august 2013 codes for rental cars?

For my dates, I am getting $466.21 for 14 days Aug 14-28. That is with Alamo Insiders and a free upgrade from a midsize to a standard. Still not as good as last year when I got a full size for 14 days for $293..... :confused3

I have the exact same rate for Aug 15-29. With my TA rate and a free upgrade from a midsize to a standard.
Better than the $800.00+ I initially had, you're right , nothing as good as previous summers...

Just rented compact car for 4 days from WDW Care Ctr. using code Coupon AU5224JAB & Alamo Insiders for $223 includes Fuel Svc Option & weekend. Is that a good deal?

I was better off using coupon code AD2338FDF Instead of the upgrade, saved more money.

Probably cause they are sold out. What are your dates?

Aug 8-22nd. I have two rates, with the compass code - with and without a entertainment book coupon. I have the entertainment book, but it doesn't have a $30 coupon, only a $20. So I guess I stay with the code and try and add the coupon when I get there... or too much hasstle?

The rates are being very stubborn this summer. I don't know if you've been looking at the July thread, but folks there aren't too happy as the rates just haven't been dropping much. We're not seeing the big drop a week or two out. Could be the recent holiday has something to do with it, or perhaps the inventory is still down from Hurricane Sandy (the car agencies had to move a lot of vehicles to the northeast because so many lost their cars in flooding and they had to rent until insurance was resolved). Hopefully, things will get better in August, especially the second part of the month when crowds die down. If you don't have anything booked yet, reserve something now even if it looks high, then hope for the best.

The high rates are the new norm, thanks to all the mergers that the FTC is allowing with these car rental companies. Less competition=higher prices.

http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2013-07-11/hertz-wins-final-approval-of-dollar-thrifty-deal-from-ftc.html

Avis, which boosted prices twice in June, said it has “continued to aggressively implement pricing increases in North America.” In the first quarter, Avis raised prices six times and attributed the increases in part to Hertz’s deal for Dollar Thrifty.

I have a full size August 17-26, Hertz, $240.

Is that base or everything included? My date of the 15th seems to be hurting me. Right now i have a mid size Emerald Aisle for $401 8/15-827 ...that is the total rate. Not sure i am willing to pay that....

Looks like dollar dropped for my dates 8/21-8/27. I am looking for a minivan and this is the lowest I have seen. At least $50 cheaper than last week

Your Car Choice: Mini Van Dodge Caravan (or similar) Promo Code: 362 1 Week at $254.15 per week. Unlimited mileage. Rate Code: RWUW5 City Special Rate $299.00 Weekly Rate*
$254.15 Total Base Rate* $254.15 U.S. DOLLAR (USD)
Rate Details
Est. Grand Total $328.07
Good luck

Due to some unexpected major household expenses, it looks like we will be dropping our SUV reservation with National (using the KLM code & entertainment book coupon, for a total of $245 taxes in for our 8 days) and moving forward with our full-size rental from Dollar. I will keep the SUV rental for a bit longer just in case we're able to get our home repairs done for less than we are expecting, but frankly, I'm not expecting that to happen :sad1: .

So.....thought I'd throw this question out to anyone who has rented from Dollar in the past and might know (note I have also emailed Dollar for the "answer from the horses mouth" but their auto reply says to expect between 3 to 8 days for their response):

I have two Dollar reservations right now. Both full size cars.

One is with the "city special", for a total of $167 with taxes and fees.

One is with the CAA/AAA discount, for a total of $155 with taxes and fees.

Its obvious the one I want to use :) .

That said, my DH is going to be the sole driver of the vehicle so the reservation is in his name. I am the one who has the CAA coverage, so the CAA card is in my name.

Do you think they will still honour the CAA discount for our family's rental?

My bet is on no (which is why I have the second rental reserved) but I am wondering what the rest of you think?

Or can I have the reservation in my name, with DH listed as the driver so that the name of the renter is the same as the name on the CAA card?

And yes, as soon as I have something in writing back from Dollar I will cancel the unneeded reservation. Ditto for the SUV rental, as soon as we conclusively decide that we are going to stick with the cheaper vehicle.

I found a ridiculously low price from Advantage for 8/22-8/30 at MCO... Full size for $130 including all taxes. Much much less than any competitor using codes.

Is there any reason to be leery of Advantage at MCO ? I figure I'm safe if I book through Expedia.

Any thoughts ???

Advantage does not get good reviews and although it says on site in the terminal, it is actually via shuttle.

Hi Mary, I don't have all the details of your rental, but that seems like an outrageously high price to me. That's almost $60 per day!

Does anyone know if one-day rentals are ever discounted? Looking at driving ourselves to Port Canaveral to catch DCL instead of the pricey DCL shuttle.

I'm sorry it's for 8/23-8/27. Compact car no add ons except for fuel fill up. $223 estimated total. According to Alamo it's $35 p/day then with all the taxes & surcharges it skyrockets. Thanks for your opinion. Still not sure if I should cancel.

Did you mean one way or One day or both? :p There's some one way codes but they are few and far between. Best one for me usually is the budget Y937800 code, but if Budget's daily rates are high then that one isn't always going to be your best deal.
Also try checking Hotwire & Priceline .

Thank you! Yes, to clarify, one way there and then one way back.
