Stopping off at Costa Maya, which ruins would you recommend to see Kohunlich vs Chacchoben
..

Also how would you rate these ruins to the Tulum ruins.

Thanks all...

We went to Chacchoben with David & Ivan (The Native Choice). Great tour with a lot of knowledge of the area and Mayan lifestyle. Highly recommended.

Ww were told these ruins were much larger than Tulum. And they have only been open to the public for 3.5 years.

I second the Chacchoben Ruins with David & Ivan (The Native Choice). We went the this past December. It was a great tour.

We took the Kohunlich tour last December. It was a wonderful excursion, deep in the jungle, with a very good Mayan guide. But, it is an all day tour....we were the first ones off the ship and the last ones back on. It is a 2 hour trip, each way, a bit hard on the little ones. I would recommend it for anyone who is interested in the Mayan culture and for kids 8 and up. Maybe for younger ones if they have shown an interest in the subject.

Whatever you decide, don't forget the insect repellent! :)

You cannot climb the ruins at Tulum....don't know about the other two locations.

Would the Chaccoben tour be appropriate for children - say 7-10?

We loved th Chauccoben ruins. we did them last december. we booe dthrough DCL, but have heard great praises for david and ivans tours.
I think 7 to 10 years of age would probably like this tour. It is about anhor ride to and from. going to the ruins our guide gave us a lot of information about mayan history and she brought along several items to pass around for us to see, so the drive went quickly. There is a small gift shop and a few chips and ice cream to buy after your tour. You do need to be able to climb up a few steps that are actually part of a temple which is still burried. Most of what you see is on the other side of this temple. They are large stone steps and a little tricky to navigate. An awesome tour!!!
There are restrooms there, but I would advise taking your own T. eat covers and t-paper with you. I had to use my own hand sanitizer too, no soap and kind of dirty, be prepared for a lady standing in there wanting tips even though it wasnt that clean, no soap, no toilet paper etc... I didnt give a tip!!
Maybe w egot there at a busy time.
As we got back on the bus to return they gave us all a bottle of water. I took my own too, you will need it on the tour, plus take bug spray!!! and sun block You will need this. we got back to the port around 5 and we had to be on the ship by 5:30. So we had a quick a shopping trip around the port.
Our tour left at noon, so you could shop before the tour too.
I highly recommend this tour!!!

My DS9 enjoyed it a lot, as did the rest of the family :thumbsup2

We had originally signed up for Kohunlich but it was cancelled (RCCL). From what I understand, they are better ruins to see, but the 2 hour drive may be an issue for some families, as well as the all day tour.

we did david and ivan's tour. they are very very knowledgeable - but too long for a 5 year old. Too long for her parents too. we weren't that interested in "learning" so much - it was a longer tour than we anticipated. We knew there was a bus trip about an hour each way - but didn't understand that they didn't count the bus ride in telling us how long the tour was. If you have an interest in Mayan culture or want to learn a lot - David and Ivan is the way to go. We liked the little market where the tour began - the lady making tacos - they were wonderful and the Coronas good and cold. And the ice cream - wonderful too. Especially the coconut flavor.
