*Confirmed* G+ Changes to Advanced Lightning Lane

I generally find "they are no longer treating everyone the same" arguments to instead be a version of: "I am no longer being treated as well as that person over there, and I don't like it. However, I've always been treated better than those other people over there, and that never bothered me."

I kind of agree with you here. Deluxe guests pay way more, but they also get much nicer accommodations and resorts to enjoy for that price.

While I do wish to get better park perks when staying deluxe, it's not the reason I book there. I'm mostly paying more to get a deluxe room and resort amenities.

That said - I already get a pretty big parks perk by staying at Grand Floridian: proximity to MK and fireworks viewing. Can't get that at a Value. So, I'm happy with the decision.
Much nicer is relative. Outside of the Disney bubble, a deluxe resort is more like an overpriced moderate. Would you pay over $700/night for a hotel room anywhere else where the hotel does not even offer 24 hour room service? The values are basically a Motel 6 with large icons and I doubt anyone here would pay 200+ for that level of room.

we all hear what we want to hear.

yes, but by buying the perk (which used to be free (paper) then you have unequal status over those who didn't. So you buy the perk.. There were a lot of things that USED to be free for everyone that are no longer, and that has caused a lot of complaints from folks.

It used to be anyone with a ticket could go to the turnstiles and get a paper fp as long as they were available still for that ride ... then it got more exclusive if I remember correctly... electronic fastpasses that were restricted to onsite guests? or onsite had first access for a certain window? LOL changed do many times, but I also think I remember where if you had a certain tier of resort status, then you got extra FP pre-booking slots... then covid and no FP of any kind,.. and now anyone can get free Genie suggestions or you can pay to play for Genie+/ILL. I happen to like this current system the best because it works for me and I can budget the costs... do I like paying, no..,. do I like not waiting? yes, so it is worth it for me.

There are so many guests... onsite and offsite, that sadly I think offering a free ride service is not financially solvent, not that I desire to have exclusivity. I just want to ride my favorite rides with the least hassle.
Agree and disagree haha. Genie+ itself is not that cost prohibiting as say the Universal pass. Everyone that wants it can reasonably afford it, you just have to be willing. If that willingness is budgeting from other parts of the trip then that is a choice ppl have to make. A $200 per person service would not be reasonably affordable, and is basically a guideless VIP tour by that point. There are options for those that want that type of service.

But neither are exclusive per the amount of money you spend on a room.

My point is that everyone and their grandma can access Genie+, as it should be. It's the customer's choice to either buy the perk, or not buy it. Just as it's the customers choice to rent a Deluxe room for the perks of staying in a fancy hotel vs renting a value room or an offsite one.

Would I prefer it to be free? Of course I do, but as you say there is zero chance for it to become free again for lots of reasons.

I think I’m in the minority (at least on these boards 😂), but I like Genie+ and hope it doesn’t change significantly. Add tweaks to improve function, sure, but don’t completely rework it. It’s worked beautifully for my group on our last couple trips - we’ve been able to ride everything we want, wait in minimal lines, which gives us the time to enjoy all the other attractions and theming in the parks.
Agreed - never had any major issues. Have always been able to get in everything we want, even during crowded holiday times. Never felt like I was on my phone a ton either - I just set an alarm / remember to grab another when using up the most recently booked one.

Have had success with 4 of us as well as a really large group trip.

I would be disappointed if it became like Universal's. Although the ease of use of it is nice, it is prohibitively expensive to offsite guests. I think if WDW tried to copy that it would require a very tiered system as really Universal only has three (?) resorts getting that included.

I am also one that likes the current WDW Genie+/ILL/Virtual Que system. I think it is reasonable in price, and I have been able to ride what I want. I like the option of using it in different ways/combinations at different parks.

I would love if it became like Universal's but without giving it free to anyone. IMO it should be limited. It makes standby better as less people will be in LL queues. Standby queues will be constantly moving.

When Genie+ first came out it was said it works best when only 25% of guests per day have it.

this last time (10/27-11/2) it worked really good for us... whether that was my learning curve (third time's a charm?) or sheer luck... I had the most ease booking rides, even late when I used it. Maybe lower demand, but virtual ques worked well when I used them. I was able to cancel and modify on the fly to shift things to later. We were able to ride everything we wanted

My issue with Genie+ and it goes back to FP+ is return times. I hate having to plan when I can ride something. I want simple like Universal's

Imagine if Disney offered a free for deluxe perk like Universal, they would be able to fill their already overpriced resorts without raising prices a single cent. They could then raise the price drastically for non deluxe.

I'd be interested to know Universal's statistics on percentage of guests who use Express Pass. It's currently averages $150 / day per person, I believe. Higher certain times of year.
It's been a long time since we went to Universal but we just booked a night at the HRH and the pass was included. Worked out to be cheaper to pay for the room than to buy the pass individually. I like the idea of it being included or at the very least discounted for onsite guests.

One big difference between Universal and Disney:

Universal has about 2,400 "Deluxe" hotel rooms. Disney has almost 9,800 across the Deluxe and DVC resorts. Universal has two theme parks, and Disney has four, but even so, there are almost twice as many "eligible" rooms "per theme park" at WDW than at Universal.

Now throw in the fact that it is significantly more expensive for most people to buy the Express passes at Universal than it is to buy LL/G+.

There is no good way for Disney to get to where Universal is without putting a lot of current LL/G+ users on the outside looking in---and the only way to do that is through price.

I will bet money that next to no DISers would think that would be a good idea. The ones who do think it is a good idea will be the few who do not mind spending approximately an extra $100 per person per day than they are spending now.

I believe Genie+ works and works well for those who know how to use it well. Practice makes perfect. But many of us don't go enough to get that practice.
Well said! That's why I thought the best thing they could do is stop changing/tweaking it for a few years - warts and all! At least we'd get familiar with it.

Fastpass+ was the same way. It gave an advantage to those that knew how to use it and those that didn't were left out. Only difference is that one is free and the other is a paid service.

But, you could do the research at home before you went and knew which rides you had locked in already. I can research all I can about Genie+ at home, and I am, but I still won't know which rides I will get or not until I am in the parks.

What if you didn't get your preferred rides at the 60 day mark (onsite) or the 30 day mark (offsite)? I stayed offsite for the majority of the Fastpass+ era and was never able to get FOP or Slinky. I didn't get to ride Slinky until last year using Genie+ as I refused to wait in a 2+ hour line without any shade.

Well, I always got them. Stayed onsite and always traveled during slower times.

With Genie+, offsite guest and onsite guest can both book LL at 7 am. I don't like that.
