Wine and Dine Half Marathon Weekend (Oct. 31-Nov. 3, 2024)

Start time and pace makes a HUGE difference: I assure you, starting from mid-ish D with a 3:20:00 time, that last hour in full sun was BRUTAL! I was fine up until then. Faster runners have a very different experience than those of us pulling up the rear!
Oh shoot you're totally right! Ugh yeah that full sun must have been terrible, and the time change definitely didn't help that! ☹️

Plus, the course crowding that comes in later corrals makes it hotter.

I started early because of CrD, but I stopped for too many characters early in the race, so I was quickly consumed by the big corrals, and even if I'd wanted to run, a lot of the time the space just wasn't there.

I completed the 1/2 marathon and it was my first road race of any distance. I signed up with some friends on a whim so I was totally regretting my choice. I was super surprised how "not bad" it was. Ha ha.

Before the race the longest I ever ran was 8 miles so I was pretty confident I was going to need to dip out mid-race but the miles all went by quickly and it was actually fun! I can totally see why so many "non runners" do these races.

I normally run a 10 minute mile pace (but just 6 or 7 miles!). With all the crowds, bathroom lines, stopping for selfies, slowing down for water, people watching etc it was just fun & relaxing more than a "race". We ended up with a very chill 13.5 minute/mile pace.

I thought the weather was perfect with a nice breeze so sort of surprised to see all the people saying the humidity/heat was worse than normal.

We were in the middle of D and finished at 3:30 hours race time and around 3 hours running time.

With walking around in the afternoon and the EPCOT after party we logged over 23 miles for the day!

So I'm in this same boat, but apparently in the minority. I'm used to super swampy hot days and the entire time I kept thinking that it was never that bad. I might even say the beginning parts were even comfortable weather! The only time that was tough was the mile or so stretch of running directly toward the sun. I was def sweating a lot more than usual so I won't say it wasn't humid, but I never got the feeling that it was brutal or unbearable. I'll also add that I hate the heat and am usually a big baby about it so I'd say it says a lot! LOL

Woof. That was warm. And I didn't even get a reprieve from the heat when I got home. It's high 70's in MA today.

Dad and I had a great time (and Mom and friends, etc.). A full recap to come!

For my memory maker knowledgable people out here... my dad got memory maker and we loaded our bib numbers no problem. All race photos are showing up. He didn't have everyone on his friends and family list so we added a few folks to his list when we got home, but their park photos aren't loading. Any clue with what the issue could be?

Make sure everyone has your dad able to see their photos. I think the setting is in the friends & family list on the website not the app.

ETA: on the website, go to friend & family, hit edit setting for the missing person and scroll down to allow xxx to see your photo pass pics. I think whoever is missing will have to do it, not your dad. They will “allow” him to see their pics.

I just got an email survey about my race weekend experience. It didn't have much that was remarkable, but I did find it interesting that they asked which start group I was in and did NOT have an option for Group E. Oops!

runDisney really needs to hire a proofreader 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

I don't think they were running boats that early.

We stayed at Ft. Wilderness and after the trip to the expo took so long (golf cart to bus stop, bus stopped at Wilderness Lodge and Contemporary), we splurged for the Minnie van. Expensive, but worth it for us. It was just an 6-8 minute wait and they had a booster seat for my 8 year old.
I was wondering what it would be like to stay at FW for the race. We want to do W&D next year and stay at the Fort. We actually had Nov reservations but I guessed dates wrong and now only have partial reservations 🤪.

I figured it would be a headache to go from Fort Wilderness, but we had Fort Wilderness reservations for Halloween before the runDisney dates were set and only later decided to do the 5K after my kid wanted to do it. I've previously stayed at All-Stars and Saratoga Springs and had smoother transportation experiences.
