it is a nationwide boycott of the high price of gasoline...

PLEASE boycott gas stations today to send a message to the oil industry that we are not going to take this any longer.

Thanks

Mal

Yeah boycott it today and buy it tomorrow, that'll teach em! That makes sense.

Both my cars are filled up...
Wait a minute I filled up on the way home last night at 12:10 a.m...:o

Have to agree with gymnasticsmom68 - simply not buying gas today is not going to make any difference. If we are all still using the same amount of gas as usual, we will simply be delaying our purchase by a day or two. In order to really "boycott" we would have to cut back on our gas use overall, which, for many of us, is simply not realistic.

I thought it was yesterday?!?!?! I really messed up.

I guess I could not buy gas again today though. I can probably boycott right through to Saturday since I have about a half a tank left.

yeppers.

besides...I'll be coasting into my hometown on fumes after my commute home tonight...hehehe...unless you wanna push my truck to the gas station tomorrow...I need a fill up.

The gas station around the corner from me (I'm in southern CT right now)
2.09 for reg
2.19 for mid-grade
2.29 for premium!!!!

I actually saw premium for 2.31 someplace off the highway too

because they just did a report on it.

I agree that would be the ideal thing and since prices have gone up I have cut back on gas consumption.

We will never know if it could work unless we try.

Exactly how can it work? Are you planning to do your normal driving today? Tomorrow? They're not stupid, if you plan to drive, you eventually have to fill up, whether it's today, tomorow or Saturday. The only way to make a difference is to start walking, period.

good point...so I should stop driving to the gym every day...right?

;)

(it actually IS out of my way by about 10 miles...I'm sacraficing my health to save a buck or two...hmmm...is that worth it?)

According to Snopes.com, it was tried in 1999 and 2000, and had no effect.

For a boycott to work, you have to show that you are willing to do without a product or service. Having everyone reduce consumption 10% long-term might work, but waiting until tomorrow (or next week) to re-fuel won't.

I someone comment on TV on this...These type of boycotts don't work and are silly really. Gas use is constant over the long term, so not buying gas today just means you will have to buy it tomorrow or the day after. This boycott is one of the silliest I have heard of. Does anyone think the oil companies really care?

There has got to be something the people CAN do about this. I drive 150 miles to and from work everyday. This is killing me!!!:scared1: Thank goodness I just got a raise, but I don't see it cause it goes into the gas tank.

If the demand for gasoline goes down, so will the price. The only effective way to lower gasoline prices is to use less.

Exactly...long term lower usage of fuel will spark price reductions. It's all part of supply and demand. Small supply + large demand = higher prices. You have to change the equation to read less demand + greater supply = lower prices.

uhmmm OK I am in a quandry

I really need gas to get home from work, but I really want to support the boycot.

I have a pre-paid gas card I got at X-mas. If I use it today, is it considered 'buying' gas, even though it was bought months ago?

TC has hit the nail on the head, the demand has to go down everyday not just one day for gasoline to come down. If we all try to conserve gasoline everytime we could , gasoline would come down. I for once try to combine all of my trips into one, and only drive when necessary. My friend and have started going foodshopping at the same time and take turns driving, but for my dh is another story, he commutes everyday to work 65 miles each way, he has to get gas today or he won't be able to go to work.
Luckily he just received a raise that went to cover for gasoline and health insurance increase, and I consider myself lucky!

Woops well I just bought some gas. :o If I didn't, I wouldn't have had enough to get home from work today, and I really don't want to spend the night here tonight! :p

There was actually a line at the gas tank. Doesn't look like the boycott is going too well....
