado (sp) FWD
drivetrains in it. Had a model of it when i was a kid.

And Harrison Ford said they should have killed Han off :scared1:

Interesting. I had never heard that before. But Jedi ended on a high note and I don't know if it would have if Han died.
Interesting. They're his characters, so he can do as he pleases, but it sure sounds like a lot of backtracking after a fan uproar...

I liked Han shooting first, but I've never been that worked up over it... :rotfl:

I agree. I just don't like being insulted by "Bullfrog" Lucas thinking he can change stuff after the fact. Just because he doesn't like the way he shot it originally doesn't mean he can change history when he re-re-re-releases movies.

He's probably suffering from Hollywood liberal guilt. Having the hero behave in an unheroic fashion. Truth be told the original is much more in character. A borderline rouge surviving on wit and experience. Such a person would never give a professional the chance to shoot first. What's that saying, the best defense is a good offense.

I can't find it but fed had a rule relating to a similar thing. I am sure someone know where it is or what it was.
