Imagine that you're a tough gang leader who is threatened by a "bad actor" across town with a gun. So you round up your ARMED posse of 30 gentlemen and one day SURROUND your assailant. After some brief name-calling, what ensues???? sharing some kool-aid??????

Once our troops and forces are in place, GEORGE is going to cite justification to start the killing regardless of the U.N.................UNLESS the PEOPLE can get through to him..........

The last poll I saw, the people had gotten through to him - they favored a war to get rid of Hussein also.

And let's face it - if President Bush were as bloodthirsty as you claim he is, we would have nuked Baghdad long ago...

Bush still enjoys majority support, but it's slipping :D :D

Most Unconvinced on Iraq War
Two-thirds believe Bush has failed to make the case an attack would be justified

by Maura Reynolds

WASHINGTON -- Despite a concerted effort by the Bush administration, more than two-thirds of Americans believe the president has failed to make the case that a war with Iraq is justified, according to a Los Angeles Times poll.

The overwhelming majority of respondents -- 90% -- said they do not doubt that Iraq is developing weapons of mass destruction. But in the absence of new evidence from U.N. inspectors, 72% of respondents, including 60% of Republicans, said the president has not provided enough evidence to justify starting a war with Iraq.

The results underscore the importance of the outcome of U.N. arms inspections underway in Iraq if the Bush administration expects to gain clear public support for an attack.

The poll also found that support for a possible war appears to be weakening, with 58% saying they support a ground attack on Iraq. In an August Times poll, 64% said they would support a ground attack. Last January, after President Bush first denounced Saddam Hussein in his State of the Union address, the Times and other polls found support for military action greater than 70%.

What would animals like “Nuclear Gore” do, or “I like to let a bunch of criminals go before I leave office Clinton” do?
Hey, I got a question Eros? In the future instead of saying Bush has a vendetta against Saddam for trying to kill his Pop. Why not say "Bush has a vendetta against Saddam for trying to assassinate the President of The United States of America"?

Pokie and Saffron, I respect your wish to insulate the families of our servicemen/women from any unnecessary stress. :D

However, the lesson of Vietnam is a clear one. It wasn't the Generals or the President who finally brought a halt to the killing.................. it was THE AMERICAN PEOPLE:D :D .

The BEST way to insure the safety of our soldiers is to AVOID at all costs putting them in harm's way. WAR should be our LAST alternative.

Hey, over 100 Congressmen and 30 Senators voted AGAINST the IRAQ WAR RESOLUTION. You may think that I'm an anti-war lunatic, but their patriotism should not be assailed.

Yes EROS, it was the American people who stopped the Vietnam War. They protested in the streets, on the campuses, at the Capitol, in the voting booth, where ever their voices could be heard. The compassionate people who embraced the men and women when they came home, who protested in ernest, who wouldn't be stopped because they wanted the killing to end, stopped the war.

I for one don't think you're an "anti war lunatic".

What I'm trying to say EROS has nothing to do with our government and the issue of whether there will be a war or not, so I've not said anything for awhile. I can't argue politics, I'm not knowledgable enough to do so, so I've been staying out of the fray, otherwise I would be off topic. But ... since you mentioned my name :p ...

What I was saying has to do with showing some compassion and empathy with the community members who have loved ones in harm's way or on their way to being in harm's way. I know you're a compassionate man.

Just stop calling people names, whether they are faceless members of an Internet bulletin board or they sit in a White House on a hill. You said, " ... but their patriotism should not be assailed". It seems to me, when you belittle and degrade the leader or our armed forces (whether or not you agree with his policies), you do so to the entire military. That hurts me for the family members and loved ones of service men and women on these boards. You can say a lot of things about the President that lets us know that you don't care for the man without the name calling. Same with making remarks about "DISers". We are a community. You belittle each and every one of us when you make comments about "DISers".

So, before I get warned to stay on topic :jester:, I'm outta here! Have fun, voice your opinion, it counts. Could you just try not to belittle others when doing so? :) Oh! And I haven't read all the posts, I just read yours. LOL! :p I hope you are not being belittled either.

That's all folks! :p :p

Come on EROS, fess up...you've been talking to Miss Cleo again, haven't you? :p

Eros,

You recently referred to President Bush as an animal and a killer among other things.

If he was the kind of person you describe we would be at war now. He has no need for the United Nations if all he wants to do is kill. We would have ramped up our preparations and probably be at war now. If he was the kind of killer you describe it would be a short war because he would follow a scorched earth policy and anhillilate as many future Saddams as he could. You have no basis for such awful descriptions but I guess it's the Big Lie theory at work. Say it enough times...

But where is the war? You and people that talk like you and march in stupid demonstrations all act like there is a war but no war exists. You imply there is *no* way such a war could be justified and then out of the other side of your mouth you say that you would support a war if the inspectors were expelled. And why? Because you know in your heart that a war against Saddam Hussein's government in Iraq could be very, very justified. If you can accept a scenario where war with Iraq is justified then your name-calling can only be chalked up to partisan politics. Your pacifist bleating is rendered hollow and meaningless by your waffling.

Saphire, the Los Angeles Times poll shows that only a little more than HALF of the American people support a ground invasion into IRAQ. Unfortunately, once the bombs start dropping, it will be too late to protest. Of course, judging from this thread and others, I'd say that over 95% of DISers support WAR if the President initiates it ; fortunately, the DIS is NOT representative of the larger cohort measured in the poll:D :D :D .

If there are any here who reject Bush's headline rush into killing, please let your legislators and the White House know of your feelings.

I don't expect to see many of you at any upcoming stop-the-war rallies:jester: :jester: :jester: :jester: .........

Wow! This thread is still dragging on??

I thought everything had been cleared up last night when it was determined that:

(A) Anyone who supports the killing of innocent women and children in Iraq and places our military in harms way is nothing more than a member of the "blood-thristy hang 'em high club"..

UNLESS:

(B) Saddam Hussein does not comply with the UN - at which time it's perfectly acceptable to kill innocent women and children in Irag and place our military in harms way..

------------------------------

Do I detect a bit of back-peddling here?

And EROS - I don't believe I "misrepresented" what you said.. You were FINALLY painted into a corner where you HAD to answer my questions - in order to save face - and I merely posted your responses in bold black letters so no one would miss your "talking out of both sides of your mouth" - as you so frequently accuse others of doing..

Are you yet AGAIN changing your mind??

ZURG, excuse me. I never assailed the patriotism of those Congressional members who voted WITH the IRAQ WAR RESOLUTION.

THANK YOU,

You did it.. you answered my question... you told the people of the Dis what you think they should do...

"If there are any here who reject Bush's headline rush into killing, please let your legislators and the White House know of your feelings."

That is how we affect change and let our opinions be known by letting our elected officials know what we are thinking... I have done it before and will do it again.

I can't say I've read ALLl 196 posts, but I've been following alot of them, and it's thought provoking and kind of interesting to see it boil down to this!
Thanks Marsha for being persistent and Eros for being passionate...and finally answering her question :) ;)

Well- everyone hold onto your hats..... a friend of my dh's family is a Major in the Marine Corps and the leader of a tank unit (I'm sure my terminology is incorrect... I'll edit if I find out the correct term) but anyway he has been called up. His Dad says he will be one of the first to take his men in.... just because of the nature of his unit. I think this may happen sooner than we think.

Just back-don't have the kind of time as all others here but..
AFR-I can't argue with you, it's too intense in that sweet
brain of yours AND I don't have time to pick apart every post
you make either. Wish I did, I just don't have time.
You've sent me off to war-invited me to leave our country-
asked me to go away so many times. I don't mean to
plague you. I just feel differently, that's all. Please try not
to get so mad about it- you might explode and that would
not be good.
Willy-if the first post had not have been made-the 2nd would
not have followed. I'm glad you don't feel the need to
delete things and my comment was very lighthearted-
not really calling for moderators as I think EROS can clearly
handle himself. I was suprised at the lack of objecting
to the call for nuclear holocaust-not by moderators, just
by everyone.
Nicole- the old saying I placed in my post was to say
to Eros that his post would get him nowhere NOT to
belittle those who don't agree with him. It was not
aimed at anyone as a slam. Peace!
Gotta go-time for the day to begin.
Have a good one everyone!
I really don't get back to read these things sometimes
for a day or two so don't be shocked if I
don't answer for a while-I'm really involved in
day to day life and my family. the computer is strictly
a "when I really have time" thing.
