Biggest Loser "Sizzlin' Hot" Summer Challenge

QOTD Monday, June 4, 2012: Which of these motivational ideas can you use on Motivational Monday? Or do you have one of your own? Just make sure it comes from your laughing place!:lmao:

Adventures are found outside, not inside. Every kid knows that the good stuff is in the great outdoors—fresh air, wide open spaces, limitless possibilities. You can’t find those things cooped up in a tiny, stale gym. Open the door and start a new adventure every day.

I started a new adventure today -- I started boot camp today! Umm, did I mention that I went through a phase where I bought too many Groupons? (Ha!) One of them was for a 4-week outdoor boot camp at a nearby park. It's an ongoing series, but today was a "test" day where they encourage people to start so they can measure your abilities. After warming up with a couple of laps around the track, we did some calisthenic warmups and then got to testing -- run a mile, do pushups and sit-ups for a minute each, and to squats and planks for as long as possible. It was a good way to meet the other recruits and cheer each other on. All in al, a good 60 minutes of activity!

Also stayed within my calorie goals today, and drank plenty of water. AND I just remembered that I should take my vitamin... so I'll sign off and do that now. :)

Happy Monday everyone!!!

Awwww, shucks Lisa! I <3 my peeps!

Today was a great day!! I swear I became ADHD overnight. I was acting like DS10 when he's not on his meds.
I got a ton of chores done. I ate 100% OP tonight and even had calories left over before any form of exercise. I got over 10,000 steps in today.
The only thing I didn't do was an official workout. DH is dragging his feet on getting the treadmill down off blocks (flood warning a few weeks ago, and the treadmill is in the basement). But just sitting here jiggling my legs, I probably got 5 miles in!! LOL

I hope tomorrow is just as good. I just felt awesome today!
don't you just love days like those :) here's to a few more of the same.

Good morning all.

A much better start to today then I had yesterday. And the sun is pusing its way through the clouds so it looks like it will shape up to be a nice one.

Can't believe we are already half way through the first week of the Summer Challenge. Time is truly flying.

I have to get all my students reports written this week as they are due Monday. Busy times. School ends on the 29th so I am in full swing concert preparation mode with the students at school. That Friday is an hour long ceremony that entails all my Grade 1 to Grade 5 Students singing together for 3 songs. No rest until the last note is sung that morning.

Today I will do my 2nd work out for C210K. I will try it on a treadmill this time to help me monitor my speed better. Just not sure about the transitions between walk and run as I will need to figure out which buttons to press to accomplish that efficiently. Well trial and error I guess. As long as I don't do something that speeds it up and I go flying off theback.:scared1:;)

Looking forward to the QOTD. It is usually here when I get going in the morning but maybe Lisah's computer is still giving her some troubles.
Have a great Day 5!!!

Christopher

WHOOO!!!! :banana::dance3::woohoo::cheer2: That is AWESOME!!!

Thanks Lisa :) I just need to make sure I don't let the next number I see on the scale upset me if it's moved in the direction I don't want it to!

AB.SO.LUTELY. Tracking is so important for me, because I always forget what I do. And when I track, I find out what doesn't work, but most importantly I find what DOES work.

Nicely put, Buffy :)

Very cool! :woohoo: My present to myself when I reach goal is the Dooney and Bourke white Minnie Mouse bow purse. I can't wait to get it and carry it around everywhere! My DM promised my sister and I she would take us to WDW when we all reached goal...which might be a while.

My sister likes to come up with excuses as to why she hasn't lost as much as she could have lost by now, even though she's also on WW. It really ticks me off that she will use any reason as an excuse. Last month, she went through a 4 week nurse aide training program and at the meeting she went to (her first one in four weeks, mind you) she told everyone she hadn't been coming OR sticking to plan because she was "too tired" to follow it :sad2: And everyone celebrated that she didn't gain. It's like she doesn't get it. But worst case scenario, I'll just go with my DBF :upsidedow

*****************
The WW 5K went great! I have no idea how my time was because it wasn't chipped at all, and I didn't bring my phone with my GPS in it, but I had a great time participating and cheering everybody on. Here is a picture of my mom and me getting our certificates!
WW5K.jpg

I can't wait to get registered for another 5k. I just have to wait for my new check card to come in...I lost mine last week and haven't gotten my new one yet. I feel so lost without it! But I must say, it IS keeping me from stopping and getting junk food from the bakery near DBF's house, so maybe it's not all bad
Love this photo-well done on the race:thumbsup2
I wanted to post this too. I found it on Pinterest a while ago and had shared before but I think it needs repeating. And while this is focused on girls, I think it's just as important for our boys to know they are awesome too! I bolded the most important part!

Waking Up Full of Awesome:
There was a time when you were five years old, and you woke up full of awesome. You knew you were awesome. You loved yourself. You thought you were beautiful, even with missing teeth and messy hair and mismatched socks inside your grubby sneakers. You loved your body, and the things it could do. You thought you were strong. You knew you were smart. Do you still have it? The awesome. Did someone take it from you? Did you let them? Did you hand it over, because someone told you weren’t beautiful enough, thin enough, smart enough, good enough? Why the hell would you listen to them? Did you consider they might be full of crap? Wouldn’t that be nuts, to tell my little girl below that in another five or ten years she might hate herself because she doesn’t look like a starving and Photoshopped fashion model? Or even more bizarre, that she should be sexy over smart, beautiful over bold? Are you freaking kidding me? Look at her. She is full of awesome. You were, once. Maybe you still are. Maybe you are in the process of getting it back. All I know is that if you aren’t waking up feeling like this about yourself, you are really missing out.--- How do we keep our daughters full of awesome.

Love this:)

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for your kind thoughts and words:) Got thru Sunday ok. Glad its over! Found a family funday was on locally yesterday and had an absolute blast with my husband and kids which lifted everyones spirits:) Laughed when I saw monday's QOTD as so much of it applied to our day! Remember how fun it is to run/roll down a hill? Even managed to avoid eating the burgers and ice-cream:banana:

Pamela I'd love to see some recipes on here so another yes vote from me:thumbsup2

Thanks again everyone:)

Good Tuesday morning.

Rainy day here in jersey. It rained so much yesterday that the barbque I was supposed to go to last night was postponed until next week. It happens to fall on a day I already have luncheon to go to and then a meeting. It will be a long day.

We havge our last exams next week and then graduation on Thursday the 14th so this week is finalize things.

Dh has a 6 meeting tonight. TOmorrow his is giving blood and has a meeting at 7 and I have a meeting at 7. Thursday night I have a 5:30 meeting and then 7:15 yoga class.

Snow White I have been there with my sons. One grad college the same year that the younger one graduated high school. They both changed schools the same year so it is an amazingly emotional year. Take a deep breathand try to remember everything.

Off to have breakfast.

Have a happy and healthy day.

Uh-oh the gods have been angered by all the celebratin' . . . :scared::scared::scared:

Must have been all the goings on at the laughing place yesterday. ;)

So it's happened. You have all your plans, your healthy food, your exercise planned out and BAM you get a big project at work, someone is sick, the car breaks down. Are you best laid plans totally de-railed or do you have a plan B just for such occassions?

Here is an article from sparkpeople.com called:

Flexible goal planning

It's not the strongest of the species that survive, nor the most intelligent, but the ones most responsive to change. - Charles Darwin

Does change stress you out? Do you feel anxious not knowing what is around the corner in life? It is unreasonable to expect the world to adapt for you; rather you must change to fit the world. Life is without a doubt, unpredictable. While it is natural to desire stability and consistency, life simply doesn't work that way all of the time. People pass away, financial situations change, relationships end--all without our consultation! The best solution is to develop a sense of humor and flexibility. Continue to set long-term goals, but keep your options and means for achieving those goals adaptable, just in case life decides to throw a wrench in your plans.

QOTD Tuesday, June 5, 2012: It doesn't matter how great your plan is sooner or later something unexpected is going to come up. Do you have an alternative course charted (aka a plan B) just for such occassions?

I don't have a plan B. I am doing good just coming up with a plan A. I am not a big fan of planning, because plans always can go wonky. I just try and be flexible.

Good morning all! :goodvibes

Sorry I didn't get the QOTD posted until this morning. Had some angry tiki gods and big thunderstorms here last night. :scared:

Introduction: Hello all! I am Jill, 35, and this is my 3rd straight challenge.

Hi Jill! Nice to see you! :flower3: It's great to have another maintainer in our group.

I have to expand on:
Everything can be a game.
When I taught first grade, our room would be a mess at the end of the day and no one wanted to pick up the garbage on the floor. So, I invented the "Garbage Man Game". I would set the timer for 5 minutes and my students were allowed out of your chair to pick up the garbage on the floor .... but, you weren't allowed to talk! The first time I played this I can remember telling a child they had to sit down because they were talking and they were so mad they were out of the game. :lmao: I always had the cleanest floors in my wing. The problem was this game NEVER worked with my children at home! :lmao:

This is a bad week for me and I don't think I am going to be able to respond to anyone. I will be reading and lurking .... Keep up all the good work!

Big  for you, Fran. What a happy but emotional time with all these transitions! Hang in there! :flower3:

Sorry about the delay in the QOTD -- thunderstorms last night. :flower3:

You might want to check out these YouTube videos from RunDisney about transitioning between running and walking. http://youtu.be/ZC97nMK-Q94 The demo isn't using the treadmill but it gives you an idea of what you are shooting for. When I went to running school Galloway said the RunDisney videos are top notch. There are others on the RunDisney website too. http://espnwwos.disney.go.com/events/rundisney/run-disney-training-consultant/

QOTD Tuesday, June 5, 2012: It doesn't matter how great your plan is sooner or later something unexpected is going to come up. Do you have an alternative course charted (aka a plan B) just for such occassions?

I've developed several plan Bs to help me on this journey. One of the ones that I use quite often is that I always keep an extra set of workout clothes, including shoes, in my car. That way when I leave my gym clothes at home, I can still work out after work because I have everything that I need. :cool2: The key is to remember to replace them with the stuff you left behind when you get home. ;)

Have a great day all! :goodvibes

Plan B, I don't really have a plan B but I've always been one that kind of goes with the flow so I can change direction as the wind changes direction. In personal life, DH and I are pretty good communicators so we can switch gears, tag team, what ever to get things done.
When things get really tough I tend to mentally switch into Navy Wife mode. I grew up as a Coast Guard brat, and married into the Navy. I can plan special ops movements with the best of them with my crew. We always say, especially with travel, that it's like commanding a small army.

I am one that likes to plan my contingencies within my main plan. But I too find myself facng those challenges from time to time. I luckily also fall into the creatively flexible category and have found that I am normally able to find a last minute solution to things that pop up.

That being said, this has helped me think through my plan a little more to try to identify more potential "pinch points" that could lead to need to adjust and to set up those little trapeze nets to help me.

I will apologize in advance for not touching base with people individually. Today is another ADHD day and my brain is just not functioning in a way that I can have specific conversations. I'm rolling with these bad boys though because I'm getting tons done!!

I was 100% OP yesterday with calories to spare. Today I plan to do the same.

I have been scale hopping every day. I know, I know, I shouldn't do that, but things are looking promising and it's only Tuesday so I'm using that as part of my motivation to keep moving quickly and efficiently.

I think, knock on wood, that I am getting a handle on this weight thing. While I did feel a little irritated because I really wanted ice cream yesterday, I did my research and 200-300 calories for 1/2 a cup of ice cream was just so no worth going over my calories! So I ate a sheet of graham crackers and they were just satisfying but for a fraction of the calories.

See I am learning!!!!

OK gotta get off this thing and keep moving. Dishes are calling my name! LOL

I think, for me, it's a matter of being able to think on my feet when a situation throws me off. My leftover salad in the fridge at work suddenly smells wonky and inedible? I can go grab Subway two blocks away or sushi one block away. I'm working at home and a serious case of the munchies hits? The fridge door is loaded with Pink Lady apples - my favorites for their tart, crunch factor.

And yet, sometimes, I'm just in a situation where there are a few great options and several not-so-great options, and so I compromise. I'll hit the carrot sticks and grape tomatoes and then go ahead and have a spoonful of that awesome-looking pasta salad. Or a brownie. I've found that I feel worse in these situations if I try to be all righteous and deprive myself, and my WW plan has room for this kind of compromise. Today is probably a day full of compromising - a work lunch (menu unknown) and a staff reception this evening (menu also unknown). I know I'm going to have to wing it, and so I've decided ahead of time not to beat myself up over whatever I end up deciding to eat.

It is a crazy Monday around here. Phone problems, computer problems, people dropping by to see the new office. I just realized that I am the pants I am wearing are blue, not black like I thought -- but my shoes are black so I am a bit gauche. :upsidedow

I'll be back later for more replies.

Sorry your Monday was crazy! Hoping Tuesday is better!

Well, 28 kindergarteners (just my son's class~and 3 classes went) will wear you out. We went to a farm and to a HUGE playground at a park. They had a blast, but I am so tired! And, 6 year olds say the funniest things. One girl told me they don't go to Wendy's very much anymore because it's getting too expensive. They do go to China Wok (buffet), though. And, I got schooled on Reeboks by a little boy. He told me what kind and color to get, as well as where to buy them. Kids are too cute. I almost wish I could freeze time. 9 and 6 are great ages. I hope I keep thinking that when they are 19 and 16

I'm glad I am finally caught up. Hello to all the losers from the last challenges and to the new losers! I can't wait to share the summer challenge with all of you. And, I love the name!

I just got DSs in bed. Now it's time to clean up around here and get to bed at a decent hour. DSs aren't done with school until Wed, so Dsis and I are walking at 9 am tomorrow. It's supposed to be chilly, so I hope I make it the whole hour without needing hot chocolate lol. I'll be back on after my walk, so have a good night.

Jill

That sounds like a fun day with the kids! Glad you were able to enjoy it and appreciate it.

I think I am going to pick all of these too. Tomorrow is my last day of school. We had our graduation dinner tonight for our 5th graders. It is so nice. The teachers serve the students and their parents then we have a slide show. My youngest son is graduating from his school on Wednesday and they do the same thing. I will be crying my eyes out. .... then my oldest graduates on Thursday. He is the valedictorian of his class and will be giving a speech. I am trying to hold myself together here .... :sad1: It is really happy times ... but hard to see my babies grow up.

Anywhoo .... The children's quotes are perfect for me. This is the way my whole work day revolves. ANYONE can do ANYTHING! I have the best job in the world.

Over the past few years I've devised many "mental" plans for dealing with various situations (parties, eating out, drive-thru emergencies). And I've learned to get right back OP with the very next meal if things do go totally wrong.

*************

Happy Tuesday friends! I'm gonna keep this short, as it is already 10:30 and I am feeling behind schedule! I dropped DD and hit the dump, so at least that is done. And I put some laundry in the dryer, but now have 4 loads waiting to be folded! Stupid laundry.

DS's bed is made, but I still need to make mine and DD's. Emails are read and answered and dishwasher is running, but that is it. I'm picking the kids up early for dentist visits today. And we got a last minute email yesterday that DS has a b.ball game today at 5:30 in the next town.

I think I will have to bring his b.ball gear AND DD's swim gear with me when I leave here at 2:15. Then from the dentist we will go directly to drop off DS for b.ball at 5pm (and hopefully DH can meet us there), then drive DD to the pool for 5:30, dash back to see DS's game and then schlep back to the Y to get DD (although she made need an earlier-than-usual pick-up, as she has a big research paper to finish up for tomorrow)..... keeping in mind that the baseball field and the Y are at least 35 minutes apart and the dentist is at least 30 minutes from the b.ball field. :sad2: I see another empty fuel tank in my future.

Won't do me a darn bit of good to throw the chicken in the crockpot this morning because no one will be here to eat it! I need to make up some sandwiches and call it a picnic night. I have NO deli meat in the house and the guys had tuna melts two nights ago, so they probably wouldn't look forward to that again. Dang it. I'll figure something out. Perhaps I'll bake the chicken this morning and DH, DD, and I could have cold chicken drumsticks and salad.... but I'd need to think of something else for DS.

Okay..... I'm rambling here. Off to be productive...............P

A quick drive-by post and then it's back to work!

In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room . . . in the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room. All the birds sing words and the flowers croooooon, in the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room!

I don't...unfortunately. But I'm the type to just take it as it comes at me. I'm so used to having to change what I do anyway because my work environment is like that. So I've just adapted to adapting, haha :upsidedow

Quote of the Day

When nothing goes right, go left.

Switch gears, look at things from a different vantage point, redirect, refocus.
Plan B.

I like this quote :)

Hi all! Hope your days are going well. I am just checking in real quick. My WW weigh in is tomorrow, so I am anxious to see if I lose this week! Stayed OP yesterday great...hoping for the same today. Off to clean! :)

I don't have a plan B. Day to day I can deal with little things thrown my way. If I were to do any traveling I would make a food/exercise plan for the time I was away from home. I actually have already done some thinking about our vacations in January and February next year.
Bigger life events you cant really prepare for.

Plan B is in full effect!!
I made my sandwich - Flat bread, mayo and turkey. Made my coffee, and was completely in my calorie count for lunch. Yeah, one bite and the turkey didn't taste so hot. So plan B, left over pasta and salmon salad and cucumbers.
A little over my calorie count but that was because of the coffee. But I'm still within a good range for dinner and I did some pretty good housework today.
I hope to get a run in this afternoon after the kids come home, if we get a break in the rain.

I did the same thing recently. Last years summer treat was dairy queen mini blizzards....i guess I thought it was fine because they were mini....but they are close to 400 calories. I saved calories the other night to have one and I realized I would have been much more satisfied if I would have ate some fresh watermelon and had a little bit more at lunch time. Its funny how our minds work huh?:goodvibes

It is a crazy Monday around here. Phone problems, computer problems, people dropping by to see the new office. I just realized that I am the pants I am wearing are blue, not black like I thought -- but my shoes are black so I am a bit gauche. :upsidedow

I'll be back later for more replies.

I hope today was better but at least you had on the same shoes it could have been worse you could have had one black and blue shoe.:lmao:

QOTD Tuesday- I dont really have a Plan B but I have found that lately since I am 100% committed to a healthier lifestyle it is easy to come up with a Plan B when Plan A fails vs. before I would just use Plan A failing as an excuse and give up vs. going to plan B. So I think it helps to just keep in my mind....if Plan A fails always make a plan B. NO EXCUSES FOR FAILURE!!!!

Things are pretty much on plan the past few days for me. I have an hour of exercise planned tonight. Dh and I have been exercising later at night after the kids are in bed. I am really not a morning person and I am finding that exercising at night is really working for me right now. It makes me stay on plan better. When I would exercise in the morning I often cheated on my eating plan for the day with the excuse of "its ok I workout today". We all know how easy it is to eat back those calories we burn plus some.

Ryan has a baseball game tonight unless it rains again. There are only 2 games left so I hope they can just play and get it over with. I think Im ready for it to be done.

Have a great day everyone!
