As the Ticker Turns...the neverending saga of the Resort Changers

So no changes here, but an addition! It's our on-the-way-to-the-airport-from-the-beach routine. It's Easter weekend. (Again, eek!) And it's . . . VWL! So excited to be returning to WL and we think it's a perfect resort-only choice. Our affordable Easter weekend options are more limited when our entire family of five travels together, and my husband will be with us for this stay, so I was thrilled to see that VWL now sleeps 5 in a deluxe studio. WL is one of his favorites (or "most tolerated" would probably be more accurate) so I think this reservation is a keeper!

Sounds like a great addition!!

My mil and FIL stayed with us some summers. It was just too hard. The kids would go into the kitchen, take a cookie and eat it right in front of mil or FIL. Kids assume all grown ups are in charge and when they didn't yell at them it was ok. That meant I had to super watch them constantly. Um who can do that????

We've run into issues like that since moving in with the inlaws. I have had to remind my DH several times (even as recent as this week) that he needs to remind his parents they are the GRANDparents and we are the parents.

Well 45 days is getting closer!!! I think you know how I feel about cr TPV.

Actually I love my morning coffee on the balcony listening to the magic kingdom wake up:cloud9:

That sounds like :cloud9: My DH thinks getting that room category/resort is all about sitting on the balcony while watching fireworks, but it isn't. Like you said, I would love to watch the MK wake up in the morning, but to just sit on the balcony at night and watch it sleep.

Dh and I have been spending the weekends on the boat:thumbsup2 starting to get practice for our soon empty nest.

Weekends like that sound amazing.

WOW! That saddens me greatly! :sad2: I would have been SOOOO upset. Yeah, I think it'll be OK at the boarding facility. People have given some of them rave reviews so I'm hoping they're as good as their ratings are.

That good. I'm sure you'll fur baby will be well taken care of.

Happy Wednesday RCers,
We got home yesterday evening, all went well. DH is off for the rest of the week, so that is very nice. Many thanks for your sweet thoughts and prayers.
Hugs to you all :grouphug:
Ginny

Thanks for letting us know. I'm glad things went well. I'll keep him in my prayers that he's back to 100% quickly with little pain.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! :bday:party::bday::drinking1:cake:

If y'all don't mind, say a prayer for me sister. Holly, her Beagle, had this orange sized mass come up under left front right leg. It came up super fast, like with in one weekend. She has had to have things removed before, but they were external and my sister described them as a dog version of a human skin tag. They removed it and got the biopsy results yesterday. It's cancer and it so aggressive nothing can be done. This was my sister's first baby that she has had since she was a law student in NOLA.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY GINNY!! Hope you have a nice and peaceful day. Sounds like your DH's surgery was successful, and that is fantastic! :thumbsup2

Wookie - Sorry to hear about your sis's pup. :( Our last dog died of something similar too. :guilty: Many prayers headed her direction.

HB Ginny, and glad to hear it went well! Prayers for your sister and her puppy, Wookie.

MM-
Thank you for your birthday greetings.
I saw the photos you posted a bit ago of cute things you ordered for your new little one. Disney is always an excellent choice! :cool1:

Kook-Thanks! Those words are very inspirational to me. It's a blessing to have such a sweet RC family. :goodvibes

Trish-Thanks for your sweet thoughts. Congrats on your RC to TPV Atrium Club.:dance3:

Wookie-I'll be thinking of your sister.

pigletgirl-Thank you. I just noticed your ticker, your trip is right around the corner. :cool1:

Pixarmom-Thank you. :flower3:

Safe travels, Sue! Have a great trip. :goodvibes

I am looking forward to Top Chef Duels tonight on Bravo. I hope it's as much fun as Top Chef is, love that show. ::yes::
Hope you all have a good evening, hugs to all! :grouphug:

HB Ginny, and glad to hear it went well! Prayers for your sister and her puppy, Wookie.

Wookie-I'll be thinking of your sister.

Thanks. I just feel so bad for her. My brother called her last night to talk to her about it. She called my mom this morning and told my mom it ticked her off that he did that.

Oh and on good news I finished the first of two scarves for my girls only trip. My friend wants me to add fringe to it, but I need to make sure I have enough yarn once I make my scarf and the two hats. I may have to order another thing of yarn.

Well, Lordy, I have found my new home! I started with a booking at WLV. Then a few weeks ago I changed to BWI-CL. And now, with just 2 days left to rebook and keep my free dining promo, I am beginning to rethink and look at BC/YC. I am making myself (and DH) CRAZY! Is there a 12 step program for this problem?

Hi friends! Am I still allowed to say that even though I have been MIA? I'm trying to catch up but fading fast tonight but I will get through all the posts! Anyway, I wanted to say hello and thanks to Pas for starting the new thread!

I'll update on my review of the Dolphin and OKW later plus fill you all in on my Sept plans!

Hi! I'll head on over to that thread and check it out. :) Thanks for the welcome!

*Edit* I had to go over to the CL thread and put the name with the post. Thanks for the reply on that thread too.

So glad to know I'm not the only one who can't make up their mind. There are just so many good options!

I have stayed from POP to royal palm club at GF. All have been great vacations.

The resorts for me IS MY FAVORITE part of my vacation. :lovestruc

They are all so unique and fun/relaxing:goodvibes

Amanda and Trish, love hearing about all the changes! Amanda, what ADR change did you make?

I dropped Cape May Cafe for breakfast on our last day before heading to the airport. Instead, I was able to get an 'Ohana ADR. My DS loves Mickey so I was happy to get 1 last meal with him. Of course, I'd rather have Chef Mickey's & I'm still stalking for that. Never satisfied with what I reserve. :sad2:

If you find that 12 step program, PLEASE tell me. I really need to stop all the changing. :headache:

BW is one of my "must try" resorts! Did you decide to keep it or switch to BC or YC?

So glad to know I'm not the only one who can't make up their mind. There are just so many good options!

:welcome:

Indeed there are too many good options! Too many resorts, restaurants, etc. Of course, I'd be the 1st to complain if my options were limited. :rotfl2:

The ONLY thing that stops me is my family's choices (that's something because that never stopped me before) :lmao:

They are ALL good options....some are better than others...but it's totally personal preference. Something for everyone! :welcome:

We really need a thread/support group for our spouses:idea:

:grouphug: So sorry for your sister, it is devastating to have a furbaby suffer :sad1:

I've missed so much! I'm still not all the way through and I'm sure I will forget something but I am going to try some recaps.

Kook- Love your room upgrades - two years in a row?? I'll take a leaky ceiling for that! :thumbsup2

Dimn - Japan??? I definitely missed that in the last thread. Congrats and good luck to you and your family. You definitely need to hit the resorts and parks over there!

Pixar - $67? Wow that is an awesome rate. I have never seen anything below $80 (maybe $79 once)

Candace - I congratulated you already but I'll do it here publicly too. WHOOO HOOO to the news about Baby Mason!

Janet and Jenny - love that you got together at the falls! What is the meet up plan for WDW?

Janet - can you add me to the master list? Sept 26-30 CR

M&N and Step - so good to see you!

Ginny - happy belated bday! What are your F&W plans this year?

Koh - so sorry we didn't meet up in July. We didn't see the EPCOT fireworks as my family voted for the MK ones. They were so awesome. It was a great night!

Wook - so update me - you are flying to Atlanta in Dec and then driving down with your friend? I love the tshirts and the scarves!

Heather - loving the daily pics! We are debating another cruise next year for spring break which is also my 40th bday!

I know that's not everyone! Hi to the new people! Who has BC booked? Don't change it BC is awesome!!! I'll have more later!

 There is NO time limit here, sometimes (all the time) life gets in the way of DIS time, but you can always come back home. OKW review...yes please :upsidedow

Ok, so let's talk OKW. First off, we had a 2 BR villa. HOLY GUACAMOLE. The room was HUGE. I was in shock at how big it was! You walk in the front door and to the right is the laundry which leads to the master bath (toilet shower sink area - HUGE) which leads to another room that has another sink and the garden tub which leads into the master with a king size bed and door leading out to balcony. If you skip the laundry and continue down the hallway from the front door, there was another doorway into the master. Seriously this whole side of the house was so spacious I couldn't believe it. The only complaint I have is that there was no door from the garden tub room into the bedroom. Because my kids were also using my bathroom some, that was a bit awkward at times. But this is a minor complaint.

So, the other side - to the left, was the second bedroom. Two queen beds plus a small table and chairs. Much bigger than most hotel rooms. Bathroom had separate vanity area outside of the toilet/shower area. My in-laws shared with with my two girls. Lots of closet space too. This was a big big room.

Ok, further in to the room straight ahead was the kitchen and family room area. Family room has a chair, sofa and loveseat and open floor plan to the kitchen with dining table. Lots of flat surfaces and storage space here too. My son slept on the pull out chair. It is a memory foam mattress and he was in heaven. We never pulled out the sofa bed once he sat on the chair bed. We cooked eggs one morning but that was the extent of the cooking we did in the room. We did load the fridge with drinks and bring in pizza and salad one night.

Straight through the family room was a large deck overlooking the golf course. It was so close we could talk to the golfers on the putting green. Very cool! The deck had another 4 person table.

General resort feedback - I loved the room. It was great for the arrangement we had. This would have been too big for just the five of us (and too expensive) but it was great considering we had the in laws with us. Our building was pretty far back on the grounds. The walk to the feature pool was far. You could use the buses but that wasn't super convenient. We ended up taking the car a couple of times. The walk never bothered me at CBR in April where we were also far away but I think the heat makes a big difference. July was hot and when we came back midday for a swim (every day) we were HOT. We were much closer to Turtle Pond Pool. It was a good spot, not crowded with plenty of seating and a bar with snacks. We did that one day but my kids liked the main pool with the slide and the games.

Main pool - awesome. Big pool, great slide, fun poolside activities. As I said earlier, we stopped everyday midday for a swim except the last day when we hit the pool after breakfast. About the time we were heading to the pool, most people were leaving and we never had trouble finding chairs. The pool has lots of twists and turns and you couldn't see the water from where our spots were. This wasn't an issue for me as mostly, I was in the water with the kids (I loved the slide too). I also have three kids that are very strong swimmers so not an issue. We had a couple of yummy drinks and ice creams from the QS area.

Food options - this is probably my biggest issue with OKW and it doesn't overshadow our stay but I was disappointed about no indoor QS place. The options were pretty limited. Again, not a huge deal but definitely a step down from our last few resort stays. We did eat breakfast one morning at Olivias and it was fantastic - banana bread French toast - yes please! I would have tried dinner there too but it was pricey and I was feeling bad choosing so many expensive options.

The gift shop had a good variety of items but not much in the way of groceries - go offsite for that.

Transportation - the buses came often but there are a lot of bus stops. We don't mind this much as the buses are cool and we don't like to drive to the parks. I'll take the extra stops to not have to deal with parking and walking and driving back.

Anything else you want to know???:lovestruc

I have checked many times a day since we first booked this last minute trip before passes expire.

I knew we down to the wire with needing 5 days to cancel POP if we were to move.

I started today checking at 7:30, then 12 and again at 3:30. :surfweb:

BAM! TPV atrium club at cr with passholder. :cool1:

I still remember sitting on bed back in January with a view of the castle when dh and ds crashed our girls only portion of our trip with a cancelled flight.

We had to move out to garden wing for space. She was sad but understanding of course.

So this is the 2 nights we lost back then::yes::

:worship: so glad I finally found it!

LOL! You were taking bets on whether or not it would stick! :wizard:

basketlacey Thank you SO much for the OKW review!!! My concern is the buses and the distance to the main pool. Glad to hear the buses ran often, did you find them superpacked at the end of the evening? We have two late nights...wondering if we are better off driving. As for the location of the room...my fingers are crossed. View and quiet are more important :goodvibes Glad you enjoyed the resort. We will be doing more eating in the room since I have picky eaters (including DH) :rotfl2:

:rolleyes1 Well I am telling you I checked EVERY DAY! That was the hardest Cha Cha Change I have ever had!

Loved your impressions of OKW. I got a good rate back when kids were in Jr High. We were across the street from the Turtle Pond. We liked that location and the size of the studio(huge). Did not like the distance to the theme pool, food and shops.

Who wants to take a bus with swim suit on??? Or walk along the street with busses and cars passing you??? It just was not as private of a feel compared to walking on pathways like other resorts.

DD's BFF has family that stays there all the time(owners) yet I probably wont go back. We love BLT and VGF:cloud9:

I see you going to CR soon!:yay:

Jeanette,

We liked the turtle pond area because pool was nice, private hot tub AND a snack area to get lunch:thumbsup2
