Bed bugs!!

Ok So this may seem like a stupid question but how can you tell if there are bed bugs. I have never had any experience with them. You can see them?

my family always laughs at me when we arrive to a new hotel. i always hear "what's mom doing?" "looking for bedbugs!" "oh yeah" then the room erupts in laughter....they don't know how good they've got it!

This is exactly why I buy fabric luggage for hotel trips. Everything, clothing, bag itself, everything goes in the dryer for a couple of hours. We love Vera Bradley duffels. The boys have manly duffel bags. I miss rollers, but my bug paranoia overrules.

I did check both rooms, but obviously missed something - I ended up throwing the majority of my belongings in the garbage (hardshell suitcase, purse, pjs, jacket, etc.). I just wanted that portion of my luggage to disappear quickly. The rest is either in the deep freeze or dryer....unfortunately I had to drive from the airport to my home and I am also worried about my car.

I work in the hotel industry & bed bugs are becoming quite an issue. They are very costly to the hotels to treat. $1500.00 per time for the professional heat treatment. And, they don't discriminate. They can be found in any level of hotel. They can be in the mattresses, the headboards, just about anywhere. The best thing you can do is just be pro-active & know the signs. Check the mattress before bringing anything else into the room. Keep you luggage off the bed & off the floor. Being paranoid about them, isn't going to do any good.

The OP said he found Bed Bugs and I am wondering if some of the next posts are finding other type of nasties

like " Love Bugs " & cockroaches etc.

These other nasties can come in through open windows & on peoples cloths .

In Florida there are many forms of nasty bugs around all the time .

Oh no now I'm.nervous about our Feb stay planned at BCV. Every time I think a resort is in the clear, a report comes up!
Don't be nervous. Its gonna happen. Just be cautious. I check mattresses, headboard, near electrical outlets and behind pictures. Check mattress for brown spots (fecal matter). You'll be fine.

I wish I didn't read this thread with an upcoming trip.

I always check but I really thought I was just being crazy and my husband absolutely just thinks I'm being crazy!

I checked the bed seams at both resorts and did not see any signs - Disney has sent in the bed bug dog to investigate both rooms, however the claims department said it may take a few weeks to get back to me with the results :( . I am treating my belongings as if they were in contact with bed bugs, but am hoping that I was mistaken and it was something else. I am also having my car checked by a local bed bug dog this evening for my own peace of mind (they are 4 hours from where I live or it would have been done earlier).

You should google info about them and see what to look for in a room and what they look like. Yes, you can see them but they avoid light. When arriving at a hotel room, go in and check the room before bringing in any luggage and try to not turn on the lights if possible (use the light on your cellphone or carry a small travel flashlight). There are a lot of good websites which inform you exactly how and what to look for in a room.
