august 2013 codes for rental cars?

My dates are 8/27-9/1 and the only good rate I found was through Dollar, $138 for a full size.

I tried Alamo with and without the Insiders code and my rates were higher as an Insider. :confused3

Got my hopes up, but we are Aug 10 and it's still hellish expensive...$660+ through costco/alamo. I can't believe the KLM code is still my best bet at $440 for two weeks in a standard. :confused3

Guys, don't forget Priceline about a week before you leave!

@ Bob ... I am seriously considering Priceline or even Hotwire for that matter, since the quotes that I am getting for 13 days (8/6 to 8/19, MCO) are outrageous. I have never used either to rent a car before, but if I get a price of less than $300 for the 13 days, I'm all for it. Any helpful hints on how to use those sites would be greatly appreciated. TYSM

Hi Mrs. D,

If you look back a few (maybe more than a few) pages there's a post with a great link to how to bid on Priceline. I'm home now and I have it bookmarked on my computer at work, so I'll see if I can give you the link Friday morning.

Has anyone had any experience with Advantage? They are in terminal at the airport and offer $385.59 for a full size car Aug 14 to 28th (14 days). That's the best I have seen so far. Alamo is still quoting $670 for the same dates for just a standard car.:sad2:

After reading some reviews, it looks like they are actually a shuttle off site with poor service......no thankyou!

Here you go Mrs Doubtfire (and anyone else who might find these helpful)!

If you go back to page 33 of this thread, post number 494 by BrettB on July 5 will help you calculate Priceline fees.

And if you do a search on this thread for "Priceline" you'll find more tidbits.

Good luck!

It's funny because I go in each day and look on Alamo with the Visa code and the vroom vroom code and the total never changes. It has only moved once when I found a Luxury car for $234 for my dates (8 days with a late return) which I snagged.

Since then it hasn't budged even a $1! I'm assuming I have the best I'm going to get.

Wouldn't assume anything yet. August is still at least 3 weeks away for all of us. Typically, the best discounts are around 7-10 days out, and a PP had luck with 3 days out.

That being said, I try plugging in simulated similar dates for July around 7-10 days out and I'm not seeing much, if any, improvement. My hope is that July is busier than August, so we'll see some improvement.

Best I've been able to do is the Dollar $189.99/wk (base) midsize SUV (there's also a Premium at $179.99/wk (I think), but I just don't want to drive a Crown Vic around). Actually, all I need is a midsize...

As usual, book something, but don't give up!

We are renting at Tampa this time as opposed to MCO and if I do a quick search on prices 10 days out they are much lower than I am being quoted. So I have hope things will go down. Its shocking to me though as I paid around $180 for a 10 day full size rental in April over spring break (which I would personally think would be a slightly busier time!). Counting my blessings I have 2 ressies I can live with currently (much better price offsite). But I would love to get the price down.

Does anyone have the Visa $30 coupon code mentioned?

I can only find a $15 one.

thanks

I can't remember - does Alamo at MCO have a standard aisle? Can I book a standard but then get a full size because they don't have standard or is that National?

My Alamo rates are now as low as I've seen them (& match what I have booked). Maybe they are on a downward trend. :)
Dates - Aug 31-Sept 14.

Mine are too, and I have early August, the 5th-14th. Fullsize for $282. I would love to see it go lower though.

I am at 286 with Alamo Aug 3-12. MCO pickup/drop off.

Priceline offers are about 50.00 less, but I am not ready to risk not getting Alamo, yet.

For my dates, I am getting $466.21 for 14 days Aug 14-28. That is with Alamo Insiders and a free upgrade from a midsize to a standard. Still not as good as last year when I got a full size for 14 days for $293..... :confused3
