Biggest Loser "No Excuses" 2012 Team Challenge for Losers and Maintainers!!!

:wave2: Hi Everyone!

Just a quick post. I am about to run my first 5K .... I am so excited. For those of you who were on Team Donald, you might remember me posting about it. It is called the Superhero Run for abused children. My whole family is running/walking it. Wish me luck! My only goal is to run the whole thing. Not sure if this will happen. I can run a little over 2 miles without stopping ... but not 3.2 miles.

My friend picked up our race day numbers and we all got a free cape for racing (they are trying to break the record for wearing the most capes at a 5K). I was thinking of dressing up to embarrass my sons .... but, I didn't have enough time to put something together so they are safe!:lmao:

I will let you know how it goes tomorrow! :goodvibes

Ya! :yay: I earned this today on the Dis BL challenge: :wishfifteen :yay:

Last night was the final weigh in for the biggest loser at my gym; I'd lost a total of 22lbs since the start of that challenge which started January 26th. :)

Congrats!!!!! Keep up the good work!

Client canceled for tomorrow so it looks like I get to freeze at the first soccer game and then hopefully be much better for the 2nd game. Ash is dog-sitting in the afternoon.

Kids and I sorted through some of our cruise clothes! Have to do this a few more times to make the suitcases as light as possible!

Good morning my favorite bunch of losers! My name is Melinda and I will be your coach this week! I hope we can all have a great week, stay OP, lose lots of weight, and really connect with and learn from each other. Who knows more about this journey than this fabulous group of people we have found that are on this journey right here, right now, with us? I am very glad I found this Challenge, and personally can't wait for the next one!

QOTD FRIDAY: What motivates you more to stay OP and work harder: seeing pictures of yourself when you were heavier, or seeing a picture of someone closer to your goal weight?

Thanks for coaching!

QOTD~I think both. I look back at pics and think, "ugh." I do not want to head back there! I also enjoy looking for new clothes in smaller sizes in magazines.

Have a great run! It's going to be pretty chilly here in PA. Keep warm and run fast :)

I am going to have to post more tomorrow. I am not feeling well (sore throat, runny nose) and I am super tired and ready for bed. I am going to 9 am yoga tomorrow and saying goodbye to the trainer that I've known for about 8 years. She's retiring and yoga will be her last class. And, it'll be my last yoga class for awhile at the gym. Since the weather's nicer, they don't have Saturday yoga during the summer. The trainer gave me a recommendation for a dvd, but I'll never find the peace and quiet in my house to do it unless it's 10 pm!! At least with the nicer weather, I will be able to get out running on the weekends. I'm looking for a 5k to sign up for to get my butt motivated. Anyhow, I am off to bed. Have a great night.

LisaCongrats on being a samer! Some weeks that is all I can ask for. Some weeks, in fact, I'd love to be a samer! lol. Even when I have worked hard, and still haven't lost any, I can at least know I didn't GAIN any! Way to go! Maybe that means next week will be a big WHOOOSH for you! Here's some pixie dust, hoping that happens: pixiedust:

Trinaweena Awesome on the personal training! You will get results! I love it!

Buffy Yes, by all means, go do that race! Don't stress about the weigh in. Just be extra vigilant this week with eating and getting your workouts in and it will happen! I tend to have a good week, then a not so good week. My goal is to try and have at least two good weeks in a row and see what happens!

Disneywedding2010 Congrats on the new shorts! Woo hoo! And being so close to ONEderland! :cool1: I hope the 5K went well for your Sparkpeople challenge. for all the tough emotions this week. You are so strong! :grouphug: Remember, we are always here. Good luck dealing with the rental property in TX. We had to deal with a rental property in NM while we lived in KY & AL and it was not fun! We had someone burn up our kitchen, AND paint a giant 10' x 10' Denver Broncos mural on the wall. :mad: AND... our property manager sounds very much like your realtor.. it took forever for them to tell us. :confused3

Karen pixiedust: on wearing the skirt soon! That's a great idea- leaving it in the kitchen. I hope your cold gets better. Don't worry about missed workouts. Just hit it hard next week and diligently eat well. Have fun at your crop and great idea packing your own food.

Kayla yessss! Pinterest for motivation! I love it!

LTS Its awesome to have someone at work to talk WW with. I agree- having a live, local person you can chat with is great. You can visually see their successes, and share yours, and also be in the know about when local stores have sales on WW friendly items. :cool1:

Mary Poppins Awesome on your first 5K! You will rock it! And what a great cause! Please do let us know how it goes. Be warned: races are addictive!

Can I go ahead and confess before I get back to work and bed? :scared:

No exercise today. I'm as pale as a ghost and have been sitting on my bedroom floor doing algebra homework for 3 hours. I watched Lilo & Stitch and Tarzan and only managed to get 3 problems done. (I never took a break, they took forever and kept coming out wrong. :sad2:) Inbetween that time I had mini cadbury eggs, a skinny cow chocolate bar and 2 bowls of strawberries. I went over calories by about 300 today? That's the most ever!

I'm not feeling too bad about it, as I can make up for it later. And I guess if I was to "binge" on something, might as well be strawberries! ;)

Back to your regularly scheduled DISing. Have a great night!

Hopefully you will find a new trainer you like before too long. Until then enjoy the nice weather outside. Good luck finding a race! I hope your cold gets better very quickly!

----------------------------
Well, I have been watching some old episodes of Biggest Loser for some motivation. This week I managed to watch all of Season 8 (they use the BodyBugg) and the first episode of Season 1. Season 1-Episode 1 seemed a little hokey to me, but I need to watch a little more of it. It was weird with Caroline Rhea as the host instead of Alison. And the people were allowed to just eat lots of junk food if they wanted - not to gain a prize or power in the game, but they just had it sitting out as temptation. I read online (so of course it has to be true :rotfl:) that the winner from Season 1 gained all his weight back except about 10-12 pounds. That's sad!

Tomorrow morning I have to get up at the early hour of 2:30 a.m. and leave by 3:25 a.m. to go to a half marathon I am running! It starts at 8:00, but I live 3 hours away and have to pick up my packet between 6:30 and 7:00, then ride a bus to the start. Normally, I would go the night before, but this race is out in the boondocks, so no abundance of places to stay. There was this person I could have stayed with, a friend of a friend of a friend, whom I had never met, and he's a dude. No offense to males anywhere, but ... no thanks. I'll sleep in my own comfy bed and just get up super early. My trainer is going with me, and she is running it as well. If she wins it tomorrow it will be her 4th year in a row as top female! I am just hoping to finish, and after that I hope to beat my Tinker Bell Half Marathon time which was 3:19:32 (PR). The weather right now is calling for some snow/rain mixed with temps in the 30's. I hope thats WRONG! I like running when its sunny and in the 30's, but snow and rain and 30's feels like a whole different kind of day. I had fleeting thoughts earlier this week of skipping this race alltogether (even before I knew of the weather) but DH reeled me back in by saying: "If you do that this time, you'll be more likely to skip a race you've registered for in the future". Excellent point. I will go no matter what. I've just had a lot going on: end of school is in sight for kids, so trying to keep their grades up, lots of trips happening, and DD17 just had her second collision with another car :mad:. She is a bright, normally responsible girl. What the heck? It was almost the straw that broke the camel's back this week, but you know--if I don't do this race, then I have REALLY been defeated, and I just decided, with the help and support of my husband, that its going to take a whole heck of a lot more than the events of this week to keep me from going over that start line tomorrow morning! Life is just hard sometimes, it just is. But I will feel so much better after I run tomorrow. That I can be sure of!

REMINDER Get those weights in to DVCCruiser76, and your Healthy Habits in to CCLOVESDIS!

Melinda :)

Good luck!! Sounds like fun!

:hug::hug:KAYLA: Hugs to you! We've all been there! You made an excellent decision with the strawberries- great choice! And don't worry about the 300 cals over- just get in an extra walk or some form of exercise tomorrow and drink lots of water! You've still got this!!!

Thank you! 300 isn't too bad, but it felt out of control for me! I guess I was just tired of being so on plan and I didn't feel great so I thought "Hmph! I'm sick, I will eat whatever I want!" :rotfl:

Melinda- Wow, half marathon! Good luck!!

Morning everyone.

Up earlier because I have to leave in an hour and a half for...my 5k! I'm still nervous, even though I have done one before.

Good news is that I feel better today! Not completely gone, but I'm not too tired so hopefully I can make it through today easily. Maybe this is the benefits of better health? :cool1:

Hope you all have a fabulous day.

:wave2:

I slept late today, and had a great night's sleep. I really needed that.

I know you are probably both done by now but GOOD LUCK and CONGRATULATIONS! :cheer2:

I would love to see pictures of the all the capes! I don't know a lot about running but it seems to me that a cape would cause drag and affect your times though.

Last night was the final weigh in for the biggest loser at my gym; I'd lost a total of 22lbs since the start of that challenge which started January 26th. :)

:cheer2: Congratulations! Why don't you put up the 20 lb clippie?

Well, yesterday I got my giant chocolate chip cookie and it was absolutely worth the 8 points. I actually bought a few of them to bring home and share and last night I ate another one.:rolleyes1 Another 8 points added to my WW tracker, but I had tons of points left for the week and still have more than I will most likely use today. Hopefully this whole WW formula of using the points really works and I don't get a surprise on the scale in the next few days. Going to try to keep the points low this weekend. DH and I may go out to dinner tonight so that could be a little tricky.

So I met my goal of 5 pounds down by the end of April! :cool1: And that puts me into a new "decade" :woohoo::yay::dance3: I don't really share my weight on here but let's just say I have put away my Rubik cube, walkman, shoulder pads and parachute pants and will be enjoying some flower power and disco dancing :dancer: on my way down this one ;) Have a goal to lose 5 pounds in May. I was planning to cancel my WW membership at the end of the initial 3 month time (end of May) and continue on my own but so far I am really having no problem with the tracking (love being able to do it online and on my ipod) and it is working great so I may continue with it. Guess I should figure out how much it costs. I would love to be into that hippie decade by summer :hippie:!

Probably going to the mall today. I desperately need some new undergarments. Not sure what size so I will get refitted to see if there are any changes. DH wanted to go out for dinner last night but I already had dinner planned so we may go out tonight.

Have a great weekend everyone!

lovetoscrap- Congrats on the 5lbs, that is awesome! Mini goals for a month are great.

Guess who is back? I come bearing a new PR! This time I finished in around 36 minutes (not sure on specific seconds yet) and last race I finished in 39! My stomach didn't cramp up this time, however as I was running down the football field to the finish I really thought I was going to throw up. I grabbed water and an apple at the end and that setlled it. Other than that, my sickness didn't cause too many problems besides the occasional sniffle. I was really impressed with some people that finished in probably 12 minutes! And of course, those parents that were pushing their kids in strollers, I hope I'm like that when I'm older!

Overall, I liked this race better than the last. More people, volunteers were very supportive, and the fact that I did better. It seemed to go faster since it was through residential areas. Great time! :goodvibes:

On a side note I have been reading and reading threads on MFP about eating back exercise calories and my brain is overheating from the mess of it all. I always eat about 1350-1500 a day and then workout around 150-400 calories. I usually eat none or 1/2 of my exercise calories back. Some say that not eating them back makes you lose muscle, some say it doesn't matter, some say eat half. Ack. I've lost really good numbers and never ate all of my exercise calories back so I'll probably stay like that. I just want to know the truth!

TTS- COngrats!

Kayla- Great job on the run! That's my PB as well! Not sure if I will get to run one this fall as it may be the same weekend as the NE Dismeet that we help plan!

Just back from Ash and Brian's soccer game! We won 4-1! Ash had a goal and another girl had a hat trick! SWEET! Ash was so psyched! SHe had come out of the game earlier complaining of being out of breath. She needed an allergy pill and forgot to take one this morning. I have put extras in the soccer bag so she has them for every game! She had told me this morning that she was scoring a goal this morning! Glad she was able to go back in! It was quite chilly and breezy which may have been affecting her as well!

We're all eating lunch now and then we have to go let the dog that we are watching out!

I did 50 minutes on the elliptical this morning! I'm down .4 for the week. Would've been and could've been more but a loss is a loss! Need another 8 lbs gone in the next 7 weeks! Gonna be pretty good the rest of the weekend!

Lunch is ready!

TTFN :tigger:

:cheer2: :woohoo: Congratulations on the PR!!! That is great.

I don't really get the concept of eating back exercise calories-- or in weight watchers using activity points to eat more. I understand that if you are doing a major workout that you need to up your intake to cover that, but if you workout and burn 500 calories then it seems sort of counter intuitive to me to go ahead and eat 500 calories more if you are trying to lose weight. DH goes to a 60 min. high intensity spinning class 3 days a week. I have told him to add some extra carbs and protein to his snack before he goes and lunch afterwards. But he isn't eating 1000 extra calories which is the amount he burns some days. He usually has some extra cheese and crackers and an extra cup of rice.

I know a part of exercise is to get fit and be healthy but for me, if I am going to exercise then my goal is to burn calories to further my weight loss goal. ( I hate exercise with a white hot passion!) I have no desire to go out there and walk for 30 mins, earn 3 activity points and then eat a 3 point muffin. I would rather just skip the muffin and the exercise! :rotfl: I would hope that if I am able to earn 3 Activity points per day and I stay with in my daily and weekly points that I will see better results at the end of the week.

And while I do agree-- and in fact know -- that just getting off your butt and doing anything-- cooking dinner, grocery shopping, house work, yard work etc can be counted as activity, I have a problem calling it exercise and using that as an excuse to eat more.

I would love a better explanation of a rationale behind eating back exercise calories/points when trying to lose weight.

Hmm...I don't know about eating back exercise points, but I do know if a person is working out hard and isn't eating enough, they'll start to lose muscle and not burn fat. Their body will start fighting back by holding on to all the fat it can and they'll hit the dreaded "plateau" - so frustrating! :headache:

I've stopped worrying so much about the weight, per se, and am concentrating on adding muscle and getting lean. I'm spending less time exercising :yay: but have ramped up the intensity (bigger weights with shorter reps, crank up the resistance in spin class, etc.) and wow, in just 3 weeks time, it has really made a difference.

The more long and lean muscle I have, the higher metabolic rate I'll have - which means I'll burn more fat just sitting there while I'm not exercising, and I like that idea. :)

:wave2:

:cheer2: Congratulations! Why don't you put up the 20 lb clippie?

I like your thinking - I will! :goodvibes Lord knows, I've earned it. :faint:

:cool1:I'm packing for WDW! :cool1:

I'm so excited, I can barely sleep, or eat! I'll just have to watch that I don't all of a sudden get hunger attacks and start shoving just anything in my mouth.

Whoo Hoo! I finished my 5K! My goal was just to run the whole thing without walking ... it got tough at the end. Luckily it ended with a long downhill stretch. :goodvibes My time was 33 minutes. I felt really good about this since there were hills (I hate hills!) and I usually train on level ground.

Well, my sons kicked my (you know what! :rotfl:). This was their first 5K and my oldest placed 3rd overall, my middle son (the football player came in 4th in his age group), and my youngest came in 6th in his age group. My husband who only walked it was proud that he came in under an hour ... at 52 minutes :lmao:.

Wow, I had a lot of fun ... so did my kids. We might be signing up for another one soon!

Thank you everyone on here for inspiring me to exercise and run. A lot of this credit goes to you! :goodvibes

Brrrrr .... it was cold today! :hyper: There were actually snow flurries while I was running. That is sad your yoga trainer is leaving. Hopefully you will find another one. :) I understand about not being able to do it at home. There is no peace and quiet here ....

Mary Poppins Awesome on your first 5K! You will rock it! And what a great cause! Please do let us know how it goes. Be warned: races are addictive!

:) I think I am hooked! Good luck on your 1/2 marathon. Let us know how it goes. I would love to try one of these ... but I think I need to build up to it. Maybe someday!

Congrats on your new PR! That is great! You cut off 3 minutes of your time. WOW!:cool1:

:cool1:I'm packing for WDW! :cool1:

I'm so excited, I can barely sleep, or eat! I'll just have to watch that I don't all of a sudden get hunger attacks and start shoving just anything in my mouth.

I am so jealous. Have a great time. Let us know what is new and exciting!

Way to go!! :thumbsup2 You are my hero!

My 1st 5K event is next week for the Expedition Everest Challenge :yay: but my next challenge is to 100% run a 5K event the night before my 50th birthday in June.

:goodvibes

When I am studying or working on homework I want to eat everything and I just don't care, so I can relate. Its ok to have an off day, don't beat yourself up about it!

My plan was to go to the gym and do my new workout, but i'm not going for a couple reasons.
1) I had to be up at 5::30am and i did not sleep well! I'm exhausted.
2) I'm still so SORE! I worked muscles i haven't used in a long time, i'd rather give them another rest day and be able to walk tomorrow, than force it and not be able to walk for the next week
3) my stomach is not feeling 100%, got boxed lunches at the history even today and may have eaten something that had dairy
4) HOMEWORK. Enough said.

Good news, according to the schedule i made for myself, I am mostly on track for homework. Maybe only slightly behind. I think i'll be ok but i will feel a lot less stressed when im done.

The history event was really great, i was really impressed with all the work the kids put in and it was a great experience!

The discussion on calories is interesting. I've never really understood it. I need to get back to tracking calories, because im either way under or way over. When i was tracking i was at 1200 a day, but i hardly ever ate back excercise calories. When i was sick i think i was as low as 800 to 900 a day, right now i'm really not sure. again i need to start tracking again.

Now i might go take a nap then really get some work done so i can stop stressing. im worried about the amount of stuff i have to take on the cruise. its not going to fit in my suitcase
