Hi Everyone, It's freezing 10 degrees outside and had to visit this site to warm up. My daughter is on my lap as I type. She wants to pick out the smilies at the end of the post. Still wondering how to convince hubby to buy in. We love DW and I can see us taking our children every year while they still want to vacation with us. I'm still plugging at it with him. I might barter a puupy dog for a membership. He wants a dog real bad for the kids and I want a membership for the same reason. What does everyone think? :Pinkbounc :bounce: princess: ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo :wave2: :earseek: :hyper:  :sunny:

Buy into DVC, get a labador retreiver. That's what we did anyway. LOL Named her Disney Dixie -- after our first Wdw Stay, we call her Dixie.

What a coincidence, you guys are from DE, so are we. This has to mean something.

Or a golden ret. and name it (her) PixieDuster..Dusty for short and find a good kennel for the times you get to go "home" since you bartered for that DVC membership. Good luck!

Hi Degli - Just had to say "hi" to another Delaware person and wish you luck on buying into DVC!! Dog and DVC sounds like a good deal to me!!!

Just wanted to announce that I got a Goldren Retriever puppy. He came home Dec. 14th. I named him Mickey!

Hope your membership comes through. If it takes a puppy then thats just bonus.

Our Golden Ret. puppy " Ariel " came home with us three months ago.

Good luck !

Degli,

Men like to make money. Tell yor husband about My BIL. He bought into DVC in 1992, when points cost $49 each. They have gone to WDW at least once a year since then. If they sold today, they could get at least $69/point. So (based on 200 points) they spent $9800, to 13 years worth of trip and if they sold now, they'd get $13800.

If I could get paid $400 to take vacations for 11 years, I'd be in. In fact, I am in!

I don't want to be left out of this thread.
I'm from DE too! :teeth:
DH and I purchased DVC in 1999 and it is the best decision we ever made.
We can now take family and friends with us (something we could never afford prior to our DVC membership). And we have been averaging 2 trips per year!
You may want to reconsider the dog though. You'll feel bad leaving it home when you take your (many) vacations! ;)

If the getting the

doesn't work..........then I guess all that is left is to get a new husband.

P.S. Good luck in whatever you decide.

I think you should buy DVC because of the beautiful smilies that you're daughter picked out.

That is an excellent point and one I am going to use on DH in two weeks time !!::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

Thanks

Okay! I don't feel so silly now. We have a 1 year old Bichon Frise. My DD requested a female dog because she wanted to name her Princess Jasmine. We call her Jazzy.

We purchased our DVC about 3 months after we had gotten the dog.princess:

Dogs an Disney, what a great combo ! Although I not from DE, would like to chime in. Another argument is to figure out how much it would cost to get reservations at a DVC place using "rack rates" - or the rates listed on the Disney website. And then figure out how soon you would have "paid for" your DVC membership.
Yes you may feel bad leaving the pup behind, but they usually get used to it and are always glad to see you again. My 12 yr old Cocker/Lab mix is even glad to see me when I've only been to the bathroom!!

Hope you make the right decision for everyone

Too funny Rsschneck ! We got a Rottie pup 2 years ago and named her the exact same thing-----her nickname is also Jazzy ! We also have 3 cats (Sulley, Simba and Belle !).

I have to admit, we do feel bad but we call the kennel from WDW to see how she's doing and they always say she's having a blast playing with the other dogs. We also send her a postcard from WDW and the kennel staff tape it to her run---it's too funny ! :teeth:

Keep pluggin' at your dh for the DVC Membership ! Much luck !

Not from DE, but DH most CERTAINLY is... in fact, that's why we're in DVC. Prior to joining, we spent our EVERY vacation minute going to Delaware, making our World Tour for Peace amongst his Delawarian family! I love to travel... and while I have nothing personal against your Small Wonder, well, it gets old, folks. I can only do so much tax-free shopping! :)

Now we get to go FUN places... we just take his family WITH us! It has FORCED dh into taking a REAL vacation! I think I knew I had a real DVC-er hubby when, on the day after Thanksgiving, he grabbed the ziplock bag out of the fridge containing the turkey drumsticks to take with us to the Wilmington xmas parade. My inlaws all looked at him like he was NUTS, whipping out those turkey legs while sitting on the curb of the street! Afterthe parade (and devoured legs -- only DH and I and our kids would eat them!), his family said, "You've GOT to be kidding! Turkey legs? Sitting on a street curb? Watching a parade? That CAN'T be any good!" DH explained as he licked his fingers that actually, this was a poor substitute, and they were right, not too good. The "REAL" thing, ala WDW, however, isn't good either -- no, it's GREAT. (I love that man!)

We took BIL and SIL that summer to WDW... parades and turkey legs, yumm yumm. They are coming with us again this summer! Maybe we can get another DE-DVCer yet!

In the world of financial planning you NEVER should consider a time share, INCLUDING DVC, as an investment. It is a prepaid vacation. Because prices are going up today doesn't mean they always will. Timeshares are the least stable part of real estate.

Another thing to remember is that when you buy DVC you sigh away any say you have in managing the operations. You can vote only if dues increases more than 15% per year. That means Disney can pretty well do what they want.

LOOK AT IT AS A PREPAID VACATION.

LOL! Well, since I breed, show and sell dogs, I never think having a pet is a bad idea, but I would never give up DVC either! I say do both! Of course, you can't take the dog to WDW unless you want to visit the WDW kennels everyday, but he/she will be REALLY happy to see you when you get home!:hyper:
