Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Team Challenge for Losers and Maintainers!!!

Congrats to all of our WISHer's out there this weekend!!!

Alice, I hope you have a blast next weekend. I wish I were going with you!!

:wave2:

I slept late today, and had a great night's sleep. I really needed that.

I know you are probably both done by now but GOOD LUCK and CONGRATULATIONS! :cheer2:

LTS Thank you so much! Congrats on the 5 lbs lost and your new decade! Woo hoo! Glad you got your cookie! Indulgences once in a while keep us SANE! Or something similar to that :)

Guess who is back? I come bearing a new PR! This time I finished in around 36 minutes (not sure on specific seconds yet) and last race I finished in 39! My stomach didn't cramp up this time, however as I was running down the football field to the finish I really thought I was going to throw up. I grabbed water and an apple at the end and that setlled it. Other than that, my sickness didn't cause too many problems besides the occasional sniffle. I was really impressed with some people that finished in probably 12 minutes! And of course, those parents that were pushing their kids in strollers, I hope I'm like that when I'm older!

Woo hoo! That is awesome! Congrats! I'm super proud of you!
Tigger813 Congrats on the soccer game and the time on the elliptical! That's great! :cool1:

I don't really understand that either. I am working out mostly to lose weight. I don't want to eat what I just worked to lose. I know I need some protein, carbs, etc, but I usually just take them out of my daily points, but just try to eat pretty soon after I exercise. I don't use my activity points, but my weight loss hasn't been astounding this challenge by any means, either. So, maybe someone who uses their activity points can chime in about their weight loss and how it affects it.

Hmm...I don't know about eating back exercise points, but I do know if a person is working out hard and isn't eating enough, they'll start to lose muscle and not burn fat. Their body will start fighting back by holding on to all the fat it can and they'll hit the dreaded "plateau" - so frustrating! :headache:

I've stopped worrying so much about the weight, per se, and am concentrating on adding muscle and getting lean. I'm spending less time exercising :yay: but have ramped up the intensity (bigger weights with shorter reps, crank up the resistance in spin class, etc.) and wow, in just 3 weeks time, it has really made a difference.

The more long and lean muscle I have, the higher metabolic rate I'll have - which means I'll burn more fat just sitting there while I'm not exercising, and I like that idea. :)

I absolutely ADORE that idea, too! :thumbsup2
:cool1:I'm packing for WDW! :cool1:

I'm so excited, I can barely sleep, or eat! I'll just have to watch that I don't all of a sudden get hunger attacks and start shoving just anything in my mouth.

That is so close! Have an absolute blast!! So cool!

Whoo Hoo! I finished my 5K! My goal was just to run the whole thing without walking ... it got tough at the end. Luckily it ended with a long downhill stretch. :goodvibes My time was 33 minutes. I felt really good about this since there were hills (I hate hills!) and I usually train on level ground.

Well, my sons kicked my (you know what! :rotfl:). This was their first 5K and my oldest placed 3rd overall, my middle son (the football player came in 4th in his age group), and my youngest came in 6th in his age group. My husband who only walked it was proud that he came in under an hour ... at 52 minutes :lmao:.

Wow, I had a lot of fun ... so did my kids. We might be signing up for another one soon!

Thank you everyone on here for inspiring me to exercise and run. A lot of this credit goes to you! :goodvibes

:cool1: Way to go!!!!!

Brrrrr .... it was cold today! :hyper: There were actually snow flurries while I was running. That is sad your yoga trainer is leaving. Hopefully you will find another one. :) I understand about not being able to do it at home. There is no peace and quiet here ....

:) I think I am hooked! Good luck on your 1/2 marathon. Let us know how it goes. I would love to try one of these ... but I think I need to build up to it. Maybe someday!

Awesome! Congratulations to you! That is amazing!

Way to go!! :thumbsup2 You are my hero!

My 1st 5K event is next week for the Expedition Everest Challenge :yay: but my next challenge is to 100% run a 5K event the night before my 50th birthday in June.
Have fun at Expedition Everest Challenge! You will rock it!!

QOTD Saturday: WHAT WOULD YOU PUT INTO YOUR FOOD EMERGENCY KIT? Pretend you are facing a a situation where you can't get to healthy food. What could you put into your Food Emergency Kit to keep in your car/purse/backpack/work desk to save you in such an emergency? Where would you most need a Food Emergency Kit?

I would most need a Food Emergency Kit in my car. I could put into it some 100 Calorie Packs, a Luna Bar (about 7 points but lots of protein and it fills me up), a piece of fruit, water, crystal light, and if I didn't forget about it and ate it that day, a piece of string cheese.

A kit like this could potentially help me not make a bad food decision when I miss a meal, or am out on the go and get the hungries!

Well the half marathon went very well this morning: 3:09:05. I PR'd by 10 minutes and 26 seconds despite having to walk the last 4 miles! I wanted to run so badly, but my left knee was in terrible pain. It started about mile 5, but I just ran through it, but at mile 9 it was hurting a lot worse and it didn't feel stable. I started walking and tried to run several times and I could only get 4 or 5 steps in before the outside of the left knee felt very bad and less than reliable. I had an IT band issue before and after Tinker Bell Half which was in January (not nearly as painful as this - its still difficult to walk or bend it!) and got a cortisone injection in March. I don't want to get another one because I think they can make your joints weak. Its not a fix- its just a band-aid to the problem of a tight ID band. Does anyone know any IT band fixes? I have another half marathon May 19 in Fargo and need to get it back together before then. I think the IT band is something that is pretty easy to get a handle on. I just don't know exactly what to do. I will go back and see my orthopedist ASAP. Hopefully he can get me in this week and get this thing figured out. I really think I would have broken 3 hours had this not happened. I was running very strong until mile 9. My friend that went with me got first in her age division and 2nd overall female! It was a good day! Now to get this leg massaged out a little bit and take a nap!

I hope everyone is having a FABULOUS OP day!

Melinda :)

At work I always have water, nuts, servings of applesauce & mandarin oranges, crackers, tuna in the pouches and laughing cow cheese wedges in my desk drawer. The food would be enough for me for 3 days, but not enough water in my personal stash. I also have canned soup and chili...but not sure if I would be able to find anywhere to cook.

At home we always have water and propane for the camp stove, but I need to work on rotating the food stock and making sure I have enough to last for a full 3 days.

Don't forget, in the event of an emergency you can drain the water from the hot water heater, as long as it is safe to enter the house/building to collect it.

Also, a good idea for work is to keep a pair of sturdy shoes handy.

Alice- It is my dream to do the EEC! I've done two 5Ks and want to really do Everest!

QOTD: My emergency food kit would include my favorite protein bars! I love the peppermint stick Luna bars and Herbalife Citrus Lemon! I have one of those everyday for lunch lately or at least when I'm working. I had one today as my morning snack at the soccer game!

Izzie wanted to watch the Muppets so we just started watching the movie! It's amazing how I start smiling the minute this movie starts! The songs are all so catchy too! I can watch this movie everyday!!!! It's sooooo positive! I love Amy Adams! Loved her since Enchanted!

Enjoying a Crystal Light margarita right now! It's got a bit of adult stuff in it but I've earned it!

We had homemade General gau's for dinner. I also made some parmesan chicken that we can put sauce and cheese on tomorrow for lunch. I also made brownies to take to our friend's house in the afternoon. I will try and sleep in a bit and then do my 50 minutes workout on the elliptical. I was going to do more today but ended up cleaning the kitchen and cooking. I'm trying to be as good as I can over the weekend so I don't have to play make up time during the week losing extra weight I put on. It's harder to get off this time! But I totally feel that I can lose 8 pounds in the next two months if I just stay focused and keep everything under control!

Time to enjoy the Muppets now!

TTFN :tigger:

Well, yesterday I got my giant chocolate chip cookie and it was absolutely worth the 8 points. I actually bought a few of them to bring home and share and last night I ate another one. :blush::rolleyes1 Another 8 points added to my WW tracker, but I had tons of points left for the week and still have more than I will most likely use today. Hopefully this whole WW formula of using the points really works and I don't get a surprise on the scale in the next few days. Going to try to keep the points low this weekend. DH and I may go out to dinner tonight so that could be a little tricky.

So I met my goal of 5 pounds down by the end of April! :cool1: And that puts me into a new "decade" :woohoo::yay::dance3: I don't really share my weight on here but let's just say I have put away my Rubik cube, walkman, shoulder pads and parachute pants and will be enjoying some flower power and disco dancing :dancer: on my way down this one ;) Have a goal to lose 5 pounds in May. I was planning to cancel my WW membership at the end of the initial 3 month time (end of May) and continue on my own but so far I am really having no problem with the tracking (love being able to do it online and on my ipod) and it is working great so I may continue with it. Guess I should figure out how much it costs. I would love to be into that hippie decade by summer :hippie:!

Have a great weekend everyone!

Congrats on the 5 lbs and I LOVE the way you described your decades :)

I'm glad I jumped on tonight to catch up and saw your post about WW. DSis and I just got off the phone and I am trying to convince her to try WW with me. I am all gung-ho and want to get started Monday (DS8's birthday party tomorrow, and I really want cake lol). I am going to be doing it online. I'm still doing my research, but I definitely need to do something different and I think this is the way to go.

:cool1:I'm packing for WDW! :cool1:

I'm so excited, I can barely sleep, or eat! I'll just have to watch that I don't all of a sudden get hunger attacks and start shoving just anything in my mouth.

Have a great time! I'm quite jealous and really hope to do a wdw race one day.

Congrats on your PR! So sorry about your knee and I hope it gets better before your next race.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
QOTD~I would keep water, nuts, mixed fruit in juice, protein bars, and some kind of cereal (Kashi maybe).
I have no idea why I hardly ever have time post. :lmao: Today did not start out how I planned. I woke up achy with a horrible sore throat. So I didn't go to yoga, but I did take the trainer a going away card and a giftcard. I came home and made 56 chocolate covered Oreos for DS to take to school for his birthday treat. This is what he wanted even though I don't know if he'll be able to eat them with his new braces! I made regular Oreos dipped in milk chocolate and golden Oreos dipped in vanilla chocolate.This way, each child can have two and DS also wants to give them to the secretary, the principal, his teacher, and the nurse. I've also done 3 loads of laundry, made dinner, and cleaned up dinner. I'm starting to feel achy again, so I think I am going to take something and head to bed early again.
I mentioned above, but I think I'll be joining the WW community in a couple days. I need to change something because my eating has been out of control. I have 2 friends (although they live in Chicago now) that have both done WW and were super successful, so it's so motivating. I am still doing some research and I'll be looking here on the dis, also.
I have another busy day tomorrow so I'll probably be on after DS's birthday dinner.
:cool1: GREAT JOB! That is an amazing drop in time, especially with walking.
Have you chatted with Rose&Mike here about IT band issues? She was doing a lot with that last year. Also you might want to see if there are any Sports Medicine doctors in your area. It was a sports med guy that finally found a solution to my foot issues and got me back on my feet. I think sometimes they are better able to help with the issues as they relate to running and help you with your workout routine and help you get back to full power.
Went out to Friday's for dinner. I have to say that I don't really understand the nutrition information that restaurants put out. Somehow what they say really doesn't seem to jive with common sense. I had the appetizer portion of the Mediterranean Beef Kabobs. According to their nutrition data it is 15 points.
But it consists of:
about 3 oz of lean beef: 3 points
Garlic lime slaw: 3 points for a full side serving but this was probably only 1/3 of that so I estimate it at really only 1 point
pita: 2 points
tzatziki sauce- 2 points for 1/2 cup, this was only about 1/4 so 1 point
That only adds up to 7 points. Now I do have to account for the meat marinade which probably has oil in it but by the time you look at how much is actually on the meat and how much burns off during cooking about 1 T is a good estimate, so that adds 3 points-- 10 points for the whole meal-- where are they getting the extra 5 points? The pita was dry so it didn't have any added oil or butter.
The dinner entree is 40 points!! :scared1: But it is hard to really accurately count it for me because if I had ordered I would have subbed the rice it comes with which is 11 points just for it, and probably had the broccoli instead of the veggies which have an oily sauce on them for a total change of 14 points making the meal about 26 points (a full days worth of points!). But then it is really down to the same meat, probably 5-6 oz so 6 points (plus marinade) and the sauce 2 points (which I don't eat) and the pita, 2 points, and I would probably get the slaw for 3 points. Again, common sense says that is really only about 15-18 points-- where are the extra points coming from? Is there really that much hidden fat and carbs in restaurant food?
:cheer2: :woohoo: Congratulations on the PR!!! That is great.
I don't really get the concept of eating back exercise calories-- or in weight watchers using activity points to eat more. I understand that if you are doing a major workout that you need to up your intake to cover that, but if you workout and burn 500 calories then it seems sort of counter intuitive to me to go ahead and eat 500 calories more if you are trying to lose weight. DH goes to a 60 min. high intensity spinning class 3 days a week. I have told him to add some extra carbs and protein to his snack before he goes and lunch afterwards. But he isn't eating 1000 extra calories which is the amount he burns some days. He usually has some extra cheese and crackers and an extra cup of rice.
I know a part of exercise is to get fit and be healthy but for me, if I am going to exercise then my goal is to burn calories to further my weight loss goal. ( I hate exercise with a white hot passion!) I have no desire to go out there and walk for 30 mins, earn 3 activity points and then eat a 3 point muffin. I would rather just skip the muffin and the exercise! :rotfl: I would hope that if I am able to earn 3 Activity points per day and I stay with in my daily and weekly points that I will see better results at the end of the week.
And while I do agree-- and in fact know -- that just getting off your butt and doing anything-- cooking dinner, grocery shopping, house work, yard work etc can be counted as activity, I have a problem calling it exercise and using that as an excuse to eat more.
I would love a better explanation of a rationale behind eating back exercise calories/points when trying to lose weight.
Thank you!
I agree with you completely. I can understand eating back something, especially if you've burned a lot but if I do 30 day shred for about 160 calories, I feel like I worked too hard to waste it on food. I personally feel like I've lost a lot of fat and I am much much stronger. I don't know how I would've lost muscle. However, according to some of these posts I should be eating 1750 calories a day for weight loss and I am only on 1350. I guess I do lose about 1lb a week so if I'd eat 1750 with my exercise, I may lose .5 or maintain. However I never felt deprived at 1350-1500.
I guess the best post is just to follow what your body says. If I'm hungry I will eat something and if not I won't worry about it. I feel really healthy so until I find out I'm losing muscle or getting sick then I will keep on trucking with what works for me.
I also understand how you feel with activities. I'm not on WW so I don't have activity points, but sometimes people consider daily chores or work exercise. For me I have to have a set time where I'm working hard and sweating with the goal of burning calories. I feel like I'm not burning enough doing daily things to consider it exercise. And would also feel like it was an excuse to eat more.
Hmm...I don't know about eating back exercise points, but I do know if a person is working out hard and isn't eating enough, they'll start to lose muscle and not burn fat. Their body will start fighting back by holding on to all the fat it can and they'll hit the dreaded "plateau" - so frustrating! :headache:
The more long and lean muscle I have, the higher metabolic rate I'll have - which means I'll burn more fat just sitting there while I'm not exercising, and I like that idea. :)
Thanks for your input!
I haven't hit that plateau yet. I've been adding a little bit more to my calories though. I don't really know what is considered working out hard. I burn around 150-300 which for me, sounds perfect and I don't feel like I need to really refuel. However, I'll notice some people will be burning 500-700+ and are about the same size so I'm sure they should be eating at least something small. When I get to my utilmate goal of about 130 (or more, depending on how I look and feel) then I'll start to work towards gaining more muscle.
I am so jealous. Have a great time. Let us know what is new and exciting!
That is awesome for your first 5k. Way to go!! I am impressed you ran the whole thing, I'm still working on that.
Congrats to your sons, that's awesome!
When I am studying or working on homework I want to eat everything and I just don't care, so I can relate. Its ok to have an off day, don't beat yourself up about it!
-----
My plan was to go to the gym and do my new workout, but i'm not going for a couple reasons.
1) I had to be up at 5::30am and i did not sleep well! I'm exhausted.
2) I'm still so SORE! I worked muscles i haven't used in a long time, i'd rather give them another rest day and be able to walk tomorrow, than force it and not be able to walk for the next week
3) my stomach is not feeling 100%, got boxed lunches at the history even today and may have eaten something that had dairy
4) HOMEWORK. Enough said.
Good news, according to the schedule i made for myself, I am mostly on track for homework. Maybe only slightly behind. I think i'll be ok but i will feel a lot less stressed when im done.
The history event was really great, i was really impressed with all the work the kids put in and it was a great experience!
The discussion on calories is interesting. I've never really understood it. I need to get back to tracking calories, because im either way under or way over. When i was tracking i was at 1200 a day, but i hardly ever ate back excercise calories. When i was sick i think i was as low as 800 to 900 a day, right now i'm really not sure. again i need to start tracking again.
Now i might go take a nap then really get some work done so i can stop stressing. im worried about the amount of stuff i have to take on the cruise. its not going to fit in my suitcase
It isn't so bad when it's about a subject I like. But general courses are so boring and definitely a pain. I notice that when I'm doing homework or reading a book I tend to get fidgety. I need to find something to do with my hands so I always end up biting my nails or trying to find snacks to eat. It's a bad habit.
Hope you get your homework done! Good luck on your new workout.
Woo hoo! That is awesome! Congrats! I'm super proud of you!
I don't really understand that either. I am working out mostly to lose weight. I don't want to eat what I just worked to lose. I know I need some protein, carbs, etc, but I usually just take them out of my daily points, but just try to eat pretty soon after I exercise. I don't use my activity points, but my weight loss hasn't been astounding this challenge by any means, either. Awesome job on the half-marathon! You are very inspiring! Mine is in about 20 days. I'm incredibly nervous, I don't really know what I signed up for. :duck: I figure I can walk if I must and just try to get as far as possible!
QOTD: I have a bottle of water and a bag of peanuts in my car, mostly for real emergency purposes. But I always take a snack in my purse to school, lately it has been the belvita breakfast biscuits. I have to take something because I have a specific class where I eat and it keeps me from buying bad things from the vending machines. If I was going to make an emergency box I'd probably put in water, nuts, fruit, vegan jerky, belvita, or cereal.
Good SUnday morning everyone.
Yesterday was a true adventure for us. We went to cosign on ds's new apartment. We had a pretty easy drive down, picked him up went to the apartment buildings. We had to read, sign and initial 19 pages of papers. Got to see where his apartment is but couldn't go in. He moves in on Tuesday and we will see the apartment next Sat when we move his bed and other stuff in.
His dorm is built over stores and one new one had just opened last week so we went to eat there. When we came out dh noticed that my one tire was pretty low. We found a Firestone which is where we always take our car and they could take us but they were pretty busy. We had a 2 and 1/2 hour wait for our car. We walked for a while and hit some stores and then picked up some newspaper and sat and waited for the car. We still had an hour and a half ride back but at least we didn't break down on the turnpike and were able to fix it before we started home.
Congrats to all the BL's who had a great event yesterday whether is was a great race or a great weigh in.
Have ahappy and helathy day.
Off in 5 to run our 5K memorial run today. Just wanted to pop in and say, hey!!
Managed to begrudgingly convince DH and the 2 littlest kids to go too. They are not happy!
OK, gotta run! Will post and update later!
Good afternoon everyone! It's been too long since I've been here, and it shows in my motivation. Just busy I guess, post vacation binging, yada, yada, yada. No excuses, but no losses either. Just wanted to say hello, and congratulate all the top losers, and everyone sticking with this challenge.
Congrats to those who have done races too!! Way to go!!
Hugs to those in need, and a big thank you to all the coaches, Janis, CC, and Sue who keep this challenge going.:hug:
Good SUnday morning everyone.
Yesterday was a true adventure for us. We went to cosign on ds's new apartment. We had a pretty easy drive down, picked him up went to the apartment buildings. We had to read, sign and initial 19 pages of papers. Got to see where his apartment is but couldn't go in. He moves in on Tuesday and we will see the apartment next Sat when we move his bed and other stuff in.
His dorm is built over stores and one new one had just opened last week so we went to eat there. When we came out dh noticed that my one tire was pretty low. We found a Firestone which is where we always take our car and they could take us but they were pretty busy. We had a 2 and 1/2 hour wait for our car. We walked for a while and hit some stores and then picked up some newspaper and sat and waited for the car. We still had an hour and a half ride back but at least we didn't break down on the turnpike and were able to fix it before we started home.
Congrats to all the BL's who had a great event yesterday whether is was a great race or a great weigh in.
Have ahappy and helathy day.
At least you noticed the tire before you got on the turnpike! It sounds like DS is living in a pretty cool area. Is it a big college town?
Off in 5 to run our 5K memorial run today. Just wanted to pop in and say, hey!!
Managed to begrudgingly convince DH and the 2 littlest kids to go too. They are not happy!
OK, gotta run! Will post and update later!
Have a great race!
Ok, I'm taking the plunge and signing up for WW online. I ordered some of the info on ebay (it was a lot that came with a dining out companion, everyday food companion, calculator, journal, stickers, an organizer, coupon book, and a cookbook). I think I will wait until it comes to actually sign up online. Or maybe I will sign up tonight and read up on all the info. I also want to get the WW ap for my phone. I am super excited because I talked to my friend in Chicago and she said she highly recommends the program. She lost 40 pounds between last February and October. She went off WW for a couple months and just signed back up a couple weeks ago. She gave me lots of good info and advice. I don't really know what's a good amount of weight for me to lose (realistically). I know I want to lose at least 10-15 more pounds. I hope this is the kick in the butt I need :)
I have to head off to finish laundry and ironing before we head out the door for DS's birthday dinner (his birthday is actually Thursday). My mom, sister's family, and in-laws are all coming. He is pretty excited. I can't believe he is turning 9 already! Time sure does fly.
I'll try to check back in later tonight. Have a great day!
Race went ok. about 70% of it was uphill, steep uphill. I was sort of prepared for that only because I've been doing inclines on the treadmill, I didn't know we were running up that hill though! I walked most of it, walked the first mile, then occasional jogs to catch up to DH and DD.
DD went with me and she did ok, whined the whole way but ran up with DH a little bit so it broke the tediousness of it.
I felt pretty good though, my legs were still tight the first 2 miles as always but it wasn't as bad because we went uphill. Flat kills me right now so I need to work on that. My hydration was good. When we went to Disney last year I drained every ounce of water I could get my hands on but today I had one bottle with me and only needed 1/2 of it.
so times as follows:
DS15 15th place 21:33 (PR)
DS11 119th place 31:42 (So impressed with this!!!!)
DS10 196th place 49:30
DH 204th place 51:01 (walked the whole way with me and DD)
DD6 213th place 51:46
Me 214th place 51:46
I have my work cut out for me though if I want to do a Disney race next year. I need to lose some more weight and work on my strength training. But my pace was 16:40, I think I can shave 1:00 - 1:40 off that by January.
Hi all,
Didn't do super well today. Spent the afternoon with friends. I didn't over do it but definitely ate and drank more than I should have. Skipped workouts today. Will get up at 6 tomorrow to do the elliptical for about an hour. Will hopefully get in another workout in the afternoon.
Ash is having a mole removed from her next at 10:30 tomorrow morning. We will take Izzie to school, take our change to the bank to be deposited, go to Market Basket and then come home and drop off the food before heading to the appt. After that we will head straight home and take it easy for awhile. Hope to workout then. Gotta pick up Izzie and 3:15 and then take her to dancing at 4. While she is dancing I will run to the grocery store for some things I saw on sale. Not sure if Ash will go to soccer tomorrow night. It will depend on how tomorrow goes and how she's feeling. We also have to mix up the dough for her Finland Gingerbread Cookies. I need to look over the recipe again.
Kids just went to bed and Brian and I are watching Amazing Race. Just ordered some Crocs for Ash and me from 6pm.com. Up to 70% plus free shipping! Really cheap slide on sandals and a regular pair. I get email from a great site called Frugal Girls.com and they have great deals! Hoping to order some sneakers from them if I can't find what I want at the store. Check it out...so worth it. I get a lot of free kindle books from the email I get from Frugal Girls!
Back to my water!
TTFN :tigger:
Congrats on your PR! So sorry about your knee and I hope it gets better before your next race.
Thank you so much :)
:cool1: GREAT JOB! That is an amazing drop in time, especially with walking.
Have you chatted with Rose&Mike here about IT band issues? She was doing a lot with that last year. Also you might want to see if there are any Sports Medicine doctors in your area. It was a sports med guy that finally found a solution to my foot issues and got me back on my feet. I think sometimes they are better able to help with the issues as they relate to running and help you with your workout routine and help you get back to full power.
Went out to Friday's for dinner. I have to say that I don't really understand the nutrition information that restaurants put out. Somehow what they say really doesn't seem to jive with common sense. I had the appetizer portion of the Mediterranean Beef Kabobs. According to their nutrition data it is 15 points.
But it consists of:
about 3 oz of lean beef: 3 points
Garlic lime slaw: 3 points for a full side serving but this was probably only 1/3 of that so I estimate it at really only 1 point
pita: 2 points
tzatziki sauce- 2 points for 1/2 cup, this was only about 1/4 so 1 point
That only adds up to 7 points. Now I do have to account for the meat marinade which probably has oil in it but by the time you look at how much is actually on the meat and how much burns off during cooking about 1 T is a good estimate, so that adds 3 points-- 10 points for the whole meal-- where are they getting the extra 5 points? The pita was dry so it didn't have any added oil or butter.
The dinner entree is 40 points!! :scared1: But it is hard to really accurately count it for me because if I had ordered I would have subbed the rice it comes with which is 11 points just for it, and probably had the broccoli instead of the veggies which have an oily sauce on them for a total change of 14 points making the meal about 26 points (a full days worth of points!). But then it is really down to the same meat, probably 5-6 oz so 6 points (plus marinade) and the sauce 2 points (which I don't eat) and the pita, 2 points, and I would probably get the slaw for 3 points. Again, common sense says that is really only about 15-18 points-- where are the extra points coming from? Is there really that much hidden fat and carbs in restaurant food?
Thanks so much! No I have not spoken to Rose&Mike about IT band issues, but I definitely will contact her! It would be so nice to get advice from someone with first hand experience! Thank you :) I had a similar experience with WW points being higher than I thought they should be. I made a smoothie recipe that should have been basically like 1 point for the almond milk but the rest was just fruit, but when I put it all in the WW Recipe Builder it said it was like 5 or 6 points! I don't understand that.
Awesome job on the half-marathon! You are very inspiring! Mine is in about 20 days. I'm incredibly nervous, I don't really know what I signed up for. :duck: I figure I can walk if I must and just try to get as far as possible!
Thank you very much! You will do just fine! I remember that feeling at the Donald Half in Jan 2011. I just wanted to stay ahead of that sweeper! I was so relieved to get the medal around my neck and know I had done it! Just stay positive and focused and when you have to walk, make it a power walk! Bend your arms at the elbow and pump them back and forth, and my trainer says to pretend you are grabbing at ropes and they are pulling you along. I tried it at my race yesterday when I had to walk, and I think it really helped me feel like I was gaining momentum! I love those little tricks!
Gosh, glad you got your tire fixed when you did and didn't get stranded by the road somewhere! Congrats to your son!
Woo hoo!
Good afternoon everyone! It's been too long since I've been here, and it shows in my motivation. Just busy I guess, post vacation binging, yada, yada, yada. No excuses, but no losses either. Just wanted to say hello, and congratulate all the top losers, and everyone sticking with this challenge.
Congrats to those who have done races too!! Way to go!!
Hugs to those in need, and a big thank you to all the coaches, Janis, CC, and Sue who keep this challenge going.:hug:
Glad to see you! :)
My side of my knee and leg is still very sore today. I need to call tomorrow to see about getting some physical therapy this week. Congrats to everyone on all your successes, exercise, and non-scale victories!!!
SUNDAY QOTD Exercise Emergency Kit
We all have times come up when we cannot get in our planned workout. What can we have at the ready to squeeze in a workout when our plans might not work out or our time is cut short?
SUNDAY QOTD Exercise Emergency Kit
We all have times come up when we cannot get in our planned workout. What can we have at the ready to squeeze in a workout when our plans might not work out or our time is cut short?
I have had times come up when I couldn't get in my planned workout. Many times, in fact. Whether its a kid that gets sick in the middle of the night and my sleep schedule gets thrown off, or if I get too much piled on me last minute during the day and something has to give. Usually that something is my schedule. I get frustrated when I can't do what I have planned. Working out makes me feel better after a stressful day too. Here is what I do to get in an "Emergency Workout" when my schedule has gone haywire: I leave my handweights, kettle bells, yoga mat, etc out. I used to put them away so they wouldn't be an eyesore in the living room, but guess what? I would never get them out when I needed to...if I had to get them out and THEN workout, it wouldn't happen. I need to see them, in my face, and then I will use them. :rotfl: Just getting all the stuff out is a workout! Also, I try to workout first thing in the morning, before my day gets too crazy. More often than not, if I wait, my workout gets cancelled, or I am so tired I'm not that into it.
I had a similar experience with WW points being higher than I thought they should be. I made a smoothie recipe that should have been basically like 1 point for the almond milk but the rest was just fruit, but when I put it all in the WW Recipe Builder it said it was like 5 or 6 points! I don't understand that.
That one confuses me too but I sort of understand why it does that (but not why they don't just fix it!). When you use the recipe builder even though it tells you it is 0 points I think it does the total math based on the actual nutrition information. So basically it doesn't recognize an apple as being 0 points, but as being a food with X amount of carbs and fiber (and protein and fat) so it adds up the total fat, carb, fiber, protein for every ingredient and then figure the points on that. Does that make sense? So when I do a recipe now I just leave out the free ingredients and only put in the ingredients that have a point value.
Had a pretty good weekend. Finally actually told DH that I have been doing WW-- he pretty much knew since he got the cc bill and asked if that was a legit charge and he has seen over my shoulder when I was on the site. But he is sensitive enough not to ask me about it and knew that I would tell him when I was ready. He got the WW barcode scanner app for his Droid phone (my ipod touch doesn't have a camera) so I could play with it! It was kind of fun, but mostly useless. Overall I think the WW database is pretty useless. I am really surprised at the very common things that aren't in it. I do a lot of just entering the nutrition info myself to figure things out.
Ready for another week of work. Made some Tuscan Tuna Salad to eat on Romaine leaves, some broccoli soup and have my salad in a jar all ready for the week. I didn't get time to make my breakfast muffins so will probably just grab a vitatop or egg muffin that I made and put in the freezer last week.
Have a great week!
Hey guys! Remember me? :)
Sorry I've been MIA for a while. Not that alot has been going on; I guess I've gotten lazy with checking in and tracking everything. But I've gotten better about it in the last couple of days so I'll try to get back to posting here regularly soon.
Just a quick update: Still soda-free after 4 months except for a Sprite I had last week for an upset stomach. I also have (unintentionally) cut out most red meat from my diet in favor of fish and veggies; Idk, I just don't have the taste much for it anymore. (Had a squid salad last week which was quite good. :goodvibes ) I've dropped a dress and jeans size (was in a getting-tight 16, now in a loose fitting 14) and down a size in t-shirts (tight large to comfortable medium)I also dropped another 2lbs this week, putting me 6lbs away from reaching the halfway point in my weight loss journey!
But I just find I have no motivation to do anything... I'm still doing my 3 times a week at the gym (up to 25 minutes on elliptical now), paid careful attention to my eating and I'm guessing I'm doing something right cause the weight's still coming off. But I've noticed (especially at the gym) that my heart's just not in it. I mainly started going for the possibility of doing the Princess 1/2 and I still go and work up a sweat, but I can't seem to get any faster and after a mile or two, I'm done... I really don't know if I'm going to do the Princess this year or not... Plus I've received a few comments from my friends that while they were not meant to be hurtful by any means, still hurt nonetheless and that I've had to work through. But I'm going to be okay.
Besides, I think this may be PMS talking.... ;)
And in non-weight related news: I've pretty much spent this weekend re-awakening my love of 'Andrew Lloyd Webber's The Phantom of the Opera' by watching the 25th anniversary video recording :lovestruc and the sequel to 'Phantom 'that everyone dreaded and hoped wouldn't happen; 'Love Never Dies' (The Australian Cast released a performance that's been posted on Youtube) which was exactly what I expected and what everyone thought it would be. No offense to the actors; they were quite good. I just don't care much for sequels since they usually aren't as good as the original... But I did like the ending and a few of the song including one called 'Til I Hear You Sing' which is absolutely gorgeous. :cloud9:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9s2k1_Gkcfg (Definitely worth a listen if you're a Phantom fan) :lovestruc
Can't think of much else to say and this post is long enough as it is. So I bid you all good night and :worship: if you've read this whole post.
;)
