Bed bugs!!

OP here and it's not a negative post or scam. I'm 65 years old and never tried to get Dis to pay for anything in all my 33 trips! I woke up at POFQ at around 5:30 am with a lot of itching. I had about 10 bites. My DD and I pulled back the covers and we caught the tiny little bugger in a cup and put him in a little plastic baggy that he happily crawled around in. Then we took him to the front desk. The manager was so nice and could see all the bites on me. He was wonderful . Gave us money to go to Wal-Mart to get my DGD, DD and myself some new clothes. They had to escort us back up to our room to get stuff we needed for the day, but anything that was fabric had to be collected by them and taken to be disinfected, luggage included. We did get a new room that management checked out.I was so upset that we had to take time out and get a taxi to go shopping at Wal-Mart on our MK day. He did reimburse us for our one night. So I usually do check the beds when we check in, but with our plane getting rerouted because of storms, we got in late and I never checked the bed . Never make that mistake again! And thank you to the posters that had a little compassion to think that I would not make something like this up and try to scam Disney. I'm an honest person and would never think of doing that. I was just wondering if anyone had a problem and how it was handled. Michael, the manager was great. Oh, he said it happens about once a month.

Oh no! I'm sorry that happened. That's not very magical, is it? :(

I am sorry you had to deal with that.

I would just suggest in the future when asking a question you use a question mark - ? - rather than an exclamation point. I think many of the suspiciousness came from the exclamation points and lack of explanation that you DID experience them. Unfortunately in our litigious society, there are people who are not above planting things to try and get something for nothing.

So sorry! How awful. What is the best way to check for bed bugs? I've heard different strategies. I usually just pull back the mattress pad to see if I can see anything - but having never seen them - not sure if I would really know. Someone said you have to have the lights off and then pull back the mattress pad and quickly turn the lights on. Just wondering what people do and for anyone who found some, what did you see?

I would caution you about how you handle clothes and luggage when you get home. Leave everything outside. Bag it in garbage bags. If you come from a hot climate, set the car out in the sun for a few hours. Anything you may bring home will be killed. If not, put everything through a hot dryer for 25 minutes before washing it. Get a bed bug cover for your mistress and box spring.

We brought a bed bug home from a hotel in London, Ontario and it was not a pleasant experience. We basically had to quarantine the bedroom, bag all our clothes, treat every spec of clothing with heat and spray. Not fun.

Let's hope you leave the little huggers in Florida. Sorry about the bites. They itch like crazy.

Sorry this happened to you!
Be very careful that you don't take any home!
We leave most of our luggage in the hot car in the sun for a few days when we return home and then all clothing goes right in the washer. Then we vacuum out the insides of the luggage.

Apparently the best thing is a flashlight. Check for movement inhibits, but also check for black specks in the mattress ticking. It's their excrement. Also look for red smears on the sheets. That's blood from their feed. It appears if you squash them.

It happens more then you know. Disney pays guests to keep quiet about it from what I've heard. All star music had an outbreak a few years ago, mattresses burned, etc.

Check your beds, side tables, pictures, etc. use bedbug registry.com

It happens everywhere

We also lift up the mattress and check with our flashlight around the headboards and seams of the bed.

So true. Disney uses a special code when referring to bedbugs at the front desk. They will never say "bedbugs".

I leave everything outside the room first. Saves alot f aggrevation later if little critters are found.
I use a sticky rolley brush...I pull back the covers and roll it around the corners of the bed/ mattress, floor, rug, etc. Takes a little time but well worth it as any little bugs stick or their dryed droppings. Then look for any little black specs in blankets or corners.. If any concern contact the front desk right away.

SOOO that's what i get! Looks like bites or a red blotchy rash above my ankles. I could not figure out what it was.
It's called Golfer's Vasculitus caused by walking a lot in the heat. I got it this past May when I was at Epcot.

knock wood...no bed bugs so far.

Maybe you should have stayed at AS Sports then:rolleyes:

Thanks for all your advice everyone! And sorry about the exclamation points. My DGD says I use them all the time when I'm replying on Facebook also. It's a habit I guess. I really didn't think it was such a big deal. I'll definitely be more careful the next time. They brought all of our stuff back last night. Clothes were folded in bags and everything else just dumped in bags. All of our stuff mixed together. Now we have to take time out to sort it. What a pain!!! Well, getting ready for DHS. First FP is Toy Story Mania!!!!

Actually, we think I brought it over from Sports, but not sure. I like Sports in the past, but this time it just wasn't for us. My DGD was really disappointed and wanted POP, but no openings there. We have free dining from bounceback from last year and all those rooms were gone.

Not fun but sounds like they handled it very well. You mention that management was great. Not sure what else you are asking for.

OP sorry that some are so quick to attack. It makes me kinda sad that if you have a problem people assume the worst first. I prefer to assume most people are honest until proven otherwise. Anyways, on with the bed bug issue. I haven't had them at Disney or another hotel. I do believe we picked up lice at a hotel at Disney but that is hard to prove. I called back to the resort to let the manager know but given that I have a child myself (and he is who had the issue) I suppose it was possible we brought them with us. I'm glad they took care of everything material for you. I still think I would leave my suitcases outside when I returned but I'm pretty paranoid. As far as compensation, I think more than a one night comp. should be included. Maybe a few fastpasses to make up for the time lost in the park would be a nice gesture.
