Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Becky - A big congratulations to your DD :yay: Where is she going to college, and does she know what she wants to major in?

We were thrilled to see she actually got a diploma & not a blank piece of paper! :rotfl: There is actually a picture of DD in the Kane County Chronicle from graduation. It's a candid shot but it is as if he was focusing on her for the picture so it turned out really well.

She is going to go to Dean college in Franklin, MA and as of right now she plans on going with Musical Theatre but is only planning on doing an Associate there for right now. If she really loves the school, then she will continue on to get her BA there. If she doesn't then she will see about possibly getting her BA here in IL. It will be interesting to see how it all works out.

She is still getting used to being done with school, I don't think it has sunk in. She keeps telling me how it feels so weird.

I did decide during the speeches that I'm WAY too much Disney ingrained & she said the same thing! In one of the speeches, the speaker talked about the ripple effect of your actions and instantly "Pocahontas" popped into my head (it did hers too). :lmao:

I lost my job last month. Fortunately, I have a fantastic network of colleagues who pulled together for me and helped me find a great new job within 16 days. This allowed us to sail away on our two week Hawaii cruise without having the spend the entire cruise worried about coming back to a job search and how we were going to survive while I was out.

I'm now a presales SE for security VAR.

I have to tell you that there is nothing I honor more than knowing that my colleagues respected me enough to pull together and help me when I was down. I will be forever grateful to them.

Congrats on the job! I wish I could have taken that hawaii cruise myself. I got off the Fantasy about a month ago and had a fantastic time, not to mention met a lot of great people from the boards.

I just renewed my annual pass and am going to WDW again in 31 days. Got a little taste of Florida this past weekend, eh?

"geffric - A big congratulations to your DS too :yay: Where is he going to college?"

SLO -:confused3 He is graduating college..yep:eek: college ( it is the older one).. saturday at 10 am.. then on to his next adventure whatever that will be..

Hi All -

Today was work, laundry, yard stuff, ( still watering) .. not very exciting.
Since DS#2 has my car, I am without..so my range of wadering is limited.LOL

I wish I could have taken that hawaii cruise myself. I got off the Fantasy about a month ago and had a fantastic time, not to mention met a lot of great people from the boards.

While I would have *loved* to have cruised on the Fantasy, I'm really happy we didn't miss this Hawaii cruise. There were some who say they wouldn't have done it if they had known the rough seas or weather we had, but Carol and I loved it. The first full sea day was really rough, but the worst we had otherwise was no worse than sailing through a tropical storm in the Caribbean.

We were really looking forward to the really long cruise with so many sea days. Even with 10 sea days, we feel like we could have used more time on the ship. There was some concern going in that we would end up bored to death feeling like there was nothing interesting left to do, but that just wasn't the case. The days flew by and before we knew it, the cruise was over.

Of course, with only 2,000 passengers on board, and less than 300 of them being kids, the adult areas filled up quickly. The family pool was always half empty, while the cove pool was packed. But we had no problem finding space somewhere that we could relax and enjoy. Granted, it wasn't always our first choice, but we didn't let it bother us.

Ultimately, we would do it again in a heartbeat, and we both highly recommend it to anyone else that is interested. Geffric is going in October, and we know she is going to have an awesome time! If Hari is back from vacation, spend some time and chat with him. He's the beverage manager on board and is great to chat with. A lot of industry experience and some interesting stories. And Jesus, down in the Cadillac Lounge, did most of the tastings (Rum, Martini, etc). He's just a lot of fun and we spent many a night at the bar with him laughing away as the time flew past.

I don't think we are getting a softball game in tonight :sad1:
I always get so excited on game days, and it's such a let down when it rains. We do need the rain though, so I guess it's no all bad:rolleyes:

Last day of school for my girlies today :cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:
We are going to celebrate by nobody having to listen to me yell about getting ready for bed, going to bed, staying in bed, and etc :rotfl2:

Becky - Good luck to your DD, and I hope she likes that college in MA that she is going to attend :wizard: Keep us posted on how she is doing.

DQ - Where are you staying when you return in a month?

geffric - COLLEGE :faint: Have I known you that long?! I guess so, but it seems like yesterday when we all first met. Congrads to him :cheer2:

Crissup - Your cruise sounds lovely!!! I'm so glad you both had a great time!!!:goodvibes

Hi Ho, Hi Ho, it's back to work I go!!!
Have a great night everyone

OMG I actually read that as JESUS (as in Christ)

LOL! He actually kept telling people he was Jesus (as in, Jeesus). LOL! Evidently, people mispronounce it so often, he just went with it. He would tell people at the end, go in peace my friends, I love you all! Tell people Jesus taught you all about good spirits! LOL!!

I took this picture of Katie pitching, and I thought it was so cool, and I wanted to share it with all of you.

Thanks Crissup!!!!:goodvibes

Today Kevin and I are celebrating our 17th Wedding Anniversay:love:
We are celebrating at the park all day - soccer and softball.
Stephanie has a soccer tournament, and Katie has her first All Star practice.
I'm hoping we can fit a dinner in there somewhere, but if we can't, we'll just go another time :)

Have a great day today!!

Happy Anniversary Slo! 17 years .

Hope you're all well. :grouphug:

Good Saturday morning :wave2:

Don't have much time, but I wanted to say "HI"

My friend, who's the coach that always pitches to the team, is on vacation, which means I gotta do it today. I've been dreading this day all season, because I suck. All eyes will be on me, and I can already feel a tension headache coming on. This is going to be the longest 1 1/2 hours!!!!!:headache: Send some :wizard::wizard::wizard: my way so my suck level isn't to high this morning :rotfl:

TTYL

Hi everyone!
Haven't been here in quite awhile.

Slo- you will do just fine!!:wizard::wizard: for you!

School has been out for my kids over a week now.

During Memorial Day weekend, my son, Matthew, was at his marching
band trip in Washington DC. I was one of the parent chaperones.
Did a ton of sight-seeing and a ton of walking as well!
Our school marching band marched in the Memorial Day parade in Wash. DC.

Anyways, seems like the DIS is slow this morning, or my computer is slow.

Hi to all!

Rosemarie

Morning all! Sitting poolside at CSR listening to Disney music while my sleeping family sleeps the day away (what a waste). Took a beautiful walk this morning around the resort and just relaxing. Hear it is HOT at home. It has been gorgeous here. Warm but not so you can't stand it. Headed to the Poly tomorrow-can't wait! Our 20th anniversary is tomorrow-couldn't afford returning to Hawaii, so the Poly will have to do.:rotfl:Hope you all have a great rest of your week.

:tigger: TiggerRn......... Have a great time. Sounds like so much fun. Can't wait for a little report when you return! Happy Anniversary!

princess: Rose! Hi! Can't believe your kids are so grown up - wow - time is moving along :hourglass.

:beach: Stay cool all. Supposed to be better for a week or so now. :flower3:

Oh DIS Chicago people....please help!!

My college-age daughter has just accepted an internship in the Fields Museum. She will be in Chicago this summer starting around June 4th thru about August 10th. We are from New Jersey, and have never been in the Chicago area and are completely unfamiliar with the transit system as well as Chicago's various neighborhoods.

So....I've been scouting around for suitable summer housing, but have been confused by the local area. If you had a child who needed temp. housing, with her daily destination the Fields Museum....where would you feel comfortable? Something within walking distance? Or a different neighborhood with good mass transit (as she won't have a car)? Is there a college campus nearby? I can't think of another type of residence that would be furnished other then a college campus.

I've tried searching but have struck out. Would love some advice. Thanks a ton.

Debbie

Original poster here. Wanted to swing back and let those of you know how things went.

We found some university housing for my daughter in the depaul university area. Very close to the Red Line, but more importantly a bus stop directly in front of her building with a short ride to the Field's Museum. We are very pleased with her building and location.

Since we had never been to Chicago, we decided to fly out there with her, make sure she was settled and have a mini-vacation. All I can say is WOW!! Chicago is an amazing city...you natives should be proud. Mass transit is fantastic, the sites are incredible, and more importantly everyone we came in contact with were lovely!!

We visited the Art Institute, Acquarium, Field's Museum (of course), Museum of Science and Industry, Willis Sky Deck, and we saw a show at Second City. We had such a great time. And the FOOD!!! Lou Malnati's pizza was scrumtious. We had hot dogs at Portillo's, and a great meal at Joe's Crab Shack. We walked along Lake Michigan, and visited your parks.

My daughter is loving her time in Chicago. We didn't have time, but she has seen fireworks at Navy Pier, and even been to the Beach.

Thanks for your help and advice. Congratulations on a wonderful city!!

Debbie
