Bring back the good o' days, Things ..........

I was a Dark Shadows addict to be certain. DH and I had been married a few years and were on vacation, getting ready one morning in the hotel room. DARK SHADOWS came on the TV and we both stopped dead. Turns out he was a fan too! Soulmates! So we sat down and watched it for a while. OMG, it was so BAD!!! :lmao: They had on serious STAGE makeup for TV, fake eyebrows were peeling off, and some of them were clearly reading cuecards. One of us said, "Man, this is bad. Was it this bad when we were kids?" The other said, "It had to be, but we were too young and stupid to know any better." But we still sat there and watched the entire episode.popcorn::

Writing and thinking about the Vietnam War the other night brought back 2 memories, one sad and one pretty funny. I remember that near the end of the war, a classmate sold MIA bracelets with her uncle's name to several of us. I think they cost $1, were pewter and just slipped on your wrist. They had the guy's name and rank and maybe even when he went MIA or POW. My DH didn't remember these so much, so I guess they weren't a big deal at his school. My friend had sibings from elementary to high school, so her uncle's MIA bracelet was worn all over town. I wore it every day. I guess the proceeds went to help MIAs/POWs or their families. Anyway, the war ended, but he was never found. I'd love to find my bracelet, but I have no idea where it is.

Now for the funny story. I was about five and the news was on. They were talking about the Viet Cong and how they used guerilla warfare tactics. I listened and finally said to my mother, "Those gorillas must be pretty smart." Needless to say, she had to explain and I learned about guerilla warfare early. But at least I was able to go to the zoo after that and not be worried that those d*amned gorillas would sneak attack us.:rotfl2: Fast forward to not long ago, when DD was also 5. She heard the term used, looked at me and asked, "Wow. Do the gorillas get to have guns too? Or just the humans? That's good that they know how to fight like that." ACK! Deja vu!:scared: Just like Planet of the Apes! So I had to explain the whole thing to her. She didn't feel so bad when I told her I had thought the exact same thing.

Oh, and thanks for the tags!:flower3:

Oh my gosh, that is too funny! Remember the little baby ape that was born at the end of one of the Planet of the Apes movies. It said, "Mama, mama!"

I used to think that liquidation sales meant that the furniture store took the furniture and ground it all up in a machine and made it liquid!!

Gosh, I can remember using baby oil with iodine mixed in. Wasn't that just grand! Oy !

Does anyone remember a show called "Mr. Terrific"? He was a flying superhero, only he had to flap his arms when he flew. No one my age at work remembers it, and no one in my family remembers it. I have to wonder if it was some kind of funky dream I had that I am now convinced is real.

I didn't have the time to read through 29 pages, but...

Crab apple fights in the neighborhood, we got our sand buckets out and went to town!

My purple bike with a banana seat!!

Playing "TV Tag", "Ghost In The Graveyard"

Fisher Price Little People set was the coolest!! I still have them all!!

Pitfall, Frogger, BreakOut and Pole Position

The funniest one...I used to preted I was a gymnast, went and stuck my hands in flour, and tried to swing on the bars of my swingset...too funny!

Yea!!! TV tag!!! I forgot about that and how about the little people back in the day when they were wooden not plastic and actually "little"!

I remember romper room, wonderama, captain kangaroo, emergency, love american style, adam 12, dragnet, the twilight zone, alfred hitchcock, creature feature (think this was a wash dc-metro area thing featuring count gore devall who also played captain 20).

I remember the old washing machines with wringers on them (got my fingers pinched many times). I remember my grandmother not having running water, just a well and no inside toilet...just the outhouse  I hated going to that thing at night :rolleyes1 not to mention the chicken were always there ready to chase you down....ahhh the good ole days :lmao:

I remember my Barbie whose arms and legs didn't bend. And her friends Midge and Ken.

I remember the original Captain Kangaroo show with Mr. Green Jeans, Bunny Rabbit, Mr. Moose and Dancing Bear.

I remember the old soaps--like Secret Storm and the Edge of Night. Not that I understood what the heck was going on.

I remember using an empty Pepsi bottle, filled with water and a cork with a metal top with little holes in it, to sprinkle water on the clothes before you ironed them. I guess steam irons hadn't been invented yet.

I remember the smell of freshly dried clothes as you took them off the clothesline and folded them into the basket. Everyone had clothes lines.

I remember going door to door, alone around our neighborhood, when I was maybe 7 or 8, selling candy for the Kiwanis Club that my dad was in.

I remember riding in my dad's Corvair car, he was driving and my step-sister and I were in the front seat with him. No seat belts either. He turned the corner and the passenger door flew open and my step-sister almost fell out of the car! Too funny!

I remeber the Edge of Night...How about Ryan's Hope...does anyone remember that? I have a DD named Jillian partially because I remembered loving that name when my mom would watch the show:love:

Beware all the magical Tag fairy is out and about around here I got a double dip on the tagging OH MY!!

OK so am I the only one that LOVED Name that tune???

I can guess that tune in 3 seconds how about you??

How many folks here owned a POGO stick?????:jumping1:

Ah, I remember Name That Tune and it was in notes not seconds. I can name that tune in 3 notes.

The funniest one...I used to preted I was a gymnast, went and stuck my hands in flour, and tried to swing on the bars of my swingset...too funny!

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: Must clean off keyboard and monitor. :coffee:  Classic

I remember those :) especially dinner. If by chance you did ask mom....her reply was "we're having shut up and eat it" :lmao: needless to say we didnt ask alot :rotfl:

My mother was very generous. We always had TWO choices for dinner.

1. Whatever she was cooking

2. Poke and grits

For those of you outside the South, here's an explanation. At first glance, you might think poke and grits is an actual food option. After all, we have grits. Yum..... And we do eat poke salad, which is a green that grows wild. You cook it like spinach or turnip greens. But noooooo......... Poke and grits meant:

POKE YOUR FEET UNDER THE TABLE AND GRIT YOUR TEETH!

Translated: Sit down and shut up.:rotfl2:

Another old soap opera my mother weaned me on was Love of Life. Yes, I remember The Secret Storm and Edge of Night as Well. Wasn't there Love is a Many Splendored Thing? I think that was the one with Donna Mills.

I remember when Lisa was the YOUNG vixen on As the World Turns!

I just remembered...

...my brother and I loved to watch the Hall of Justice cartoons (at least that's what I think it was) with Wonder Woman, Capt America, etc

But I loved the Wonder Twins.

Wonder Twin powers, activate!

Form of a river!

Shape of a mountain!

I'm sorry I don't remember that one. I do remember The Greatest American Hero though. Does anyopne remember a show called Matthew Star? I was just in love with him (can't remember his real name though) but no one remembers it.

can't remember that one, but noticed your tag!:thumbsup2

I had Shawn Cassidy all over my room!:thumbsup2

My kids found an 8 track player at my moms house last week--unfortunately no 8 tracks left to play in it, but they found that AND the rotary dial phone amusing!
