Could DVC Members pay more to heat DVC pools?

I spend half my money on WDW, and waste the rest.

With the response being "just the winter months" will be in line with the Red Cross (meaning the summer months cant conform) and we are "trying to save energy costs", that tells me they just want to save money. Since energy is wasted all over WDW (I doubt they want to save energy) it seems we could at least be informed on what the costs would be to move pool heat up a few degrees in the winter and maybe discuss what impact of dues would be.

Maybe I am way off base, but I know we would pay more dues for this change. I assume anyone who travels only in the summer, or never swims would vote against it. But at the very least it would be nice to know what the cost is.

Also, how do you define "DVC Pools". I would assume all OKW/SSR/BWV pools and only the quiet pools at VWL/BCV (what a shame for SAB). Then the last 2 would need patrol from the NON DVC guests, so maybe they would have to heat them all?

Feedback appreciated.

I believe this issue was resolved in another thread by the clever use of a trash-compacting toilet.

I'm not yet convinced that this is even a problem - all we have is a post or two of hearsay that WDW has lowered the pool temperatures. IIRC, there was one post that said a CM said that the heater at SAB was broken for a few days during the period that some thought the pool to be too cold. Of course that is also "hear say" . :teeth:

FWIW, all of the pools are the BWV are shared with the guests of the BWI - I also believe that all of the pools at the YC/BC/BCV and WL/WLV are shared / common facilities. I don't think DVC can decide to raise the pool temperatures (if it's even a problem to begin with) of these pools without the agreement of the non-DVC resorts that share them.

So that would leave SSR & OKW. How about we raise the pool temperatures just for those resorts and then designate them as official "DVC Pools to Hop to if you can't stand the pool temperature at the other DVC resorts". ;););); We could even add hot chocolate and hot toddies to the pool side refillable mug stations (KIDDING!) Although, on second thought, maybe that would make SSR more desirable to some posters (Kidding again, LOL).

Best wishes -

I prefer a cooler pool. I like the temperature to be refreshing, not warm, even in winter months. I would not want my dues to go up to heat the pools.

Not sure if this applies but I was just in the BWV Luna pool at 10:00 AM. The water coming into the pool was definitely heated.......Later that morning the heat must have been turned off. So I'm assuming that they must kick on the heat for a time then shut it down when things get going.

There is no need to charge more to heat the pools. There are lots of things Disney could do to decrease the use of energy that would more than make up for energy used to heat them. As you look around each resort, it is easy to see many instances of energy being wasted. Better to deal with those than to cut down on pool heating.

I am one of those who experienced a cooler pool than I have ever experienced before at WDW during February. No one told me there was a change in policy but it seems too coincidental that so many guests experienced the same thing.

I do basically agree (how could it have been up until now then right?), the point of the thread is to engage in discussion, get feedback and reactions to this subject (thanks for your response) and at the very least find out how much this really does cost/save on the overall dues.

Better yet, if this saves so much-why dont we get a refund on our dues?

Not so sure you get a refund...just less of an increase. For instance, if gas goes from $2 to $3 per gallon, and you drive 30% less to save gas, you'll still see an increase in gas cost overall, but not as much of an overall increase than if you didn't drive that 30% less.

Another way to look at it, you use 100 gallons of gas per month at $2 per gallon. That is $200. Gas goes to $3 per gallon and you use 30% less, or 70 gallons. 70 gallons at $3 is $210. Your gas bill went up $10 even though you are using 30% less.

B3 I think you'd be a great neighbor but if I see you in the pool I'll stay out! :rotfl2:

My wife and I are often at the pools lounging and sunning but we seldom go into the water. Nevertheless, I would have no issues with higher dues on our OKW points for the added comfort of water heated to a more comfortable warmer temperature.

Exactly-hence the discussion. What was the bill last Feb compared to this, what was the cost per heat unit, what is in the budget, how much of the budget was used, how many more units to increase the temp per degree etc etc. Its not rocket science-I get a heat bill every month with all these details and guess what-if I want the house warmer/colder I increase or lower the thermostat and pay more or less. Its information that could be shared.

I think they should make it optional. Just have little coin-operated heating nozzels scattered around the pool.

Based on our experience, it's a non-issue (sometimes wonder how these things get started). So, no, we wouldn't pay for something we don't think is needed....JMHO :cool1:

You know, I would LOVE to see you somewhere, sometime and have a drink and a few laughs with you...maybe at a bar.

But, if I ever see you in a pool....I'm definitely keeping my distance!!!

Is that an invitiation? Are you single Beca? How about some photos for boat? :thumbsup2

This pool thing has been written to stir the pot. :stir: I like a good stirring but come on with this. I've been to WDW 3 times this winter in 2 different resorts and the pools were the same as always. OKW feature pool was toasty warm. BCV quiet pool was warm. Stormalong Bay was cool but not much different than the others. My wife was in and that says it all. She likes it HOT! :woohoo:

Okay...seriously, I didn't mean that as a "come on"...happily married here!!

I just think "good times" follow you around...just not in the pool. ;)
