Conservative Thread: U.S. Steele - Back In Business

Pompous Chuck Schumer said from the senate floor: "And to the "chattering class", Americans don't care about the porky amendments in this bill." I'd like to shove a slab of bacon so far down his throat that it came out the other end.

She's almost 30, but now that I'm 40, I get to call people that age "kids".:rotfl:

I think the off the wall ringing phones lines to both the White House and Senator's office this past week would prove otherwise. Add in the fact the low approval rating for it.

Obviously not.:sad2: Seems that this is turning into What Obama Wants, Obama Gets. No matter who opposes it.

I'm waiting to see what's next on his list.

National Security Force (that's as well funded as our military btw - can't wait to pay that bill)

Or, mandatory community service for school kids (forced by threat of withholding federal money to schools)

I would have said national health care, but it looks as though he's hidden that nugget under the guize of "fiscal salvation"

From Yahoo News (just a few minutes ago):

Q. Obama and other supporters of the plan say we must act now to start to mend the dire economy. Critics argue the $800+ billion proposal will burden the deficit and has uncertain results.

Where do you stand? Do you support the bill?

Yes. It will give us the help we badly need. 23%
Somewhat. It's not perfect but it's something. 12%
No. It's expensive and won't fix anything. 63%
I'm not sure/No opinion 2%

I also noticed here that gas has gone up 20 cents a gallon since Fearless Leader spoke to the masses last night.
Darn it all - I meant to fill the tank this morning but decided to wait until tomorrow. Grrrrr....

I can tell you that this bill has just made me spend less. I won't be buying anything besides necessities from now on.

Did you guys see that some guy was arrested outside of the white house with a gun?
No, but I haven't been watching the news.

As for this whole stimulus package, our family is gazelle right now in trying to pay down loans. We have over $100,000 in student loans alone, plus a car loan, a business loan and our mortgage. We are beans and rice right now and cutting out every luxury, including fast food. We are only spending on what's absolute necessary and I'm finding more and more things that we "thought" were necessary really aren't.

I 100% agree. This may not be a popular thought with everyone on this thread, but the fiscal aspect is at the top of my priority list. The social issues take a big back seat for me. People who want their individual freedoms respected, well that applies across the board then.
I agree.

I see that McCain's buddy, Lieberman, voted yes on the New Steal.
I'm hoping he was strong-armed into voting for it. Considering he betrayed his party over the summer he probably decided it was safe to side with his party.

At least that's what I'm hoping.

I suppose anyone who actually speaks (chats) is rather annoying to the Democrats, just as is anyone who actually thinks.

Their lives would be so much easier if we all would just shut up and be good boys and girls.

And I love how he said "Americans don't care..." as if those of us who DO care are not Americans. Each time a Democrat makes a marginalizing statement (Biden: "it's unpatriotic to want lower taxes", Obama: "Republicans need to stop listening to Rush") they show themselves to be cowards. Real leaders welcome different points of view and can handle debate. These Democrats seem, awfully, awfully afraid.:sad2: :sad2:

I can't remember if we have any Texans in here, looks like I'm probably going to be having surgery on March 25th, but will know for sure on Saturday when I talk to my endo. I want my parents to have some fun down in Houston, I don't need them sitting with me 24/7, it's going to be boring watching me try to do stuff with my nose packed with balloons. So, I figured I'd send them to Galveston for the day, but I see that it's going to be Spring Break during the whole month.

Is it really bad? My parents are 66 and 71, I don't think they'd enjoy having to fight through a bunch of drunk college students. Is there stuff they can do and enjoy down there? It's not really one of those places that we would seek out to go to, but we're going to be down there, so they might as well go. Thanks.

As usual SM, you are absolutely correct on this! :thumbsup2

I don't usually quote the Huffington post but this one was just too good considering they actually reported it:

Administration Officials Met With Laughter At Bailout Briefing

Administration officials were greeted with sarcasm and laughter Monday night when they briefed lawmakers and congressional staff on Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner's new financial-sector bailout project, according to people who were in the room.

The laughter was at its height when Obama officials explained that the White House planned to guarantee a wide swath of toxic assets -- which they referred to as "legacy assets" -- but wouldn't be asking Congress for money. Rep. Brad Sherman (D-CA), a bailout opponent in the fall, asked the officials to give Congress the total dollar figure for which they were on the hook. The officials said that they couldn't provide a number, a response met by chuckling that was bipartisan, but tilted toward the GOP side. By guaranteeing the assets, Geithner hopes he can persuade the private sector to purchase a portion of them.

Congress may be able to do little more than laugh. The Federal Reserve, in extreme situations, is allowed to intervene in the financial markets in dramatic ways. The Fed jumped into the markets long before the $700 billion bailout passed through Congress by guaranteeing toxic assets held by CitiGroup and Bank of America.

The White House still has roughly $350 billion in Congress-appropriated TARP funds to use, and the officials told the group Monday night that it planned to use $50 billion for foreclosure mitigation and further amounts to shore up bank balance sheets.

The officials also said that a review of the bank's books would be undertaken to determine whether they could handle an even more severe economic downturn.

People briefed on the meeting also said that the White House proposed expanding the Temporary Asset Lending Facility (TALF) by up to one trillion dollars in order to shore up the market for credit card and auto loans. It would be a joint project of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and the Treasury's TARP funds.

Oh yeah, it's just going so slllllooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwlllllllllyyyyyyyyyyy... ugh. It's like watching paint dry.

I'm debating, I really want to get a second set of holes punched in my ears. It's exactly 6 weeks before surgery, which I think is when you can officially take the earrings out. I know they're going to stick my head in the MRI scanner during surgery so I can't have any metal on my head. But I really want second holes.... what to do??????? Ugh.

I didn't know there were so many communists on the dis. I am surprised at the number of folks that want the government to be in total control.

I'm also surprised at the number of "educated" people that know Obama's plans are bad...but don't care. "At least, he's doing something." Huh???

Another member of the chattering class here...just wondering why the Black Panthers (ACORN) needed $4.1 billion dollars in this stimulus package:confused3

good thing the got to him before he got to anybody else. even the gardeners would be fair game to a whacko.

Speaking of gardener, I read something today which referred to the cult- like adoration of Being There's Chauncey Gardener as an analogy to another cult worship.
