So are they using UPS, FedEx, or USPS? I get they are making their containers that depend upon dry ice. But how is it getting from them to the store/doctor that will administer it?

That I don't know, the article didn't say. But the podcast from WSJ that I listened to on this said that they would be shipping with U.S Marshalls in some cases, sending dummy shipments...etc. I will tell you that my DH and I ordered a regular small freezer for our basement, back in late March. We found one that we could get in our narrow side door to our basement (pre-war house).....and we never got the freezer. Apparently it got 'lost' along the way.....aka.....stolen.

Uh, yes? Or print more money like they've been doing for all sorts of other garbage. Whatever. Just do what you must to open the economy back up.

I think a lot of people really aren't grasping how ugly this is all going to get really soon. This is the time to pull out all the stops.

If the pandemic has taught me anything, it's that we're a selfish nation. While it would make sense for the greater good to pony up the money to do the right thing, I think, too many would be against it if they're asked to pay for it out of their own pockets.

It isn't just about the here and now. Kids are falling behind in school and some will never catch up. And then there's the mental health aspect. Some things can't be measured in dollars and cents.

I've had terrible luck with USPS lately for shipment.

Easy to say if you're sitting at home getting a full paycheck and benefits like before.

Please don't talk to me about being selfish.

I hear you...it sucks. My business won't fully return to pre-pandemic levels until people around here commute and travel as they did before this whole mess has started.

If it’s taught me anything, it’s that we still have a better ability by far than anyplace else on earth at helping the world get through major crises. We took a 4-5 year time frame for a vaccine down to 8 months.

I disagree. I think most are quite generous with their time and/or money.

I mean, yes, you're right. But this has *always* been the problem with not having a national plan. With politicizing a pandemic so that wearing masks is seen as a sign of weakness...etc. If we had just dealt with the pandemic, really faced it....things would not be as bad as they are here. They'd still be pretty bad....but not this bad. You can't tackle the economy, mental health, schools, restaurants, hotels...on and on.....without dealing the public health crisis.

Today, another record. 144K cases. And hospitalizations are absolutely skyrocketing. Yesterday 61 K, today 65 K. A huge, huge mess.

I think that the plan as originally envisioned was to use common carriers, but that may change. If the typical shipment is the size of a carryon, then the simplest thing to do is put it in a courier's hand. I'm not sure that they will move truckloads to anywhere but major distribution points where the freezers are.

As to excess freezers if capacity is increased for this event; probably the simplest thing with the best utility is to gift them to research facilities afterward. The usual price of one of these is upward of $15K, so a gift of several of them could free up a nice piece of funding at the average university laboratory.

Some people don't have a business at all to go back to forget 'fully return' they ceased to exist already. Some people have lost their jobs and are fighting with the millions of other people to get some income coming in. I know you didn't mean it this way at all but sucks it not the word I would use to describe the plights of others here. Sucks is what it was went it was a 2 week shut down of restaurants, sucks was when an event got cancelled but you thought it was just a blip in time, sucks was when schools were closed for just a bit of time around spring break, sucks was when you were told to not see family members and stay 6 feet apart from your loved ones at all times if they were not in your household, etc. We've been beyond "I hear you it sucks" for months now.

But again I don't think you mean anything by it :flower3: but I did want to touch on it.

My income was completely wiped out...from March, until the middle of May. I'm only at 40% of where I was before this mess. Are we starving in my house? No. My DH has always telecommuted, and has been fortunate enough to keep his job without a pay cut. We're fortunate. I've said that many times, in many threads.

But...we're also not like many of my friends/acquaintances who have said things like, "the pandemic is a blessing"....because they're getting to spend so much time with their kids around the dinner table. Or....that they think they'll stick with homeschooling in "home pods" after this is over. I'm literally one of the few people I know in my area of NJ who has experienced a financial loss....at all. Seriously.

But, I'm really plugged in to the news with respect to how people are suffering. I don't think I needed the lecture, but whatever. It really, really, really....sucks.

I'm glad you were able to get at least some portion back, that is good news :) and it only took 2 1/2 months. That's at least some sort of relief I'm sure to get get back up a bit.

The intention wasn't a lecture on my part. It did come off tone deaf, though I don't think you meant it, when you responded to other poster on how it sucks when her response was about not being talked to about people being selfish. The things she was talking about are of a greater magnitude than the other poster's impression of what selfish people have been in this pandemic and what constitutes as sucking.

We appear to be talking past each other, all I was trying to do was say it's far greater than it sucks at this point. You may have only been talking about yourself and not about the millions of other people who are in a completely different position than a good amount of us here on this forum but I believe the poster was discussing more deeply than just herself.

We had 50,000 hospitalizations on Election Day... so 8 days ago. Today, we’re over 65,000. That’s just brutal Other countries have put sensible lockdowns in place. Not as strict as the spring, and compensating businesses forced to temporarily close. If we shut the entire country down today... like we essentially did in March, we‘d be in for an awful month. But it seems like we’re determined to march Into the buzzsaw of this pandemic.

Yep.

No one wants to miss Thanksgiving or Christmas or shopping for either. Let's hope we all don't get COVID from Santa this year.

Maybe you should take a break from this forum? My friend this isn't about being realistic as I can understand about other comments people have made recently, it's about being negative for the sake of negativity :(

Now we're talking about hospitalizations stats, getting COVID from Santa and spilling into a discussion about economics and hardships not related to vaccine distribution. I include myself in this maybe we should get back to the discussion about vaccines :) :flower3:

I know, it's a tough time. And the coming weeks will be terrible with respect to covid. Even under the most upbeat timelines, most of us have another six months of this.

I saw a piece in the Times where Azar said that the U.S is still determining who the order of the most vulnerable, and when they will get it. But, he said will have enough vaccine to give to all healthcare workers and nursing home patients and first responders by the end of January. He also said that there would be enough vaccine for all Americans by the end of March...early April. Of course, this is not just going to be Pfizer vaccine, but others as they come on line. And of course again....this is assuming there aren't any major bumps in the road with respect to vaccine roll out.
