Cats & Bats & Healthy Chats - October 2024 W.I.S.H. Thread

I am thankful for the movie last night. It was upstairs in the fancy room, which is always a treat, and it was filled with people who also knew the film by heart and could the recite lines.

And I am also thankful for the fall colors. It seems particularly intense this year and I love it. And heck, I'm thankful for fall, my favorite season.

On the way to get my coffee this morning I passed two very handsome bucks, all antlered up and full of themselves. It is rutting season, so you have to be extra careful around the deer because they've got other things on their minds.

A while ago I crocheted quite a few granny squares but didn't love the way the colors were working so set them aside. Then I saw an Afghan that had red around the squares and thought that would be great to have out for Christmas. The red yarn I ordered came yesterday, and I got borders done around 25 of the squares and really like it. This weekend is supposed to be wet and windy, so I'll be spending a lot of time inside crocheting... and doing household stuff.

Today I had to give a presentation at work. I hate doing this. Pubic speaking scares the death out of me. After I was done the head of the department I was speaking to told everyone that I am afraid of public speaking (it is well known as I talk about it often) and how it was a big deal for me to be on the stage and using a microphone. She told the group how good I did and that I didn't even use my notes (they were in my hand but I never looked at them or switched the page). It was so nice to be complained and to hear how good I am doing in this part of my job. I still hate it and will always try to get out of it if I can but I am growing and getting better.

This weekend, we have a few things going on. Tonight I will go to the football game. One 2 left for DD. I think it is starting to set in. Tomorrow we are going to an Oktoberfest event with some friends and Sunday will be grocery shopping and watching football.

@Oneanne - the afghan sounds so pretty! I love afghans in the wintertime!

@piglet1979 - great job on your presentation! I also hate public speaking, but sounds like you're really conquering it!

Tomorrow I'm going car shopping with DD1. Her boyfriend totaled her car a few months ago. She hasn't been in any hurry to get something new because she works from home and otherwise was pretty much with her boyfriend. Well, she got a new job and will be going into an office so the need for a car just skyrocketed! She has a few picked out that we are going to go look at tomorrow and hopefully she'll be able to get something tomorrow or shortly after. Her new jobs starts a week from Monday, so has a little breathing room, but not much. Worst case, she could uber to work, but that would end up getting expensive if it went on for awhile.

I'm also substituting for in a Sunday School class on Sunday. I'm kind of nervous. I haven't done that since my kids were little. I'm sure it will be fine, but I'm not able to get the materials until Sunday morning. I guess I won't be paying much attention to the sermon lol!

Judging by the picture, it fits me. But I didn't recognize most of the horror movies, so my picks were random on several questions. 😆🎃

I didn't know a lot of the movies either - horror is definitely not my genre of movie! I did pick some things like Ghostbusters though lol

DD1 did end up getting a car today! It was quite the process though. Her car was totaled back in July, so she let her insurance lapse since she didn't have a car and wasn't driving anyone else's car. That ended up being a problem though because you have to have insurance to drive off the lot. After a lot of calls, she was finally able to get something stating that she had insurance as of today, so she ended up being able to take it today and not have to worry about going back there on Monday after her boyfriend gets off work.

All in all, a fun day spent with my daughter!

Hello Everyone!!!

This week absolutely FLEW by for me I can’t believe I missed checking in with my friends all week!!

I am all caught up and seems like everyone had pretty good weeks! @Oneanne I LOVE your pumpkin tree!!

I was so so busy at work this week I had so many things go wrong, my brain was fried by the end of the day!

For the topic of money I get Walmart delivery and Sams club delivery 95% of the time. Yes I pay for Walmart plus (Sams delivery is free with a plus membership) and it’s $90 a year and yes I have to tip my drivers but I am saving money but not impulse buying. I went into Sam’s today after church to get 2 bags of frozen chicken and DH and I walked out with $281 in our cart 🫠. Now I did just go ahead and buy my entire order that I was going to get delivered since I was there but DH and I also bought like $80 in winter clothes…which we needed but still we would never have bought those in our delivery LOL.

For Saturday’s quiz I got:

I actually have a Halloween costume this year for the Wine and Dine 5K DD and I are being Jack and Sally!!

Weekend was good, it went so fast. Our weather was gorgeous! We spent lots of time with family and outside. Had church today and I did cleaning and laundry for the rest of the day. Oh and watched football!!!

GO BIRDS!!! 🦅 Great day to be an Eagles fan!!!!!

@PAsFab5 - I hope things calm down at work for you! The super busy time at work for me is coming up and I'm kind of dreading it. In one way, it's my favorite part of my job - I'm the controller at my company and it's our year end and then the audit to follow. I kind of consider it my report card for the year and I really enjoy the job of tying everything up at the end of the year. I dislike that it's during Christmas though. Our year end is Nov 30, so December to finish our yearly financials and then the audit begins the first working day of January, so busy, busy, busy! But I do love the work!

My Sunday ended up being so enjoyable - DD1 (that I went car shopping with yesterday) came home for lunch and ended up just leaving a few minutes ago! Such a fun day visiting with her again!

The Sunday School class that I was subbing in only had one student today and he had to leave early because his mom was catching a flight somewhere for work. So, all of my worry was for nothing!

I got comedy. I guessed on most of it because I do not watch scary movies at all. I had nightmares from Ghostbusters as a kid and have stayed away since. I will watch Hocus Pocus and if my husband wants I will watch Beetlejuice but that is really it. I have seen scream and most of the Ghostbusters but I have to watch them earlier in the day so I have several hours of doing other stuff. I even got nightmares from Legends of the Falls as a teenager and that wasn't even that scary, though it is rated R and I was not 17 when I saw it in the theater. My sister took my friend and I and got us in.

I had a great weekend. Some time to rest and some time out with friends and I think I finally found jeans that will fit me. I am really short (only 4'9") and getting pants to fit is horrible and I dread it whenever I need to get new jeans. For dress pants I can hem them myself so not so bad and I can get ankle pants that are normal size pants on me but jeans are the worst. For the pat few years I have been ordering my jeans from Old Navy. I got the same ones every year so it was easy to just get on and order them. They fit so I wasn't changing anything. Well they discontinued them. I tried another pair with the same size and they are took long. I even checked Levi's since they size them like men's but they still don't go short enough. I ordered a pair for JC Pennies that are petites and the inseam looks like it will fit. I am very hopeful.

Catching up from the weekend...

My big accomplishment Saturday was picking up my new phone. I'm really questioning why I did it... the camera lenses are slightly bigger, so my new micro-lense camera add-on won't fit: the plug is slightly bigger so none of my charging cables fit, the camera itself is slightly larger so had to get a new case. I had to order a phone because they didn't have them in stock and in the week that it took to arrive the $1000 trade-in deal was discontinued and I only got $700. Ugh. Ok, rant is over.

Sunday was spent sitting on the sofa crocheting and watching TV. I've changed my mind about the Afghan layout multiple times, but I think I'm finally settled... possibly.

I'm sitting pretty low on the motivation scale this morning. I took a shower and styled my hair, so points for that. It isn't raining so I'm planning on getting out for a midday walk and I have Pilates this evening. I think that's as far as motivation is going to take me.

New phones are so frustrating!! DD is starting to look into getting a new phone. She has an iphone 11 (I think) and she's wanting to upgrade. Last time we looked all of the good upgrade options are for newer phones (her 11 only gets about a $200 trade in I think). I makes sense, but they almost lock you into thinking you need to upgrade every 2-3 years so you get the good upgrade deals. UGH!

I'm also not super motivated right now - we leave for a cruise on Friday and I know I'm not going to track then, so why do it now has been my mental state for the past few days. But, I've regained a few of my lost pounds and I can really tell with my clothes and my back has been aching a bit more and I'm pretty sure that's why. I seem to have a sweet spot when it hurts/doesn't hurt and I'm over the line again 😢 . That should be motivation enough for me to step it up even before a trip!

isn't it amazing what a difference a couple pounds can make in how things fit. And just a couple days of good eating can make a big difference in how you feel.

I am not motivated as much either right now. I need to get moving as I do not want to gain this weight back that I lost being sick.

I finally heard from DD's doctor about all the blood work and testing they did for her antibodies. She has officially been diagnosed with Hypogammaglobulinemia. Basically she has low antibodies and this is why she gets sick so much. They are running more bloodwork this week and then she is getting the DTap and pheumovax vaccines. Then in 4 weeks they are going to do blood work to check to see if he is retaining the antibodies for them. Right now they are low and should not be. If the tests come back good then it is just Hypogammaglobulinemia and we will talk about her being on maintenance antibiotics. If they come back low again then she has CVID and will most likely need antibody replacement every month for the rest of her life. Having the low antibodies causes a lot of issues with your lungs and since she is still coughing she wants to do a CT scan of her lungs. She said infections can hide. She is also talking with her pulmonologist to see about doing other testing as well. One of the tests would be to take fluid from her lungs to test it for infections. Lots going on here with DD but we are both happy that we are finally getting answers. It has just taken us years and it was all by accident too. She doesn't tend to get a lot of infections but gets a lot of viruses. We were at the pediatrician when she was sick 2 weeks ago and she had a break down and crying because know one ever knows why she is sick or what she is sick with. This is a huge puzzle piece for her.
