Calling all Chicago DISers #3

I always love to see this thread pop up.

How is everyone?

first up, how are you?

do you have one in college and one out or about out now?

i'll be at the motherland in 12 days.
8 days there then move over to the darkside resorts for another lengthy stay.

i need to connect with tigggeerrrnn as she and a friend will be there when i am.

i keep thinking about slo and how she is spending her time.
i was so hopeful her store would not close.

well, hope all the other chgoland homies here are doing fine.

come on people, this thread still has a life to it, come check in!!

MAC :wave2: how are you?
I was thinking tha it was almost time for the annual journey to the motherland.

Geoff graduated and is working for David Page for Senate..until elections, then if Page gets elected, he may offer Geoff a job..or???

Eric is still at U of ILL, stil with same gf. This year he has an apartment.

DH and I are going to Hawaii on the Wonder in about a month with a stop in Carsland and Ghiradelli on the way.

Other than that, same stuff...

I was sad for SLO and her store..she really did everything she could to make it a success but the economy got her ...

What is with your boys and parents and you??

i think you should make plans to do the motherland when i go.....
i had so much fun with you and your friend, we need a repeat.

the parental units will out live me.
i spend more time with them than i do my husband sometimes......

the boys are at home and that's a whole 'nother story of its own..

i leave in about 11 days for my trip and have absolutely nothing prepared for it.
i usually get my packing done around midnight, sleep then for 4.5 hours then get up as the car service is in my driveway.
i've been doing the trips each year like that and one of these years, i will change that.

next year i will prepare at least a week out from the trip....:)

Hi Mac! Slo did get the job. She is learning the ropes now and closing out at the store.
I am getting very excited for my upcoming trip. Staying at CBR. Haven't been there since 1996. Hoping it is as great as some of my Disfriends say it is. Have dinner ressies for California Grill, Sannaa, and Ohanas. And a lunch ressie for Coral Reef. All new ones for me except Ohanas (which I can't seem to not go to any time I am there ;)). We have Food and Wine touring plans and a MNSSHP day. I am contemplating a Segway at Epcot with the new breakfast included. Fun to do the adult things for a change. Mac, hoping you will plan to join us at the party on the 30th. Otherwise, just keep me abreast of your plans and we can meet for lunch one afternoon or at F&W. I will PM you my cell #.
Kids back in school. DD started high school this year.:sad:Can't believe it's come to that!:rotfl2:DS is in 7th :rotfl2:grade and indignant having to "deal with these kids that just won't behave"! :rotfl:He cracks me up. Some of their classes are very overcrowded and more kids keep coming in. No $ in the budget for extra teachers. Sad, really. So many teachers need the jobs.
Working still part-time and volunteering at the schools. Keeps me hopping.

Getting ready for garage sale days this weekend. Need Mickey Money!!! Time to clean out all the old halloween costumes and outgrown sporting equipment.

Hoping you all are finding yourselves busy and loving life. Enjoy the nice days we have left before old man winter rears his ugly head once again!

Always good to see folks popping up here. Miss the more frequent visits we used to have.::yes::

so tell me all about your city! My best freind and I are planning on staying in kaosha, wi and taking the train into the city. Our number one must see thing is West dankin st where my dad grew up. he died when I was 16 and grew up in Chicago. We would like to either go to the brookfeild zoo or the lincon park zoo. Which is better? I love monkeys, she's into pengiuns and her husband loves lemers (and looks like one too:rotfl2:). We also intend to go to navy peir. What fun stuff is there to do there? Also what is there to eat there? I hear the shedd aquarium is cool. Im into fish but them not so much. I know we have to visit the sears (willis) tower. we also plan to see wrigley feild, meliumin park, the magifincant mile and union station (were Mark greene fans. Remember er anyone?) Is ripleys belive it or not worth going to? How about the planetairum? Where are good places to eat for a person with severe seafood alergies? We do plan to eat at the hard rock cafe. Any suggestions? Is it hard to get around without a car?
We are:
Bestie- 27 (into medical stuff, going to nursing school)
her husband: 30 (into nascar and works for water rescue)
Me-28 (into police and fire)

Hi..
Chicago isnt any more dangerous then any big city..just be aware of your surroundings and your purse..

getting around without a car is easy..in fact I would never use a car in the city.. how about the Museum of Science and Industry..

Uno's or Gino's for pizza
Thai food/Chinse food? Are you into that..many great places..
there is a chocolate buffet at the Pennsular Hotel..( very costly)
let me think some more..

Uno's or Gino's for pizza

I would highly recoomend Pizzaria Uno or Pizzaria Due, if nothing else, just for the experience. If you've eaten at Uno's chain restaurants, there is no comparison. These are the original and much better.

Thai food/Chinse food? Are you into that...

I'm not a big fan of chinse food, but I do love good Chinese food. ;)

Coming in from Kenosha is pretty far.....you do know that right? Museum of Science and Industry is fantastic! Don't miss the submarine tour! Planetarium is pretty small. Art Institute is really great. Navy Pier is very touristy, but it you haven't seen it...go. It's the Penninsula Hotel that has the chocolate buffet I believe. I like to go to the Ritz Carlton for afternoon tea. Shopping on the magnificent mile is great. Brookfield Zoo is better than Lincoln Park but it's in the suburbs. You could take the train though. But Lincoln Park is nice as well. For pizza, we love Lou Malnatis! Willis Tower is a must, but you can also go to the top of the Hancock building or have drink or a meal at the Signature Room on the 95th floor. Please feel free to PM me with any questions, as I'm a lifelong Chicagoan. Have fun!

Returned home. Hoping Mac had a great trip and enjoyed the DarkSide as well. It was great to meet up with you at MK for a bit. Had a great trip and working on a little report now from both the summer trip and this fall trip.

HI Chicago friends.... I AM HERE now! Just saw the update from Tiggerrn in my email box and reminded me to say hi to you all from Mickey. It is BUSY this year compared to others - of course I'm not as good a planner as most Dissers. Beautiful weather though and loving this free wifi FINALLY. :cheer2: Hope you're all well. :flower3:

thanks.... hey,.last night we got a peek at the new fantasyland addition! it's really cool. I didn't go in anything except the new gift shop, but lots of it was open. Including the BAR :rolleyes1. I walked around and looked it all over from the outside of buildings. The roller coaster has a long way to go to be finished. I found a new hidden mickey and took a pic for that board - hahha. By Ariel's Grotto.
tiggerrn... had they moved the fireworks when you were there? They're way back now aren't they? I watched Wishes from the back of the castle last night and it seemed they were back FAR? I'll read your report when I get home. :thumbsup2
