Are there people or a community that rents DVC points in Canadian $?
Exchange fees suck.

Get yourself a Rogers World Elite Mastercard (free) and pay with that. They will charge you the exchange fee, but you will get 3% cash back - therefore a net gain of .5% on the purchase. Plus they have a promotion on right now where you will get $25 back with your first purchase.

ETA - they also use an exchange rate that is very close to the current bank rate on the day you make the purchase. You can see the rate they use here - https://www.mastercard.us/en-us/personal/get-support/convert-currency.html

This is, of course, assuming you are renting from someone like Dave's or another vendor that accepts credit cards.

HSBC world elite Mastercard or Scotiabank passport visa infinite both only charge the current exchange rate and no 2.5% additional charge. I believe there is another too but can’t remember offhand

Usually owners prefer USD as we have to pay member dues in USD, so you’re asking the owner to take the exchange hit here. Probably won’t happen in such a hot market.

from someone who does rent on the boards here, and from Canada,,,,I only take payment in US$,,,,I use it to pay my dues and they are in US$ so I am not doing exchanges.

I honestly don't think you will find anywhere that will rent in CDN dollars. Due to the Pandemic, we had some points that we knew we would not be able to use (even after banking them into the next use year) so we rented them out through a reputable website that pretty much everyone knows about. Eventhough they are located in Ontario, all transactions are in USD.

That's what I was wondering- if all DVC members pay in USD, even the Canadians.

You may be able to find an owner that’s willing to rent to you and take CAD. Would be a private transaction though. I don’t know of websites that allow CAD.

I don’t know of anyone who does this. Most of us have had to open accounts with RBC or TD at one of their US branches - a Canada based USD act will not work - just to collect PayPal funds in USD. Good luck.

I have rented my points in CDN before but it was at the posted exchange rate, so no real advantage at the end of the day.

As a Canadian DVC owner I would rent to another Canadian in Canadian dollars, easy. Email transfer instead of PayPal. Way better.
