I have a similar question, I booked our cruise 2 months ago for the Fall. But haven't opted into the bus transportation yet. If i do that online, do they somehow connect that when I check in online, and that is how I get my PAT (they know I'm taking the bus)?

Yes, if you book DCL transportation the system will know that when you go to do online check in. You'll get a message stating you don't need to pick a PAT and your boarding group will be automatically assigned. That's if you book DCL transportation before doing online check in.

When you complete online check-in, you will see your PAT and Boarding Group on your arrival form, which you should show online or as a print-out when you board the ship.

I haven’t taken a bus to the port, so I am not sure what, if anything, you need to show when you board the bus.

There is a DCL representative in the lobby. You go and check in with them. They have a list of all registered guests. I think I might have shown my boarding pass to her, but am not sure.

You will get an email explaining Where to meet and how luggage pick up works the day before.

You won't get a PAT, your port arrival form will just say "Transfer" and you'll automatically have a boarding group assigned. These will be on your port arrival form, which will be emailed you to after you complete online check in and is also available under your reservation on the website. You'll get an email 1-2 days before with the meeting time and departure time, as well as location, for your DCL transportation (these can vary slightly depending on which resort and how many people are using DCL transportation). You'll have to show your citizenship document to the DCL rep at check in. They'll take you out to the bus as a group and ask for your photo ID right before you get on the bus.
