Bush can just "taste" the coming spilling of American and Iraqi blood....

That's correct, AFR, but the BUSH Rx for death and destruction has nothing to do with inspections. As you've pointed out many times, he has "reserved" the right for the USA to act to protect its own interests regardless of the U.N..............

As you've pointed out many times, he has "reserved" the right for the USA to act to protect its own interests regardless of the U.N..............

And that's a bad thing because...?

Sorry, but I'm not of the opinion that we should give veto power over the defense of this country to the United Nations. We have a right to self-defense, with or without approval of the UN. Do you really advocate us giving over our self-defense rights to the United Nations??

EROS writes...."If he had refused to allow the U.N. Inspectors in, then I would have supported WAR. If he throws the current Inspection team out, then I would support WAR."

Eros, how does a wise president prepare for such a possibility? If we are not prepared, do we just send jets over from Cleveland? Put our troops on the next American Airlines flight to Baghdad? Let Fed-Ex deliver tanks the next day? "OK, Saddam, you've made us mad now, just hold on for six months and then we'll get you". Six months for protesters to dance in the streets, six months to smuggle bio weapons out to terrorist groups. I don't think so. We need to be ready. We need to be prepared. That is what a good president does.

Shortbun, which of these statements do you feel us moderators should address? A poster who expresses doubt about another posters stated profession, or a poster who refers to anyone who disagrees with them as a "cannibal" ? ??

Despite accusations to the contrary, we do not like to run around deleting every post that pushes the envelope of the guidelines; it's much easier and more productive to post a reminder when things start veering off course. . . if the reminder is blatently ignored, then obviously we try something else.

And as always, if anyone sees something on the CB they feel is inappropiate, don't hesitate to use the "report a post" feature and explain why- that is the best way to ensure something will be looked at and dealt with if necessary. :)

Let me just say this to you my brother
in peace - "A man convinced against his will is of the
same opinion still." The folks you are arguing with
are never going to accept an iota of your reasoning.

Since when is he a brother in peace? He just said he'd agree to war with Iraq if it met his conditions?! No one is trying to convince him against his will. I know I at least am trying to decipher this because I see no logical sense behind it. But please by all means attempt to show me the "reasoning".

And Eros......I'm sorry I didn't realize I needed to state ALL possibilities for the US to start war with Iraq. The findings of inappropriate materials that Saddam didn't list nor is willing to destroy, his not allowing the inspectors access to areas they need, his kicking the inspectors out of Iraq, etc etc etc Sorry I can't possibly dream up every potential situation, but don't worry Saddam has been planning for a long time now, I'm sure he's thought up of quite a few on his own. Your own words make it sound like George won't wait for anything to happen he'll just go to war without any cause.....not that there isn't even enough cause already....

Ok EROS so you think that none of this will occur and that even if any of the above circumstances happen THEN war would be acceptable? So you're against the President planning for a war that most of us see as inevitable? It'd be better to go in there blind and have there be MORE innocent deaths?

Could you please explain to me........how it is ok for us to go to war when you give the blessing but it is not ok with out it? With the way you have gone on about war and being blood thirsty (let's remember all the choice comments made following 9/11) could it be your just as blood thirsty but only on your own terms?

What if Gore was in office? Would you be ready to go to war now? Is it just because of your intense loathing of Bush?

Ding ding ding we have a winner!!

I think that many, though not all, of the people that oppose a war against Iraq oppose it only because George W. Bush is sitting in the White House, as opposed to either Al Gore or Bill Clinton.

Thus, all of the invective against the President.

Well, I just heard on the news that Saddam has gone on Iraqi TV and stated that the weapons inspectors are spies.

This is probably his tactic to justify his kicking them out.

You mean Saddam might be less than honest and find a way to get the inspectors out?! Didn't I just say something about plotting and planning? What timing! ;)

I'll take an opposing view (so what else is new?? :D ). I just think that we're hearing a lot of rhetoric from Saddam. Hey, he KNOWS that he's under our thumb; he's just trying to act "tough" for public consumption at home. Look, he may be a megalomaniac, but he's not stupid. He realizes that WAR will mean the end of his authority....and probably his life.

The question remains, will George be satisfied enough to keep letting the Inspectors do their work??? It's hard to be patient when you can taste blood in your mouth.........he's hungry:( :( .

Nikole, you're married to someone in the military. I certainly can respect that you and your husband would accept the judgments of the Commander-in-Chief. If he says FIGHT, your husband and his comrades will FIGHT; that's their job. However, it's NOT mine; civilians in our society can still question the path chosen by their leaders...............

I would never question anyone's right to question the path chosen by our leaders. But statements like this:

It's hard to be patient when you can taste blood in your mouth.........he's hungry

and this:

but I'm afraid that this Administration WANTS to shed American and Iraqi blood...........

and this:

Killer George

and this:

In other words, the only "good" Iraqi is a "dead" Iraqi . George reportedly has that motto overlooking his toilet in the White House living quarters .

aren't questioning authority. They are simply unsubstantiated blather that you use in an attempt to justify an argument that you have thus far been unable to make.

Here's one for you Eros!

This may be off topic, but I've been on these boards for awhile, and I thought that I've noticed some conflicting ideaology here.

Eros weren't you a Republican that voted for Busch? Did you change your whole perspective based on the Iraqi situation, or am I mixing you up with someone else? It's no big deal, but sometimes these things are hard to follow. :D

That's correct. If more Germans had been able to see that HITLER was a madman, then the devastation of WWII could have been averted.

So we can assume you point is if more Iraqis see Saddam is a mad man they can do what?
How is the average Iraqi on the street going to be able to avert Saddam's dictitorial powers?
They just turned out in virtual unanimous vote of support that was just as unanimously seen outside Iraq as forced by Sadam? Given he can and has forced people to the pollls to support his rule you think he can't and hasn't suppressed dissent?

Since we are speculating on how WWII could have been averted, maybe the lesson of history is Chamberlin should have said it will be war in our time, mobilized some troops, put some advance units on the ground it would have made it clear that appeasment wasn't working. Possibly he could have "reserved" the right to act without the concent of other states and the devastation of WWII could have been averted.

ROFLOL

I think you may be a tad mixed up. As I recal my pal EROS voted for the Victoria Secret babe in the skimpy black thing... or was it the one in red?

Oh and I forgot to say, "Hi there WillyJ. I'm trying to play nice" (lifting a Nyqil toast in his honor)

Actually ZURG, I was referring to BUSH:D :D .

Your point is well-taken, however. It's hard for the people to rise up against tyranny in a dictatorship/monarchy. Sometimes it means waiting for the death of a ruler. Other times, it means revolution (as in the history of the..............USA:D :D :D ).

Of course, Chamberlain and the British were "snookered" by Hitler. Fortunately, the entire world sees through Saddam. I'm simply asking that we give Inspections a chance rather than unleash a wrath of death because of a fixated President...........

Minnie, you're confusing me with someone else. I would never be mistaken for a Republican:jester: :jester: :jester:

I'm sorry, did I miss something? Have we halted the inspections?

O.K Eros it’s obvious that you don’t like the position “Killer George” is taking in reference to Iraq, and probably anything for that matter. How do you think “Nuclear Al Gore” would have handled the situation? I bet “Nuclear Goooooore” would of went over there and ripped Saddam’s freaking throat out with one hand and put the internet in homes of the Iraqi people with the other! I bet “Nuclear Gore” would have dropped the big bomb on them because he loves to kill people!!!!! Especially with a big fat nuclear warhead!! A good winter for old “Nuclear Gore” is a nuclear winter! I have absolutely Zeroooooo evidence to back anything I’m saying up!!! But I don’t need it! I’ll just say “Nuclear Gore” over and over and over again until people start believing it!! As you see in this picture he was in Vietnam, “Slaughter House Gore” they used to call him helped in the Killing of 2 Million Vietnamese, hell he probably killed some of his own people, because “Nuclear Gore” loves his KILLLLLIN!!! I still don’t have any proof, but who cares!!! I’ll still call him “Nuclear Gore” because it sounds cooooooool (And I’m A Republican!!!) “Nuclear Gore” is not going to be happy when when “Pacifist Bush” starts dropping bombs in military locations. Why not you ask? Because that’s not enough KILLLLINN for murders like “Nuclear Gore”!! Forget “Strategery”, Nuclear Gore would just wipe um all out, and make it one big *** flea Market where they sell “who wants to be like Al Gore Action figures”. So just be thankful that “Nuclear Gore” and his side kick “Mass Murderer Liberman” are not running the show. OR else there might not be an Iraq left when the war is over. (I still don’t have any proof, Oooooooh well!!!!)

Those poor soul's didn't stand a chance in hell!!!

EROS, maybe people who were against the war would post with you if you didn't lump people into groups and call them names? I know I would, but as it is, I don't see fellow community members as "cannibals" or some of the other names you call DIS members.

I also feel for members of the DIS community when you go on about the loss of life, whether it be our own soilders or those of the people of Iraq. We all know war means death and destruction. There are people on these boards who have sons, daughters, sisters, brothers, nephew, nieces, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, grandchildren etc. who will see action in the Gulf. It's stressful enough knowing that they may be in danger of losing their life or they may take the life of someone else, without being constantly reminded about it in the blood thirsty way YOU describe what might happen.

Just a few thoughts.

Thank you, you hit the nail on the head. We have heard enough of this, and Eros I think its time to give the family members a break and stop adding to their worry and stress!

why would he assume this? It hasn't in the past?!

Appreciate the sentiment however, I've never signed any contract that says I have to agree with my government or with the President. Proud to say my husband and I are able to think for ourselves. I absolutely believe in the right to question the path chosen by our leaders. It just so happens that after 11 years of being in the same situation, I think it's finally someone with enough er fortitude stands up and takes care of the problem once and for all.
