Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

QOTD Tuesday, June 5, 2012: It doesn't matter how great your plan is sooner or later something unexpected is going to come up. Do you have an alternative course charted (aka a plan B) just for such occassions?

Hahaa!! Lisa I swear we are on the same wave-length because this is another question of the day that is a subject that I was just talking about!! :rotfl: Anyways, it seems that every single day I make great plans to fit in everything I need to do, including exercise. And then every single day someone in my family ends up needing something else and all my plans change!! So, I have become a pro at adapting. I have several exercise options in my head so when one doesn't work the way I was hoping due to time or place or whatever, I try to fit something else in and just not let it get to me. The best laid plans ALWAYS go astray!! Thanks for this one, love it!

I'm here! I'm going to try to read through what everyone has posted so far, but lately i lack motivation to do much of anything!

So hello to everyone, I missed the intros but i'll do a quick one..I'm Trina, i'm 26 and I'm a dog trainer for *insert big chain store here, i'll give you a clue, you're "smart" if you shop here*, a student studying history and hoping to become a teacher, and as of today a historical interpreter at the Harriet Beecher Stowe House (just got the call today, I got the job!). I started with these challenges about a year ago and have lost 36lbs, and am about 10lbs away from my goal weight. I have no kids but my two dogs and two cats (and fish), and am in a loving relationship of 4 years, although my boyfriend and i cannot afford to live together under present circumstances, so i still live with my parents and he still lives with his.

I decided to start losing weight because i had hit a really low point in my life, where i truly hated myself and how i looked. I have always been a skinny girl and I had reached 165lbs, hated even showering or being naked, ate what i wanted, never worked out, and could see myself heading down a dangerous path. I decided to make a change, and in that year i have learned so much about what it means not only to lose weight but have a healthy lifestyle. I learned how to count calories, eat my veggies, drink my water, and that working out made you feel awesome. I lost weight slowly, but i was ok with that most days, because i wasn't huge to begin with. I am now down to 135 lbs, but i still have the same body issues. I look in the mirror and very rarely see the slim girl that i am. Mostly its my stomach that is my big issue but in general i need to work on how i feel about myself.

I also started running this past year and its something that i truly love. I injured my hip (bursitis) and IT band, so i was banned from running for quite awhile and was miserable. Then winter came and even though i got the all clear to run i just didn't want to. I've been in a funk ever since and i hope to get back into running, starting over from the beginning with the couch to 5k program (its what i used to start running).

For this challenge, I want to focus on not only losing those last 10lbs, but also working on how i think about myself, and working on getting back into good habits. I can see myself slipping into bad habits again, not only with not working out and not eating right, but feeling bad about myself and not eating at all or eating way too much and then being depressed. I've been going through a very tough time and i need to focus on myself again, because i truly believe living a healthy lifestyle makes me feel better mentally, and ive been feeling very depressed and unhappy lately.

I've also been having stomach issues since december which is just starting to get under control. the doctors have yet to figure out whats wrong, and its been a very frustrating time. i was going days without eating and felt miserable all the time. we did determine i am lactose intolerant but that is not the whole issue. its something i am still struggling with.

so that's my story. i hope to be more active this challenge, because i think it will help me get back on track. i def need the help and motivation you guys have to offer because i feel myself falling deeper and deeper into lack of motivation and depression. i'm ready to start over!

Good Afternoon everyone!

QOTD Tuesday, June 5, 2012: It doesn't matter how great your plan is sooner or later something unexpected is going to come up. Do you have an alternative course charted (aka a plan B) just for such occassions?

Um, no plan B... I'm lucky to have plan A. :goodvibes I'm a planner, but never a back up planner. This is totally something I need to work on! :thumbsup2

Yesterday and today have been full of canning pickles, jalapenos and blueberry syrup! Tomorrow I will be making blackberry jam. :woohoo:

I finished week 3 of c25k yesterday, but just don't feel ready to move to week 4, so I think I will redo week 3. I will be signing up for the Wounded Warrior 5k tomorrow! :eek: It will be my first 5k, its on 7/22 and I should have just finished c25k or be really close to finishing.

QOTD Tuesday, June 5, 2012: It doesn't matter how great your plan is sooner or later something unexpected is going to come up. Do you have an alternative course charted (aka a plan B) just for such occassions?

I have educated myself enough to know what good choices to make for food so even if I had to get fast food, I would know how to order etc. If I was unable to make it to zumba, I would try and squeeze something in, even sit ups & push ups before bed if that was all I could do. So I don't really have a plan B, but I have tools to succeed. :)

QOTD-I never used to have a back-up plan but the last challenge taught me that I needed one if I was to have any hope of suceeding sooooooo now I do:banana:
I stock up on healthy foods that allow me to throw a decent meal together in a short space of time for when time is in short supply! I researched the local takeaway menus to discover which meals were healthiest for those times when I'm too tired or just dont want to cook and I have finally learnt how to politely say "no" to things that I know are bad for me (at least most of the time);).

JackslilWench -- I responded to your PM :)

Afternoon everyone!

Well, its been raining on and off here today and well its totally messed my plans up :lmao:. I was up with the alarm and got breakfast made for Alan and I. Then we were watching some tv and we both dozed off for 3 hours. I woke up, made some lunch, and have been puttering around the house ever since.

I'm going to jump on the treadmill and do 2 miles after I finish replies here. Tomorrow is weigh in day for my Sparkpeople BLC. I took a sneak peek at the scale and hoping it stays that way come tomorrow morning. :)

For those of you who are wondering, Alan is slowly getting better. He went to CVS last night and talked to the pharmacist (the one by our house the pharmacy portion actually stays open til 2am, gotta love living in a tourist town :) ). He came home with cough medicine, cough drops, and Vicks vapor rub. He's slowly getting his voice fully back and he's not hacking his head off as much. I'd say he's definately improving.

My doctor's apt is made for tomorrow afternoon. When I called and said that I needed an apt made she naturally asked why. I told her I need a PT/INR draw. She got snooty with me "Well you know you can just come in for a nurse's visit." "Yes, I know that but I need to talk with my doctor." She's a great doctor but her office staff are annoying as all get out. Oh, yeah and that specialist that I called LAST TUESDAY has yet to call me back. Yeah, I know my doctor was annoyed last Thursday when Alan told her that. I can only imagine how ticked she will be now.

TIKI23 --- Your leg massage sounds awesome. My one leg is really bad caused by damage from blood clots. I love when I get a pedi and they massage my legs. I feel like I'm in Heaven. :)

Raenstoirm -- I hope your knee feels better

camnhan -- You have some awesome goals!

Tracey -- I hope your little ones are feeling better

Welcome Jill! :wizard:

BAMB -- Your ADHD comment made me chuckle. I get like that with cleaning and I'll go crazy around the house, room to room cleaning. Alan just looks at me and says, "Who are you and what did you do with Kristina?" :lmao:

Disappearing_Otter -- The bootcamp sounds like a lot of fun. :) I would love to try something like that but I think I would die by the end of it.

QOTD Tuesday, June 5, 2012: It doesn't matter how great your plan is sooner or later something unexpected is going to come up. Do you have an alternative course charted (aka a plan B) just for such occassions?

I have Plan Bs for raining days (like today): Instead of swimming (obviously) I get on the treadmill

I on occasion have Plan Bs for meals but that's if I think about it ahead of time. Sometimes I'm just completely dense in the head and forget to take something out for dinner. Then I'm scrambling trying to figure out what to do. Those are days where it can get dangerous calorie wise. That's why I try to make a habit of logging all of my meals the night before. Then when I get up and check my Sparkpeople first thing I have it right there in black in white what I'm suppose to eat for dinner. So then I naturally go take out whatever it is.

Mommyof2Pirates -- I love working out in the evening. I'm not a morning person either so the idea of getting up and exercising just is not appealing at all. :) I like knowing that all of my calories (for the most part) are ate for the day and the only thing I have to finish working on is my water intake. Plus I've found that when I work out in the evening (depending on the workout) I sleep a LOT better.

Okay, with that being said time to get off my butt and get my shoes on and on the TM!

Toodles! :tinker:

QOTD Tuesday, June 5, 2012: It doesn't matter how great your plan is sooner or later something unexpected is going to come up. Do you have an alternative course charted (aka a plan B) just for such occassions?

I really don't have a plan B. I actually do pretty well with change. If I can't eat what I planned, I can always find a healthy alternative. If I cannot workout when I planned, I will try to throw something together when I can, even if it's a shorter workout than planned.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tomorrow is DSs last day of school, and they are super excited. Then we'll have afew days off before some summer camps start. DS9 is going to archery camp next week and both DSs are going to our park's summer camp. It starts on June 18th and they will be going 3 days a week for 6 weeks. It should be good for them to be apart those days and with their own friends. Now I need to figure out what to do while they are at camp. I'll definitely be walking and hopefully running again. And if the weather ever warms back up to summer temps, I'll hang out at the pool!
I think I'm going to spend tonight going back over the posts and write down people's actual names to go with the usernames. I already forget a few of the newer names! And, I am horrible with names!!
I'll check back in later. I'm off to feed DS6. DS9 already ate because he comes home from school starving everyday! He'll probably eat another dinner, too. I just don't understand how a 61 pound 9 year old eats so darn much!
QOTD Tuesday, June 5, 2012: It doesn't matter how great your plan is sooner or later something unexpected is going to come up. Do you have an alternative course charted (aka a plan B) just for such occassions?
Plan B is ALWAYS my weakness. Even when I plan plan B it never works out. Take for example this week. Had great intentions (10,000 steps a day and restarting C25K primarily). Hurt my knee on day one. By day 4, I was in so much pain (probably because I tried to push past the pain on days 2 and 3), I had to forgo the current plan entirely.
So on to plan B- the local pool opened 2 weeks ago. Well of course it has been down right chilly this week (perfect running weather :mad:) but really bad for swimming. I brought my laptop on to my deck and tried to work outside a bit this afternoon and it was too chilly even in a jacket!
Plan C? Nope, dont have a good one of those. My current plan C is to put myself on bed rest for the next two days and try to stay within my calories as best as I can and then restart on friday. Hopefully a few days of minimal walking will fix the knee and I will be all set to go for next week.
CC--Thanks so much for the HH prize package! It was just like a birthday party! A box and lots of presents inside! It was fun unwrapping all the cute, useful items.
Trina Congrats on the job!!! I hope to see you some time this summer. The kids are dying to go back to the Mark Twain house and I'd love to see the Harriet Beecher Stowe house.
*************************
Had another great day. I worked out my recipe for dinner. Weighed everything, figured out that 1/3 of a cup of sloppy joe mix was 131 calories, so I had 1 1/2 servings and one bun was 160 calories. I split the bun and ate it open faced so it looked like I had more food than I really did.
I was so proud of myself! I figured it out!
I do have to say that is one thing I don't like about MFP, they will divide up recipes by calories per serving but not serving size in weights and measures.
Still learning but I'm getting there!
Hi all,
Been a very long and stressful day, more than it needed to be but that's life right now so I'm just going to accept it!
Izzie isn't feeling so great tonight. She was hurting at lunch time when I was at school with her for lunch and then the nurse called me a few hours later as she was in a lot of pain. Ash and I went to pick her up and then I had to run out and get some more motrin. Her temp is up a bit tonight so we have to keep an eye on her. Her ear is really swollen and bruised which will hopefully be gone by the weekend so she can play her last soccer game. Her eyes look like she's not feeling well. I'm off tomorrow so if she needs to stay home she can. I have to bake cookies for the play this weekend so that's what is planned for tomorrow. I had trouble making the appt for her follow-up which will have to be after our cruise but we will see our PCP before we go to make sure it's healed well. It was just frustrating. Not going to soccer tomorrow night as if she got hit she would be really hurting. Hopefully the events for carnival day will be tame enough for her on Friday.
I did 20 minutes on the elliptical earlier tonight. I did pretty good food wise today. I plan on doing some more crunches later.
I made a bacon double cheese quiche that was made with egg beaters and turkey bacon and an apple smoked Gruyere cheese and cheddar cheese. I think it's the best I've made. I had a small piece since I had soft tacos for supper. I had a 6 inch roast beef sub for lunch while I was with Izzie.
Well, Izzie wants to play a game before bed. I need to keep her up a little late tonight so I can give her motrin again. The nurse said the first 24-48 hours are the worst so we've got another 16 or so to go!
Hi to all our newcomers! I will hopefully have some time to answer the QOTD again soon. Our spa is offering a groupon deal starting later in the week so I will hopefully be busy before I go away! Of course the timing is not very good as my boss and I are both going away and the end of the school year is really bad for all of us!
Have a nice night!
Stay focused on the prize! A healthier you with more energy!
(Izzie wants to add some smilies to my post!)
QOTD Tuesday, June 5, 2012: It doesn't matter how great your plan is sooner or later something unexpected is going to come up. Do you have an alternative course charted (aka a plan B) just for such occassions?
Well, I would have said yes, until I saw my nutritionist today. I now have lots of revamping to do and need a Plan A. Breakfast is staying the same, but lunch and dinner need overhauls. I need to increase my fruit and veggie intake and will have to experiment with which ones do not make me sick. I can eat soy, just not at breakfast. My breakfast is Enjoy Life Granola-something that is gluten, dairy, peanut, tree nut, soy, potato, egg, fish, shellfish, and casein free. It is also oat free and I believe it is corn free. It is made with rice and other natural ingredients plus raisins and cinnamon. I add 1/2 cup of lactose-free calcium fortified milk to it and eat it like cereal. No soy, no gluten, no nuts. All set.
Lunch and dinner are going to be fun. I'm not sure what I'm going to eat yet. I'm thinking soynut butter and a banana on a Corn Thin or 1/2 chicken breast with some veggies. And a serving of fruit. I have no idea what I'm going to have tomorrow. All I know is that it will not be potatoes. That was my Plan B today when we again couldn't use the microwave. It's the only thing the cafeteria cooked today that I knew was GF. The veggies looked strange-it could have been cheese, but they cauliflower was definitely burnt. :confused:
Dinner is even more complicated because my father does most of the cooking. I will be trying to do more of the cooking. I like dinner so much better when I know the ingredients exactly.
I know I have a lot to figure out, but I'm so glad I saw her today. She answered my questions about eating GF and had a lot of suggestions for how I can improve my eating.
CC--Thanks so much for the HH prize package! It was just like a birthday party! A box and lots of presents inside! It was fun unwrapping all the cute, useful items.
Glad you liked it so much!
Thanks for sharing so honestly with us. I think so many people think that reaching their ideal weight makes everything peachy. But many of us still have body image issues...whether real or imagined.
Good job on getting back to running. Congrats on the new job!
Good Afternoon everyone!
Nice job with the sloppy joe. Was it homemade? I have a good old fashioned recipe but DS prefers Manwich. :confused3. I usually add extra veggies, including grated carrots, plus mashed beans....makes it go further, adds healthy fiber, and reduces the overpowering sweetness.
*************
Evening friends! Kids and I got the :thumbsup2 from the dentist, but DS definitely needs to brush better.
DS's b.ball team tied their game tonight. Considering the season, we take that as good news!
Dinner on the road was nothing special, but at least it was healthy, filling, and cheap. :) Chicken and mixed greens on low carb wraps, carrots, grape tomatoes, and fruit.
Had lots of points left when I got home so finished my evening with 4pts worth of mixed nuts and some decaf. Belly seems really gurgly.... Probably the coffee disagreeing at this late hour.
See you all tomorrow!............P
I just got home from my first exercise class ever. Strength and Sculpt. I am wore out! We used resistance bands for a good portion of the class. When we were working on legs at a few points I had to to let go of the bands with my hand so there was no resistance and it was still super hard to do! There was so much I couldn't do but I didn't want to stop. I modified where I could and went slower than the instructor when I needed to. I did have to take a few breaks. It is every Tuesday for 6 weeks so hopefully I'll report back next month that I am more toned and the class is easy for me! :laughing:
I have Zumba on Thursday and am looking forward to that.
I need to write out an exercise plan. I am sticking to most things but I need to get better with a few others.
Let me know if you decide to go on a Saturday or Sunday. I am not far from either place.
:hug: Trina. Are you on myfitnesspal? It's another great way for us to support one another.
I will let you know when we do. It would probably be on a weekend.
Nice job with the sloppy joe. Was it homemade? I have a good old fashioned recipe but DS prefers Manwich. :confused3. I usually add extra veggies, including grated carrots, plus mashed beans....makes it go further, adds healthy fiber, and reduces the overpowering sweetness.
No, it was a mix from Simply Organic. I think I bought it at either Whole Foods or Trader Joe's. You add the mix to warm water and tomato paste, then add to the browned hamburger. I'd like to try some stuff with ground turkey, I just have to sneak it past DH. I should try adding more veggies to it, that's for the idea! It was pretty good though, but DH said it was salty. But what does he know, he hates sloppy joes! LOL
This looks awesome! It would take me and hour and 15 minutes to drive to Pitts for a 30ish minute race. Hmmm...I'm thinking about it since it's so cool. DS9 would probably love this, too. And, maybe DNephew14.
Btw~I can't remember from the last challenge, did DS pick a college?
Jill
Hey Jill ... I am so glad to see you back from the last challenge. How was your Anniversary trip? My son picked PENN STATE! Whoo Hooo! We were going back between Cornell and Penn State. Penn State was the more financially correct choice and he chose it (smart kid! :lmao:)
If you do run the Color Me 5K, let me know and perhaps we can meet! :)
In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room . . . in the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room. All the birds sing words and the flowers croooooon, in the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room!
Uh-oh the gods have been angered by all the celebratin' . . . :scared::scared::scared:
Must have been all the goings on at the laughing place yesterday. ;)
So it's happened. You have all your plans, your healthy food, your exercise planned out and BAM you get a big project at work, someone is sick, the car breaks down. Are you best laid plans totally de-railed or do you have a plan B just for such occassions?
Here is an article from sparkpeople.com called:
Flexible goal planning
It's not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change. - Charles Darwin
Does change stress you out? Do you feel anxious not knowing what is around the corner in life? It is unreasonable to expect the world to adapt for you; rather you must change to fit the world. Life is without a doubt, unpredictable. While it is natural to desire stability and consistency, life simply doesn't work that way all of the time. People pass away, financial situations change, relationships end--all without our consultation! The best solution is to develop a sense of humor and flexibility. Continue to set long-term goals, but keep your options and means for achieving those goals adaptable, just in case life decides to throw a wrench in your plans.
QOTD Tuesday, June 5, 2012: It doesn't matter how great your plan is sooner or later something unexpected is going to come up. Do you have an alternative course charted (aka a plan B) just for such occassions?
UGH ... I love the quote from Charles Darwin! It is so true and I struggle to be this flexible.
Thanks to my MFP friends, I have been preparing for the days that are going to challenge my plan. Having a support group in here, at home, or somewhere else is so important to success. They have helped me to come up with alternatives when I am not sure where to go. So, reaching out to friends is important.
On that note, keep up the great work everyone!!!
My body hates me, but as of today, I am 7% of the way to my goal and down 3.6lbs. Not too bad for 4 days lol. Just can't wait to adjust to the heavy work outs.
Howdy folks!
QOTD Wednesday, 6/6/12: It's Woo Hoo Wednesday! Give yourself a big "woo hoo" for helping yourself to be healthy and share something that you did this week to help you with your goals. Hopefully you don't feel like you've been on the wildest ride in the wilderness!;)
QOTD Wednesday, 6/6/12: It's Woo Hoo Wednesday! Give yourself a big "woo hoo" for helping yourself to be healthy and share something that you did this week to help you with your goals. Hopefully you don't feel like you've been on the wildest ride in the wilderness!;)
I drank 88 ounces of water today and within the last 2 days have walked 3 miles. I've managed to still treat myself to dessert each night and still stay within my calorie range. Which is a great thing considering I'm in the middle of my first TOM in over 26 months! :woohoo:
I got an iphone and set up my running sensor but otherwise i haven't done anything great this week. I joined the challenge so that's something!
I had a really bad day at work. I basically got a talking to from my new boss and she threatned my job. This is a job i've had for three years and i thought a lot of the stuff she said was out of line and innappropriate. I understand where she was coming from but she seriously went about it the wrong way. She told me i should be working in a factory where I wouldn't see people, and i had no business working in customer service. She also told me i should be on meds for my depression. Among other things. Basically i've had some stuff going on and i've had an attitude at work, and instead of asking me what was wrong she just attacked me. I'm going to be speaking about what she said to my other manager and another one of my managers encouraged me to call the HR number but im honestly afraid to lose my job, even though i know those things are set up to protect the employee but im still weary.
so yeah, not the best day. i came home and ate pizza rolls because i was just so tired and blech. so that was a bad choice (not only unhealthy but hey im lactose intolerant)
hopefully tomorrow will be better
