DH's lovely, wonderful boss just gave him tons of work with a deadline of 3 days before we go on vacation, and says he might not be able to take vacation. I'm so bummed :( We have already invested almost $3,000 in this vacation with airfare, our DLR package at GCH, etc. We bought our package through costco. How does canceling work, or is it even possible? We can still add the insurance as I need to finish paying by the end of the month, but not sure if work related cancellations are even covered under the insurance. Anyone know? We are all so excited to be going and we can't believe this is happening. We leave here about a week before we are going to DL (going to vegas 1st then SIL's for thanksgiving), but airfare later is so super expensive, one way is like more than what we paid for round trip, so even paying to change our flights, we can't afford the new flight prices. This totally is a bummer. How do we even know what to do when we wouldn't know until 3 days before we leave anyways if DH got everything done, but he says there's no way regardless to get it all done. Anyhow, anyone know anything about cancelling last minute, please let me know. Thanks

I can't help you in regards to info on canceling a Costco package, but I can say I’m sorry to hear about your situation.:grouphug: Why don't you wait a little before you decide to cancel, maybe a couple weeks before the trip your husband can evaluate where he is at on his assignment and see if it is possible to finish it up by the deadline? If he is not able to complete it by the deadline could he finish it before the second half of your vacation, which is your Disney trip. I know you may still be bummed about canceling Vegas and Thanksgiving with your SIL, but at least your entire trip won’t be canceled.

I hope all goes well for you!:goodvibes

disneymama, thanks, I'm not going to cancel just get, going to wait until the very last minute and plan as if we are still going, I just kinda wanna know what to possibly expect if we do have to cancel. I've never booked a package, had hesitations, but it was such a great deal, and we are getting to stay at the GCH!!! (hopefully :=)

We booked our airfare at a great price awhile ago, about $425 each roundtrip, but now due to the holiday, all dates around it are like $450+ one way so we'd be looking at about an additional $1200 in airfare and we got a great deal on a car rental only $360 for 18 days and I checked that too and that's a couple hundred more too. Otherwise, just changing dates would have been fine.

Ahh, just still hoping DH can get everything done or boss realizes it isn't possible to begin with. DH is going to try to talk to him again today.

I think the costco packages are booked through the Walt Disney Travel Company, so the same cancellation and change fees may apply. Here is an old thread about WDTC:

I'm sure if you called your costco travel agent, you could get the lowdown.

I just want to add that I feel bad for you having to possibly cancel or change your dates. I've seen a lot of your posts lately and can tell how excited you were getting with the planning.

Yep they are booked through WDTC and if you call to talk to a costco Disney rep, its really just the WDTC rep. Same cancellation policy.

Maybe once your DH explains the situation to his boss, his boss will have a change of heart regarding the deadline. Keep the positive attitude and I'm sure it will all work out:goodvibes Keep us posted:)

You should have seen pages of the cancellation/change fees while booking, so check those. The fees get higher as you get closer to your trip.

If the boss is at all reasonable, hubby needs to tell him that this trip is big and expensive and partially non refundable, so they have to work hard to get his goals finished. Because I'm sure your hubby can work his tushy off over long hours to get it done...but if the boss is threatening no vacation even if it's done, that's not cool.

If we were in this situation, and it could happen, hubby would not ever want DS and I to cancel, he would take us to the airport and shove us on the plane (if the airfare is not cancelable, he'd have a ticket to show to TSA!).

I would think that he could stay at work during your first week, then fly out for the second part of the trip, the Disney part...that way it gives him more time to work on the project, but he still gets to take part of the trip?

If he really does have to cancel, it's going to be easier on you financially to cancel sooner rather than later. Though it would actually be better to re-schedule instead of outright canceling...the package people might help you out a bit more than they would otherwise, if you do that.

You'd have to ask them about trip insurance, but I really doubt that adding it late and then canceling for work purposes would fly.

I'm with Molly on this one. I was wondering if it would be cost effective for you to change just your DH's ticket and for you and the kids to fly out and do some of the things you'd already planned. If your hubby's boss is not flexible, that may be the way to go.

Hopefully your hubby's boss will be flexible and he can get things worked out so you can all take this vacation together from start to finish. Or, perhaps rescheduling would be a better choice than outright cancelling.

Let us know how it goes, sending pixie dust your way. pixiedust:

Well I'm feeling your pain on this one, hubby called home tonight, he's been having to work away for the past several weeks, and we may have to cancel our trip at the end of November too. Same issue with later dates being to expensive, and too close to Christmas for us. We still have nearly a month to know for sure, but I hate not knowing!! I wish we could all just win lotteries and not have to work anymore and spend all our time on vacations! :goodvibes

This seems to be a recurrent theme. My hubby came home two nights ago and said his boss was not going to let anyone have the day after Thanksgiving off. The boss went on to say that everyone else had had their days off, and now it was time for him and his family to have time off. Keep in mind this is a very small company, less than 10 employees. Of course this happpened the day after I made reservations for the Holiday Tour (non-refundable!) I'm thinking hubby will just have to call in sick!

Hope everything works out for you, kailaugirl.

I would have thought his boss would have already know that he was going on vacation. One of the jobs have, I have to remind the boss about once every 3 days over a two week period. It is a game he plays, the time we can get away is severely limited the way it is. Sorry to hear about you problems.
