Sunday Evening 10th August 2003
The Cast:
Me Tim, 39/40
DW Julie, 36/37
DD1 Nicola, 14
DD2 Jade, 9
Having arrived outside the MK we first had to get our Annual Passes activated. Luckily there was no line at the Guest Relations windows so we went straight up to get our APs. We used our passports for the photo ID and the CM actually noticed that it would be mine and my DWs birthdays on a few days time and gave us our birthday badges in advance that was nice of him.
APs in hand we headed for the turnstiles to get into MK. As it was the first time we had used our APs we had to scan our fingers. Trust me to have trouble getting all the scanner lights to go off! DW and DD1 seemed to get it straight away. (DD2 didnt need to scan her fingers being a child).
Eventually I managed to get all the lights to go out and I was allowed in.
We had arranged to meet the Lorraine and family at Peco Bills (or just outside near Splash Mountain). As we were a bit late I thought they might have given up on us. I have one photo of Lorraine and that was not a very good on as she was pulling a funny face, so I hoped we would recognise each other. As we walked towards Splash Mountain from Adventure Land a lady started waving. I took a good look and thought it look a bit like Lorraine must be her. I was just about to run over and give her a hug when some bloke from behind us ran past and beat me too it obviously not Lorraine then!
We stood on the bridge overlooking Splash Mountain, looking round for another likely candidate, when another lady came over from the direction of Peco Bills waving. Now, I wasnt going to take any chances this time, so I walked towards her slowly waiting for her to say something. Thankfully it was confirmed that it was Lorraine. After a quick greeting and hugs we headed towards Peco Bills for dinner.
We quickly got our burgers, fries and drinks and sat with Lorraine and her DH Tom getting acquainted. It was coming up to 9:00pm and the start of Spectromagic, so we all piled out of the exit and stood and watched the parade go past one of my favourite parades. After Spectro we took a steady stroll round the back of the castle to watch the fireworks. It was the first time we had watched them form the backside (if you see what I mean!). They seem a lot closer and very much loader. But you do miss the castle changing colour and the flying Tink.
My DD1 and I really needed a drink. We managed to find an outlet just about to close near the Pooh ride. We ordered 2 cokes and tried to pay. The CM serving seemed to be having a problem getting the till to come back on. Another CM came, but couldnt get it to work either! In the end the first CM turned to me and said you can have it free!!! I couldnt believe it something for free in WDW!!
Lorraine had arranged to meet her DD (Lauren), her DS (Mike) and his friend (Elliot) in one of the little side street just off Main Street USA. So headed with the crowd flow in that direction. They were all there waiting when we finally reached the side street, and we sat at the little tables waiting for the crowds to clear, having a good old chin wag and making plans for the next few days.
By 11pm (4am UK time!), the crowds had almost gone, so we set off for the busses back to our resorts. Lorraine and family were at OKW, so we waved them on their bus and walked along to the POR stop. There was still a bit of a line, but not too bad.
After fetching drinks in our refillable mugs we collapsed into bed!
