Calling all Chicago DISers #2

Status
Not open for further replies.
Hello all, I took your advice and hunted up this thread which was on page 3 of the community board, probably because everyone is still at the mall ;) I'll check in later and meet everyone all over again.

I just made the connection to who you are on the DIS now. :rotfl: I remember your sig. It was nice meeting you!

I just got home a little while ago. I did some shopping. I got candy cigarettes! :rotfl2: I saw them on the Internet a while back, from my childhood, and was wondering where you could get them. Well the answer is the new-ish candy store at Yorktown! They also had bubblegum and chocolate cigarettes, but the candy ones are the ones I used to eat. And they're exactly the same. I'm taking them to work tomorrow to show my fellow 30-somethings. (OMG, I'm 30-something! Like the show! :scared1: ) I also got Fun Dip, that powder with the sugar sticks. I love that stuff! :yay: This is all flashbacks to the gas station near my house when I was a kid. Now I just need the chocolate footballs. :lmao: Then I got Big League Chew bubble gum, because someone's mentioned it at work and I think someone will want it. I just can't remember who!

I went to the new stores, to one called Denim Loft. I was hoping I might be able to find some short jeans. But it's a boutique selling items from small designers, so everything was like over $100 in there. I did end up finding a pair of shoes at Aldo that I might like. They're shipping it to me in a 5, which is supposed to be like a 4 1/2. I wear a 4. :scared: Really hard to find shoes. These are wedges. I'm kind of obsessed with them, trying to find some heels for myself. It's not easy. :sad2:

I hope everyone had fun!

piglet too said:
:sad1: It looks like I won't be able to make it today. Money is very tight and I really should not spend the money on the gas to get up there. I am so sad because I was really looking forward to meeting everyone.

We should really try to have Meets more often. ::yes::

Hey all,

I see this thread already got buried back down to page 3, but that's ok, I found it!

I Just wanted to let everyone know that Amanda and I really enjoyed our first meet. It was great to see everyone and get some advice on ADRs and the dining plan and such. We're looking forward to the next meet for sure!

Now, I should go start packing for our trip, we're leaving two weeks from Thursday!

sk8t- I remebr thos gum cigs, too. I thought they were so cool. Can you imagine?:rotfl2: I love Big LEague Chew. It is so soft and yummy, I swallow most of it.
flash- Where are your adrs for?
Rose and ID- My friend's son has Asperger's. All in all, he could be a lot worse, but he has severe episodes at times, especially when under stressed, like at the beginning of the school year.

Well, work was slow so I got cut early. I missed the meet and didn't even make a bunch of money! Oh well. I am scheduled a ton this week, so bring on the tips, people. I need souvenier buying money for the honeymoon. My dcs collect pins and I've decided to start as well! DS has already given me his souvenier list!:rotfl2:
So, what'd you guys think of Wall E?

slo, didn't see your question to me until i came back to reread when i posted the tv listings.

the roof was done in a day and a half.
that is finished.
to me, a roof is a roof. can't do much with it except keep us dry inside.
so, it's not an exciting item to me........and they cost too much.

the windows are still coming along.
it took 2 days for the upstairs window and family room patio door.
tomorrow they start on the first floor and do the pull outs and refits on the dining room, living room and kitchen. i think it will take the entire day and some of tuesday.
they hope to finish everything by thursday this week.
once all the windows are in they will come back and do the insulation, outside covering and inside and the trim.
a week after that is all done, the painter will come in and do the varnish on all the trim inside.

whew..........and it ain't cheap either.

maybe this is why people move from one house to another all the time so they don't have to do maintenance and repairs.............

Don't take any wooden nickles. ;) :lmao:

Thank you! At least I don't have to tip this out to the bussers, bartenders, host, and food runners. Yes, this baby is all mine! Now, do the stores in WDW take wooden nickles?

:surfweb:

Well, I gotta get going and take a slow walk today. With my back hurting, I'm not going to be able to speed walk like I normally do. Have a great day today!!!

These TV listings make me want to get cable back...especially the food network ones...

slo, I'm sorry you didn't like the movie - flash and I came home yesterday and we were like, we want to watch it againnnn. We'll probably use up some movie passes to go see it again :lmao:

Everyone there - we had a great time. Thank you for being so warm and welcoming to a couple of newbies :goodvibes

Leigh - did you find Steve and Barry's? I had heard myths of this place (all the clothes are 8.98, except I had heard $12, so I was even happier). Maybe this wasn't exciting to anyone else, but they aren't around here! We got some shorts for Disney.

paint - Are you sure you really want the list? :lmao:

Our first night is offsite at a place called amura...this is the night before the wedding, and not my choice. My dad is staying at Universal...I feel so traitorous! But, that atmosphere is more his style anyway.

After the wedding is lunch at Raglan Road, dinner that night is at Ohana with just us, the next morning is breakfast at CRT (I am spoiled, this is our second time), we have Boma for our first night at AKV, another Raglan Road the next night (the menu looked too good to only eat once...and we really like DisneyQuest), Hollywood and Vine is two nights later, Donald's Safari Breakfast, Coral Reef, Ohana breakfast, Crystal Palace lunch and dinner (I am thinking of cancelling the dinner), and Jiko.

Whew! Believe it or not, we still have a few nights open, and we're still packing a box of food (CS is mostly nothing special to me). I feel like we're staying SO long - but, it's a honeymoon I guess :lmao:

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: Sounds like everyone had a great time at the meet! I wish I could have gone :sad2: While I was running errands with my dad, I saw something for Wall-E and got a little bummed I couldn't go. But I did get a lot that needed to be done, done.

Slo ~ how's your back? I hope it's getting better!:wizard:

ama4889 ~ I'm getting married in Disney too! :goodvibes although I'm April 2010 so I still have some time! Do you have a planning journal on the Weddings Board?

Leigh ~ I loved candy cigarettes growing up! :goodvibes there used to be a candy store a few blocks from my house that my sisters and I used to walk to in the summer. They had "surprise" bags for $1... they would have tons of candy in it.... now something with that amount of goodies would cost $5.

Mac~ thanks for the listings! You're great! :thumbsup2

Piglet ~ hope you had a nice weekend! :)

Everyone else ~ :wave2: have a wonderful day!

ama- We are doing Boma (first night, never been), Coral Reef, CRT dinner (never been), Yak and Yeti, Sci Fi, Whispering Cayon, San Angel, Crystal Palace Dinner, and O'Hana Bfast. Some counter services I won't miss are Pinnochio's Village House and Casey's (nothing fab, just family tradition),Tangeriene Cafe and Sunshine Seasons (so good!) and of course I can't miss a Dole Whip or schoolbread. Looking forward to trying Tonga Toast, too! Ugh...bring on the Tums! Oh, and I'll still talk to you even though your dad is going to Universal.:rotfl2: I will be going when they open the Harry Potter section!
slo- Too bad you didn't like the movie! I kinda' felt that way about Cars. I never saw Meet the Robinsons. I heard it was sad.
Dgal- Have you been looking at invites yet? My sister got the cutest castle ones! There is so much Disney wedding stuff out there!

I am getting into the "too excited to sleep" mode now. I keep thinking of all the things I need to do and pack, going over things in my head! The good news is, when my eyes flew open this morning, I just got up and went to the gym (like it will even put a dent in the ddp's calories!). Anyway, hi-ho, hi-ho...yeah, you know the rest!:)

We are doing Boma (first night, never been)

*Love* Boma!! For both breakfast and dinner.

O'Hana Bfast

Haven't done their breakfast (I tend to head for the Kona Cafe for my Tonga Toast fix). :) Love their dinner though. I still prefer their old pineapple and carmel sauce for dessert, as opposed to their new ice cream and bread pudding dessert. Forunately, you can still get the pineapple and carmel if you ask. This last trip, I asked and they brought a *huge* bowl of pineapple piled high and a serial bowl full of carmel dip. I was in sugar high heaven! :)

Pinnochio's Village House

I was very disappointed that they changed the menu at Pinnochio's. No more burgers. I ended up with a chicken caesar salad that was just OK.

Criss- Thanks for the info. I think Boma will be a great arrival night dinner. What do you think about WC? Or CP dinner buffet? Do you think I should change one of those to O'Hana dinner? I'd then want to change O'Hana bfast to something else. It's our last day, so nothing in park. What's good for table service bfast?
Anyone else's opinions on the above are welcome, too!
See, these kind of important decisions are keeping me up!

Leigh - It was great to see you yesterday too!!!:goodvibes I didn't get to give you a hug when you left so here's one now

Yeah, I think you were talking when I left. I thought maybe I'd see more people at the DS, but I think I was out of there before a lot of you showed up.

**Katie didn't like the movie at all :sad2: I thought it was just okay

Yeah, I thought it was ok, but it wasn't my favorite. I don't really appreciate brain-washing in my movies. ;) But the robot stuff was cute, and I always like futuristic Jetsons-like stuff.

Leigh - did you find Steve and Barry's? I had heard myths of this place (all the clothes are 8.98, except I had heard $12, so I was even happier). Maybe this wasn't exciting to anyone else, but they aren't around here! We got some shorts for Disney.

I saw it, but I didn't go in. I didn't really feel like trying on a lot of stuff, so I only went in a few clothing stores and didn't end up trying anything on. I went in Forever 21, but it was just kind of overwhelming :rotfl2: , and I didn't see anything that special.

Yeah, the candy cigs were $.99/box! The Fun Dip was $1.25, and the Big League Chew was $1.75. Not cheap anymore!

It turns out what everyone here wants is the Fun Dip, so if I go back to Yorktown I need to get a bunch of those. Oh, the name of the store is Fuzziwigs Candy Factory, if anyone is interested. There was also a store called Too Cool that had Japanese imports of things like Hello Kitty, Pokemon, and anime. There was a little Disney, and I got a small bobblehead Mickey. You didn't know which year you would get, but I got a 1928 B&W one. It's cute than I thought it would be. I have it here at work now. :goodvibes

It was good seeing all of those that I've met before, and meeting those I hadn't! :cool1:

I think you can still find Fun Dip at Jewel, if you don't want to go back to Yorktown. We get them as special treats for the kids when they are on sale for $1.

Sounds like a lot of fun was had yesterday. I really wish I could have made it.

Morning all!! I am glad you all enjoyed the meet. I am sorry I had to work.:sad2: And work we did!!! We had 3 patients come in and deliver all within 4 hours.
Slo, sorry you didn't like the movie. I thought it was cute. Kellie had a ton of fun looking for all the easter eggs and hidden mickey. Kids are now watching Incredibles and she is intently looking for items familiar from other movies once again,. Hope your back is feeling better.
Paint, are you packed yet? Getting closer. I would be too excited to sleep myself.:rotfl:
I got my Creative Memories hostess gift in the mail Friday. Disney photo albums and journaling papers. I can't wait to get started filling up the pages!!
Leigh, I love the old candies. There is a website you can go to and order all kinds of that stuff. Licorice pipes and candy wafers (flying saucers with sour powder or beads inside), candy cigs and bubble gum cigs, buttons, and all kinds. Fun just to browse. I forget what it is, but if you google old time candies, I think that is how I found it.
Bunchkin, I think your meet was a success. Great job, once again!!!
Well, I had better get a move on. :laundy: and lawn mowing to do (Need a little mower smiley) Plus I think I would like a little relaxing pool time for myself today.:rolleyes1
Later all.

What do you think about WC? Or CP dinner buffet? Do you think I should change one of those to O'Hana dinner?

I've only done WC for lunch or early dinner. A lot of people love it and speak highly of it. However, while I do enjoy it, it's just never been a meal that I felt I had to go back again. Meaning, if we're there, I wouldn't hesitate to eat there, but I don't go out of my way for it.

I've only done CP for lunch. It's your typical character buffet with corresponding food quality. Many people love it because it has Pooh and his friends.

I haven't met anyone yet who hasn't loved O'Hana's dinner. They load you up with fresh bread and appetizers first, then start bringing around the skewers of meat and shrimp. They'll continue to bring you more of anything you ask for.

What's good for table service bfast?

I don't do too many breakfasts where I order from a menu. Kona is one notable exception. Tonga Toast is legendary at WDW and everytime they've changed the restaurant at the Poly, they've kept the Tonga Toast.

For breakfast buffets, I enjoy the Garden Grove at the Swan. The themeing is dining inside of a large birdcage. Another great breakfast that not many people know of is the Trail's End Buffeteria. Boma has a great breakfast buffet also.

Hi everyone!!! :wave2:

The family and I had a great time yesterday! We like Wall.E well enough, not our favorite, and we deffinitly do NOT like the political Al Gore underlying statment of the whole film. Love the 'Hello Dolly' parts, as I like that movie, it made me go and check it out from the library! I want the kids to see it.

It was good to see so many new people show up!!! I hope you had a good time! :goodvibes

slo I hope your chiro can help your back feel better soon!
It was really great to see BOTH girls at the meet.
My kids really enjoyed them both being there! :goodvibes

This last trip, I asked and they brought a *huge* bowl of pineapple piled high and a serial bowl full of carmel dip. I was in sugar high heaven! :)

Is that in any way like a serial killer but with bowls involved??? Death by carmel dip???? YIKES!!!! :scared1:

;) ;) ;) ;) :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Leigh I used to stop at the White Hen across from my grade school to buy candy cigs before class!! Boy those were the days!! We thought we were so cool with them on the playground!!! :lmao:

Tiggerrn Sounds like you were really busy at work! Sorry you had to miss the meet again. Next time!! :thumbsup2
There is whole web site dedicated to those EAster eggs. I cannot remember their web address though. But a couple years ago we printed out a whole list of movies we had on DVD and started watching them to check out all the cool stuff. They even have some movies listed that have stuff hidden in the menu screens!!!!!! :yay:

paint We've been to O'Hanas for breakfast a few times and we love it!! They have the best potatos there!!!! Man they are good!!! :worship:
Even DS loved them and he is the pickiest eater in our whole family. :thumbsup2 CP has good food at all their meals, in my opinion! ::yes::

piglet I'm sorry you couldn't make it to the meet this time. But I totally understand. We've all felt the pinch of high gas prices. I let DH take my car to work 2 days last week so he didn't have to use his gas sucking work van. Of course that left the kids and I stranded at home!!! :rotfl:

Howdy to all of you! :flower3:

Oh, one last thing..................... Have any of you been watching Cartoon Network's Total Drama Island?? I LOVE this show!!!! It's too funny!! :rotfl2: I very rarely make time to watch a cartoon show!!!

:surfweb:

My young employee that left me for Jewel, has agreed to just work on Saturdays, and Jewel is allowing it (thank God!!!). She's really happy about this, because she really does like working for me, and I like having her. I told her that if Jewel doesn't schedule her alot during the week, that she can call me, and work on her non-Jewel days if she wants - she liked that idea!!!! So, even though I'm going to be working a ton more, at least I still have her on Saturdays, and once in awhile :)

ama - I'm glad you enjoyed the movie :) I didn't completely dislike it, I just prefer my animated movies to have more huggable characters, and a more warm and fuzzy story.
**I bet you are getting so excited for your wedding:dance3: Please take lots of pictures so you can share them with us.
**Your ADR's sound great!!! I've never eatin at Raglan Road, and I'll be looking forward to hearing how you guys liked it.

DG - My back still hurts, but the adjustments from the Chiropractor is helping a small bit. Thanks for asking!!!:)

paint - I'm glad you are trying the Tonga Toast (it's my favorite ya know!!!!:goodvibes ) Remember if you want to try it for cheaper, you can eat it at Captain Cooks at The Poly, instead of The Kona Cafe. I naturally prefer The Kona Cafe, because I love that open air restaurant.
**My favorite breakfast places are.......Crystal Palace, Kona Cafe, Chef Mickeys, & The Concourse Steakhouse (when it was there :sad1: ). We do love 'Ohanas for dinner - yummy!!!!!! :goodvibes

Crissup - We've never eatin at Boma's, and I'm a little nervous to try. I fear that I won't like the ethnic type food:rolleyes: . I"m going to have to bite the bullet and just try it someday, because I keep hearing such good things about it.

Leigh - I would really like to walk around that mall someday, it looks really nice!!!!:)

TTTTTigern - It sounds like you were really busy at work. The good thing about that, is it always makes the time go by fast.
**I didn't see any Easter Eggs in the movie (I wasn't looking for them either). Were they throughout the whole movie? Now I'm going to want to see this again, so I can see what you are talking about.

Bunchkin - I didn't love the whole underlying statement etither in Wall-E:sad2: When I watch an animated movie, I want to step out of reality for awhile, not get smacked in the face with it.
**Thanks for the hugs for my back :)
**My kids loved seeing your kids too. I wish we all lived closer so Lauren and Stephanie could see each other more.

Well, I gotta get going and do some things around the house. The girls birthday party is this weekend, and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed on how much needs to be done around here. When I'm home, Sophie totally monopolizes me time, because she needs alot of attention, and therefore nothing gets done. But she's so darn sweet, that it's easy to give her all the attention she wants:goodvibes

Have a good day today!!!
