We did the tour this past April. I agree that the buggys are old but the tour was fun for our 10 yr. The driver let him sit up front with him. The driver's name was Elvis and his horse's name was Mr Wonderful. If you decide to take the tour do not pay their asking price as they will back down alot. They will approach you when you get on the island. Also once you agree to a price you think is fair, tell him that you will give him an extra five if he gives you the "royal" treatment. I'm not sure I would do it again but it wasn't all bad. We learned some very interesting things. Alot depends on the driver I think.
