I'm determined to finally make it to Disney with my family some time within the next school year, just for a short first trip. I told my DH we maybe could go for 4 nights over Memorial Day next year (Thurs May 21 - Mon May 25) with 3 park days because he could do Star Wars Weekend and our girls, who will be in kindergarten and 1st grade, would only miss 2 days of school - the Thursday and Friday before Memorial Day.
I really would prefer they miss no school, so I thought about any other time we could go. And I know it sounds insane, but a part of me would like to go over the Christmas holiday. We've never done anything really special around Christmas, other than drive over several days visiting family, so I thought it would be really fun to see the decorations over Christmas. If we did this though, it would just be for 3 nights (Sat Dec 20 - Tues Dec 23) with two park days. Neither of these trips will be a 'once in a lifetime' trip, and honestly, if we have the money, I may still consider going for short trips both in December and May. And I would plan to go for a week long trip during a future summer. If we went before Christmas, I wouldn't have any high expectations for rides, probably would go as early as possible for rope drop or EMH, ride until about 11:00 or so, have a TS lunch, schedule our FPs for early afternoon when I figure it would be the busiest, then go back to the resort late afternoon/early evening, and possibly come back to the parks later in the evening, if we felt like it. I think we could handle early mornings and late nights for just 2 days, I wouldn't want to do that for a week.
So is it completely crazy to even attempt this time before Christmas, even for just a few days with my plan? Should I just stick with Memorial Day? Or try to do both?
I really want to just try a couple of days at Disney before trying a week long trip, because when I was planning a week long trip as a first timer it was just way too stressful and too much to plan. I think I could handle planning just 2 or 3 park days to get a taste of Disney before doing a longer trip.
