august 2013 codes for rental cars?

Do you work for Honeywell? If not, I wouldn't be using a Honeywell code.

My company code cannot even be used for personal travel. Although in the past it could, you were certainly not allowed to give it to a non-employee.

Nope - Those are my thoughts....my friend works there and assured him it is OK - but I have heard stories of people getting pulled to the ticket counter then paying full price....

Off to cancel it now.... back to the drawing board!! I see ME in my future!!!:sad2:

That's smart. I guess you could keep it, but I'd definitely have a backup reservation with another agency. My recommendation is to always be able to backup whatever coupons/codes you use with documentation (meaning, don't use Costco without membership, AAA without AAA card, etc.)

The rates are being very stubborn this summer. I don't know if you've been looking at the July thread, but folks there aren't too happy as the rates just haven't been dropping much. We're not seeing the big drop a week or two out. Could be the recent holiday has something to do with it, or perhaps the inventory is still down from Hurricane Sandy (the car agencies had to move a lot of vehicles to the northeast because so many lost their cars in flooding and they had to rent until insurance was resolved). Hopefully, things will get better in August, especially the second part of the month when crowds die down. If you don't have anything booked yet, reserve something now even if it looks high, then hope for the best.

Nothing booked now as I just cancelled the car.... I am not sure if I am willing to pay those prices. I can do hotwire for $15 a day but that is prepay and then done. I set a price point in the beginning of the trip...way back when I planned it in November and budgeted $400 for the car rental. That seemed so high back then. I really cant go over that. Worse case scenario I am doing ME. Also thinking renting away from the airport may be better. I have done that before - and although a bit of a crimp, I can do it if necessary. I have been watching July as well hoping to see trends that may help gauge August. You could well be right about the inventory. I also wonder about those people that hold multiple reservations. (I saw someone on another forum that has 6 reservations.... that seems excessive to me!)

6 reservations does seem excessive. For a trip, I may make reservations perhaps 10 times, but never have more than a couple active at any given time. I'm sure the agencies know the percentage of active reservations that actually show up, so I don't think that's much of a factor.

If DME is an option for you, I've seen posts reporting that rates are better at the Car Care Center. You might want to look at that for Alamo at least and see if you do better. If you did this, you'd DME to your resort, then get the Alamo shuttle to CCC whenever you want to start your rental, then drop again at CCC (or perhaps MCO).

Try ID xvc1092 with national. It's a well known code from car and driver magazine. I used that with a free weekend day code (found on mouse savers) to get 209 for 5 days for a mid size.
I am an emerald aisle member and will be able to pick from the aisle.

I don't know how much the Free Day takes off your rental, but I just got a National email with a coupon code for $25 off a weekly. (Which should lower the total by more than $25 because of taxes and fees.) Saturday night keep required and 5-day minimum, Economy through Fullsize, valid for rentals through 9/8/13.

Thanks for the code but that one is more expensive (my weekend day is worth ~39)

The free weekend code is NFB2698MF

Gotcha - your rental is just short enough that the "weekend day" coupon works. Did you compare the difference between doing it with each code or did you just base it on what they say you're saving with the Free Weekend Day?

It doesn't work (at all) for my 1 week + 3 days. And even free day (rather than weekend day) coupons aren't as valuable as I first expected them to be. In the past (for me), they've been worth 1/7 the weekly rate, not the value of an "additional day" so it's always been worth less than a $25 or $30 coupon.

With the KLM code, even though the extra days are $33.xx and 1/7th the weekly rate is also $33.xx, the "free day" code I found only saved $4.75! (A $30 BJs coupon saves $35.15.)

I'm at $306 for my 10-day midsize from 8/3-8/12 with KLM and $30 coupon. I *know* I can get a full size through Priceline for $236. I suspect I might be able to get it for even less than that by bidding. But I *really* prefer an Emerald Aisle (or Reserve) rental. Saving $70 is kind of on the bubble.

The $25 off gives me $225. I'm at $209 with the free weekend day code.

I just checked...the free weekend day has a length of rental limit...that stinks for you.

I hear ya on priceline vs emerald aisle. It's about $30 cheaper to go through dollar but I will stay with National bc I might get something a little bigger...and I like to pick my car.

I will keep playing the game until the day I leave!

Any suggestions for getting the price down on the rental I need; August 3-13, 11 days, preferably a minivan. I am getting around $1200 even with a code.

It looks like you are cruising during this trip on the Fantasy? Have you considered a one way rental from the aiport to the cruise port and then getting another car post cruise for the remainder of the trip? Im sure it would save you a bundle on the car and the high parking costs too!

Oops I take that back, maybe you are not cruising this time. Sorry. Have you tried looking at sites like Costco (if you are a member) or car rental savers . com?

I am booking my son's WDW trip which requires a rental from PA and back. DH and I will be on the Sept 14th Fantasy sailing.
Do not have a Costco membership but sure will try the other link.

TYVM!

Hello again. I have the following two reservations and I'm really undecided as to which to choose, so I was hoping to get some opinions here.

I need a mid-size SUV from 8/22 - 8/27 picking up and dropping off at Orlando Airport. My options are:

1) National-using the KLM Flying Blue/Air France code
2) Dollar-using a special mid-size SUV rate directly on the Dollar website.

1) National
Car Class: Midsize SUV 5-Door/Automatic/Air
Rates:
Time & distance 1 RENTAL @ $240.33 $240.33
Extra - time & distance 0 DAY @ $35.55 $0.00
Extra - time & distance 0 HOUR @ $17.78 $0.00
Extra - time & distance 0 WEEK @ $248.82 $0.00
Extension - time & distance 0 DAY @ $35.55 $0.00
Extension - time & distance 0 HOUR @ $17.78 $0.00
Extension - time & distance 0 WEEK @ $248.82 $0.00
No charge distance 0 DISTANCE @ $0.00 $0.00
Contract I.D. Flying Blue/air France Klm
Inclusive Rate Items
No charge distance Included
(5) Loss damage waiver full Included
(5) Supplemental liability insurance Included
(5) Customer facility charge 2.50/day Included
Airport access fee 10 pct Included
(5) Florida surcharge 2.00/day Included
(5) Tire/battery fee .02/day Included
(5) Vehicle license fee .71/day Included
Sales tax (6.50%) $8.49 $8.49
Guaranteed Base Rate Included
Unlimited Miles Included
Sub total.....................................................$248.82
Discounts
Entertainment $25 Off Specialty ($25.00)
Coverages:
Loss Damage Waiver Full $0.00
Supplemental Liability Insurance $0.00
Total Estimate................................................$219.53
(Country of Residence: US) (USD)
Approximate Estimated Conversion: $219.53

2) Dollar
Currency: U.S. DOLLAR
Rate Code: 5CO6M
Your Rate: 5 Days at $33.99 per day. Unlimited mileage.

Base Rate: $169.95

Charges:
Facility Charge: $12.50
Concession Fee Rec: $17.53
Energy Recovery Fee: $2.25
Florida Surcharge: $10.10
State Tax: $14.00
Vehicle License Fee: $3.10

Estimated Grand Total: $229.43

Now, I consider the price difference of only $10 between the two a wash. For comparison purposes, let's just call the price the same.

My question about which to choose are because:
1) I don't like that the National rate breakdown does not include ANY taxes, charges, surcharges, fees etc. Once I rent, can they say "oops, this is an error. These charges should have been included, your price is now $500."?
2) The National rate says that Loss Damage Waiver is included. Is that too good to be true?
3) The Dollar rate does NOT include Loss Damage Waiver. If the fact that the LDW is included and legit with National, I like the idea having that coverage. So I'd hate to miss out on the National LDW coverage if it is indeed legit.
4) I've NEVER rented a car before, so all of this is pretty new to me. Which is why I am looking for advice.

Which one would you choose and why? :confused3 Thanks everyone! :goodvibes

I had lots of trouble with Dollar at the airport..I cancelled and took for one day and got my car later when needed. She was trying to tell us we had to purchase insurance which I told her I was covered by mine..she said NOPE...then she told us we had to purchase a thingy for the toll hiway...never had so much trouble....will never use Dollar again...I like Alamo (which is related to National) What I book is what I get and pay for...no extras no hassle...try Alamo code 299851...I have used for lots of years my friend just used in May at Orlando Airport..I have it booked for end of July too. YOu can use this code with a visa code if you are using your visa.

FYI, Alamo just dropped their rates at MCO for Aug 27 for 9 days $201 total for a full size. using Costo codes and costco $25 coupon that is good until Nov 23.

That coupon is only good for a convertible, minivan or suv. I got a better rate using the Insiders rate and $30 Visa coupon. Did you try that to see if it's better?

I have just about given up hope on finding a great rate with Alamo. Still $300-$500 for my dates, depending on the vehicle selected.

Ah, well. :rolleyes2

Just ran the numbers removing the costco codes and coupons. Looks like they dont do anything. THis rate is their base rate without any codes. still get $201 for fullsize. this is starting aug 27th..
