CDC Notifies States, Large Cities To Prepare For Vaccine Distribution As Soon As Late October

Your use of quotes around the word terrified once again tries to diminish people's concern about taking a rushed out vaccine.
What is your issue with people deciding not to get it? Why do you constantly have to try to make them feel like their decision is wrong because you feel differently about getting the vaccine?
You've been called out on this thread countless times and you continue. What is in it for you, are you a major stock holder in these companies or are you just one of those people who thinks they are always right about everything and feel the need to try to shame and guilt people into making the same decisions are you?

Scientists anticipate that the shots will cause enervating flu-like side effects — including sore arms, muscle aches and fever — that could last days and temporarily sideline some people from work or school.

I got the oxford vaccine on election day as part of the stage three trial. Just about 12 hours after the injection, my shoulder got really sore. About three hours after that, I spike a fever. It resolved about 12 hours later. As a result, I needed a negative covid test result before I could go back to work. They'd swabbed me before the injection, so that swab was sent for testing. This vaccine has been shown to be more effective with a second injection 30 days later, so I'll be getting that in another two weeks. I'm fully expecting to have a similar reaction to the second injection.

The one good part of having that reaction is that I'm fairly certain I got the actual vaccine rather than the placebo.

I’m not going to bother with most of that, but I’ll just cover what’s in it for me:

What’s in it for me is desperately wanting the world to recover from the worst pandemic it’s seen in 100 years. See people get their jobs back. See people happy again. See people able to see friends and relatives they haven’t seen in a year. See mental health crises alleviated.

And most importantly, I want to see people stop dying from a disease that we can now prevent with a vaccine that has demonstrated no major side effects.

You’re either with getting rid of Covid or you’re with keeping it around to kill for a few more years. If you don’t get vaccinated or don’t get your kids vaccinated or worse if you convince anyone here not to get vaccinated then you’re essentially working to keep Covid in our lives for longer than needed.

Important aspect mentioned during interview with Scott Gottlieb on CNBC Squawk box this morning was the likelihood that the vaccines can prevent disease in the person receive vaccines as well reduce spread to non vaccinated people due to reduction in shedding virus overall. Studies continue so we will see but stay tuned.

that part is massive. Thankfully, we don’t need everyone to get vaccinated to end this. But my God- we definitely need enough!

Is that “news”? Isn’t that the entire point of all vaccines for communicable diseases? :confused3

The Moderna news is excellent. Actually better, in my mind, than the Pfizer news in that the Moderna is much easier to transport and store, so will be easier to distribute along normal channels.

The one thing I’d still love to know with these studies is, how are the people that are participating in it behaving once they’ve received the injection? Are they still in full on quarantine, are they going out only briefly with masks on, or are they all going out with no mask as often as possible? Because the results would be quite skewed if a large majority of the 15k that received the actual vaccine were still in a lockdown situation. I wish we knew more on this.

I can definitely speak on that. When we were first interviewed for the Moderna trial, they made it very clear that while they could not force us to go out and do stuff, it was very, very helpful if we did. They asked us a number of questions regarding our potential exposure. My wife and I have a daughter in every day in person school and I go to the gym. So we were in. If we had told them that we were sitting in the basement all day, they would have rejected us from the study.

@Jonfw2 are you able to tell us what parameters you were given in this regard as part of the trial?

Thanks - I was too slow getting the question posted.
ETA: was there any discussion of making it a “challenge-trial” and if so, would you have participated?

I was told to not be first in line because of underlying issues but that's just me, people should talk to their Dr when deciding my family will probably be first on line as soon as it's out.

Thing is, when people are doing a comparative analysis they seem to be comparing the best case scenario versus the vaccine not the real life scenario that got us all here and justified the investments in vaccines. Lots of people have died, many more will die and there is untold permanent damage that can come from illness.

This is the most common comparison I see floated: Option 1) without it I'm fine vs Option 2) with it I feel achy

the comparison should be: Option 1) without it I can get really sick & die or kill people I love vs Option 2) with it I feel achy

These are two very different lines of reasoning.

Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

Yes, that's not news, it's literally the point of all vaccines. The more people who get it, the more the entire community is protected.

But this is very good news. We have 2 vaccines that may be deployed by the end of this year. Enough for roughly 30 million Americans. There's about 20 million healthcare workers who should get it first. Then the most vulnerable among us, etc. It seems like most of us will have access starting around April. I'm sure there will be a lot of bumps in the road as we go along here though. These companies have done what appears to be an amazing job in producing very effective vaccines, but the distribution will involve the government.

Great question. There was no discussion amongst the leading vaccine candidates but there were some people (30,000) I think who signed a pledge saying they would do it if asked. Would I have done it? Yes- I would have.
