Cats & Bats & Healthy Chats - October 2024 W.I.S.H. Thread

Sending hugs and hope @Summer2018

Yesterday was fairly low key during the day church, football, the usual. Made some Greek yogurt brownies that tasted quite yummy but had a weird consistency. Took the kids to see the Jack-o-lanterns at the zoo last night which made for a nice night. We managed to get there early and get in and out before the parking and rain got crazy.

Motivation this week is the bloodwork I am getting done either this Friday or early next week. Like to get it done before Halloween/Thanksgiving/Christmas for obvious reasons! Blocked off gym time on my work calendar because I can tell the stress will lead to candy and rather than feel guilty about the candy I would rather eat it when I “need” it and counter it with some treadmill time.
That is such a great idea to block off time on your calendar for the gym!

Hello friends. September was the worst first month of school in my life.

In a matter of weeks, while grieving my brother and friend, I dealt with outrageously violent student behaviors, was verbally abused along with every teacher in the district by our superintendent’s new incompetent hires, marched in a protest with my union against the superintendent, went into lockdown and missed two days of school because of active shooters and continued threats, was observed by my principal’s supervisor twice, was named Kindergarten Exemplary Teacher and told that I would be the model to follow (I want none of it. I just want to teach and be left alone), had marriage issues, and suffered with a stress headache that would not go away.

In October, DH and I went to Cape Cod for five days to celebrate my birthday and work on our relationship. It took three days of vacation taking medicine 24/7 for the headache to go away. It was a wonderful trip. DH has begun therapy. I’m back at work, but happily home for Columbus Day.

My weight is higher than ever. I need to manage my stress better and get healthy again.

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes💕💕💕. Today I will try to catch up.
It is so good to hear from you but so sorry for the reasons you weren't here for a bit. Hopefully things will settle and get better.

Last week I got a sandwich and cup of soup to-go from a local bakery and it cost $24... I felt like an old person thinking "back in the good ol' days that would have been $10 tops" but it is true, things are so expensive now.

And I waste so much money on food in particular. I've really been thinking about the path forward with better life management and considering working with an ADHD Nutrition Coach. It is expensive but would probably pay for itself if I can improve the entire food chain, starting with reducing impulse buying and then actually cooking/eating what I do buy.

Going back to the weekend, I do do pumpkins but don't carve them. I do fancy ones that stay out thru Thanksgiving. Not as many this year, since I didn't make it up to the fancy pumpkin patch, just a few by the backdoor and some sitting in a tree, because who doesn't love a pumpkin tree? Sunday, I got going on household chores as soon as I got up, including making some pumpkin zucchini bread. Was feeling pretty proud of myself then didn't accomplish much of anything the rest of the day.

Woohoo... I am still loving my fancy London haircut. Usually at three weeks I'm starting to feel like I need a trim, but this cut is still holding its shape and so easy to style.

Woohoo... we go see Practical Magic tonight. I've really been looking forward to this, it is also a bring your crafts thing, but I want to soak up everything on the big screen. It was filmed in this area: the town in the film is the town the ferry from my town goes to and the house was built up in the San Juan Islands. I'm hoping they will film here again, but no word on the locations yet.

I am woohooing that I have still been drinking more water. I even skipped on the pop when I went to Chipotle yesterday. This is such a big deal.

I cut way down on the amount of diet coke I drank when I started getting water with meals. I'm a big drinker with meals, so I thought it was a good place to start. Now, it seems weird when I do have a soda with meals.

So glad you're loving your new haircut! I've been thinking of changing my cut up a bit, but haven't decided for sure.

I'm from the St Louis area, so not many things are filmed around here. That would be so neat to have local scenes in a movie!!

In Cape Cod, we spent a lot. Being off-season, the resort stay was less expensive, and there were lots of sales in the gift shops. But the restaurants were very expensive. Since I had my headache during most of the trip, I wasn’t ordering cocktails or wine like I usually would. That definitely saved us some money.

I really have to cut back on spending overall. I’m working on it.

I also have started working on eating more healthy as I try to regain control over my life. I know I can do it. I just need to be consistent.

I try to save by doing online food shopping (Shaws/bjs curbside and aldis on Instacart) which minimizes impulse buys. Keeps me on track and less likely to forget items and have to make extra trips as I open my cabinets and add to cart as I stroll the kitchen.

W oowhoo I didn’t eat breakfast right away today and was able to get my bloodwork done. My annual is in January and I make a conscious effort to get it done either before Halloween or the second week of November so I don’t have any false readings based solely on holiday indulgence. The woman at the office health clinic is so good, she barely looked at my arm and asked “butterfly needle?” So woowhoo she didn’t try to stick me with the adult needle when it doesn’t end well generally.

Eating healthy always makes me feel more in control of everything. I've been slacking lately, mostly on lunches, and I can tell. I always feel like I need a nap after work and I think it's because I'm just eating junk for lunch.

I agree about the online grocery shopping. We just have Walmart grocery pickup, but I think it saves time and money!
