Bendy-Friendies V.4 ... Drinks-A-Plenty with a Side Order of Tasty Food!!!

Thank you everyone. I considered not going at all because I didn't think I'd be able to handle it. But I am really glad I did because I enjoyed listening to the friends who spoke about her. We had fireworks at the end and they were really spectacular - the same kind of thing they have at Disney (but for 2 minutes instead of 15).

That sounds like a wonderful service, I'm glad you were able to go. I think the fireworks were a beautiful touch.

Yesterday was an amazing day. Bob woke up and made such a ruckus trying to talk to me and write on my palm that the nurses put out a call to any doctor to come and write permission to remove the breathing tube. They did and he hasn't shut up. I stayed with him for 8 hours yesterday and he talked constantly. His speech and voice have been affected (but his mind is still sharp) and I can understand about 95% of what he is saying. He is still having to use the feeding tube though, because he can't pass their swallowing test yet. When that happens he has given me a list of food and drink "wants" that spans three notebook pages. I came home to check on the dog (who ate pottery last night.... there is no end....) and to eat lunch. I am going back with renewed hearing! Thanks for sharing in my delight.

That is the best news I've heard all day! I'm glad to hear Bob is relaying his food and drink wishes, I hope he'll be able to have his special 3-page dinner soon!

Poor pottery eating doggie! :scared1:

Yea! What great news Elin!

Aren't these adorable???

Those are awesome! Did I miss a post where you mentioned where to find them?

Oh it was a lot of things ... my reports took too long to finish (sheesh, I'm sorry I have a job that takes 50-60 hours of my time each week with another 10-12 hours commuting) and the threads were too long to manage (sorry that I tried to respond when people made comments or asked questions) and I apparently was too cliquey (pretty sure I never told anyone they weren't welcome to join the fun but I guess some people use a different definition of the word clique).

And I'm sure somewhere along the way I made a comment or two that was probably too irreverant or insulting for someone. :lmao:

So I decided to keep things on facecrack and my blog for people who are really interested in our experiences and the information we have to share. I do have to say that I find it really interesting that they aren't enforcing their own rules on the restaurant boards - threads are still unlocked after reports are clearly completed and some have dragged on for more than the 90 day limit the mods imposed but hey ... why look for consistent treatment around here?

This thread is kind of a check-in point but most of us have hooked up on facecrack now so I just keep this open to catch any stragglers who would like to stay in touch. We have a good group of friends that have come together thanks to the DIS but the supreme leaders have taken all the fun out of the restaurant boards so we keep it to ourselves so as not to bother anyone here. ;)

Amen!

That is :dance3::cheer2::banana::yay::woohoo::cool1::love::cloud9: wonderful wonderful news!

Abby, I thought I clicked on your post as well, but I think I lost it  Just wanted to send some hugs & pixie dust your way. I hope the party for your mom went well

I've been working part time for Jon at his office since last winter, it started at 8-12 hours a week. That was great, he got the help he needed and we got a little extra money into the house as I was starting up my company. Now it's grown, both jobs. I'm working 20-30 hours a week (on average) at the office with Jon and (thankfully) my travel stuff has picked up. It's good, we need the money (teenagers are expensive and they like to travel & eat as much as we do) but it doesn't leave much time for other things like keeping up on the DIS or writing trip reviews (don't even ask what my house looks like :rolleyes1). I'm going to try to write a review this weekend, before I forget everything

Have a great hump day friendies!

Yeah reviews!!! :cool1:

We're headed to a beer dinner on Friday night with some friends so I hope to have a fresh new something to share soon, too! :goodvibes

OK... I am not certain this counts as a food review to you all, but it is the best I can do under the circumstances here right now. :)

Quick explanation of the pottery dinner for Button: I was heating up some leftovers in the microwave for dinner. When I took the bowl (stoneware) out of the microwave to move it to the countertop it slid right out of the potholder and smashed to the floor. Button, who is always on the lookout for a people treat was Johnny-on-the-spot and started gobbling chicken casserole before I could get the darned mitt off my hand! There were two halves of the bowl and two shards about the size of a tangerine wedge on the floor in the midst of the food. She swallowed the first shard whole and this 14 1/2 year old, 25 pound, monster-mouthed and apparently cast-iron stomach/colon bearing dog chewed the other one and swallowed it. The vet had me soak six pieces of bread in water and force her to eat them. There was no forcing. She ate all six of them and was still looking for more food. Needless to say I have been on bathroom duty for the past 24 hours and so far, the only thing I can say is it just looks a little sandy. I guess that means her system broke the rest of it down! I will keep an eye on when comes out of her today too, but... c'mon Fate: cut me a break here!

Maybe Fate just thought you needed a good laugh :lmao:

Years ago, we left the house to go to Midnight Mass (Megan was a toddler) I had the bags of candy for the stockings out on the counter, they weren't there when we got home. Damn dog ate an entire bag of Hershey miniatures! The vet said the only thing that saved the dog was the fact that she ate the wrappers too. We had snow that year and you should have seen how the yard sparkled with the pretty colored foil for the next few weeks :rotfl2:::lmao::rotfl:

Hope things continue to improve for Bob & Button

I just posted part one of a three part review of dinner at Joel Robuchon on the blog if anyone wants to take a look. It's long but there was no way to avoid it ... and it ends on a cliffhanger!

Robuchon, Part I

I cannot wait until I have the time to read this series, Brenda. It seems like it is a good one from the comments I have been reading

They decided to put a trach in last night. Bob had insisted that I teach yesterday so I got to the hospital just as they were wheeling Bob into the OR. He came through it well, and the surgeon said he had experienced a number of firsts with Bob. He has never gone into ICU to discuss options with a patient and the family to find the patient on a ventilator, reading a book and writing notes in a steno pad. Bob actually signed his own consent form which was again a first for the surgeon!

The things dogs do!

One of my dogs the other week ate multiple small Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, the plastic bag that had held raw chicken (he fished it out of the trash can) and the stuffing from his bed and something else that I can't remember and it happened all in one night. I ended up sleeping on the couch with him as if he was going to get sick (and well he did) I rather it on the hardwood rather than the carpet.

That is too funny. Who does that in a place like that?

I'm glad Bob is slowly getting better and can sign his own forms! Hope for a speedy recovery.

Sounds like he's giving them a run for their money there!

Robuchon, Part I

 I am anxiously awaiting the posting of the next installment! SOAP OPERA!!!!! What will Skeletor and Not-He-Man do next?????

Oh wait... the food! So far, so good, in fact it looks wonderful! Thanks for taking all the pictures, the dishes so far are beautiful. And what are a few discreet photos compared to the sideshow happening at the next table?

You guys looked great - hope the evening ended well!

Elin, thank you for the continued updates on Bob's condition. It's great to hear that he's making some progress and we continue to send good thoughts and well wishes your way.

As for Robuchon ... thanks to everyone who's read it so far. Wait ... just wait until you read how it ends with Skeletor and her manservant. I've never seen behavior like that anywhere ...

As long as you all want me to post the updates here, I will. I know not everyone is on facebook, so you wouldn't know what was going on any other way.

Bob is now the proud owner of a trach and a PEG feeding tube in the stomach. Although he approved both these surgeries, he was not particularly happy yesterday. He has entered the bored to tears portion of a prolonged hospital stay and his impatience and stubbornness are showing themselves. He is insistent that he can eat and drink and is furious when Kristin and I won't bring him what he wants. We did get permission from the ICU staff to bring him his cell phone so he could text rather than write and he asked to play a game of Yahtzee which they also permitted. But he quickly tired with that minimal activity. The man hasn't had a feeding in a tube since noon on Friday so I imagine he is famished! I hope today brings him some more progress and less disappointment. Meanwhile, Kristin and I are continuing to try to work and go to the hospital. It will be easier once they start some kind of therapy with him, as it will give him something else to do. For security reasons we can't leave his book reader or phone or iPod with him so he is reduced to hours of watching the History Channel and reading. I am hoping he can get out of ICU soon, but his BP has to be stabilized and his little bout of arrhythmia yesterday cannot return! Keep us in your thoughts, friendies.

Elin,

Thank you for posting the updates and I am glad to hear all the progress Bob is making. I know the range of emotions are hard but at the same time glad to hear that he is having them, he is a strong person.

Keeping your family in my thought and prayers.

Couldn't have said it better here in Stinktown; thanks Brandi! :goodvibes

We're with you Elin ...

Elin,

Thanks for the update! :)

I'm sure it's frustrating for Bob, but his impatience and stubbornness have likely helped him come as far as he has as quickly as he has. Now he needs to learn how to not let those traits impede his recovery.

Continued prayers for your family.
