April 29, 2012 ~ Aloha! ~ Inagural Wonder to Hawaii-Part 4

I remember being told on the Magic that 4 laps around Deck 4 is a bit over a mile. I forget the EXACT distance. Hopefully someone else will have exact figures. :goodvibes

That was my recollection too. Three laps seems kinda short.

Does someone have the address to all of the ports we are staying in so I can run Google Maps to see exactly where we will be docking?

Are there any D23 members going to the D23 Day at The Walt Disney Studios and Archives? This is the first time I have had a chance to go to an event since it is on the day before the cruise and we will be in town. Has anyone been on a Studio or Archives tour before? Is it worth doing?

I'm a member and I looked at this but I don't have a car to get there so I booked the ABD studio tour instead. :thumbsup2

Has anyone booked a separate excursion to National Volcano Park in Hilo? We are booked on the Disney excursion, but I would like to have a little more time there, and do some more hiking rather than being shuttled around to the Macadamia farms and touristy things.

We did look into a private excursion in Hilo, but all the once that we could find left long before the ship docks.

A question about customs: how will customs work for things that we purchase in Hawaii when we leave the ship in L.A.? Will we just not need to declare those items?

I think as long as you keep the receipts to show that it was purchased in Hawaii, you should be fine.

I have a question maybe someone could help with.

Slowly I have taken up running and just ran my first 5K at the Knotts Berry Farm Coaster Run last weekend. I am by no means a "runner" and still just go at my own pace. During the cruise I would like to run some or at least walk daily.

My question is does anyone know how many laps on deck 4 would equal a mile?

thanks!

I can answer that. One the WBTA 2010 and the PC 2011, we did Walk a Mile most days and this was three laps around deck 4.

That was my recollection too. Three laps seems kinda short.

I am full of useless information. On the Magic they have a sign on deck 4 stating the distances for 1 to 4 laps. For four laps it states: 2.14km or 1.32 miles

I have two spare kits for the Fairy/ Champagne Girl bracelets. I have been chasing one person for two months now and she does not respond to PMs on here, messages or Wall posts on Facebook or email. So I figured that somebody else may appreciate the chance to make a bracelet. If you are interested, please send me a PM.

:woohoo::yay::banana::woohoo::yay: Just wanted to share my Doc dance !!!! Fedex came about an hour ago. I am so excited about this cruise.......

Looked up my Hawaiian name........it is Kina. Not much difference. :rotfl2:

I am mad busy at the moment. Work is throwing me one curve ball after the other. As of this morning I still had to monitor 24 calls before I can do my end of quarter paperwork. So I am doing a lot of overtime at the moment. Still, this will be paid out on April 27th so it is all spending money for the cruise.

I am working on the Navigator every spare minute at the moment and this kind of keeps me grounded. I am also taken to working on my Fish Extender gifts while commuting to and from work by train.

Well, we both tried on our DIS Hawaiian shirts and love them. I had my charity event on Friday:

I have now washed them. We don't have a tumble dryer and they drip-dried in less than 2 hours and there is not a wrinkle on them.

My Hawaiian sun dresses finally arrived on Tuesday, but I have not had a chance to try them on yet.

Kina is the Hawaiianized English form of Tina...if you would like a translation, then look to Tina as the ending of several names, such as Christina or Bettina. Or as an independent name it would be the little or small one. In Hawaiian, MEA LI'L would be little one.

So if you want something different, then you could be Mea Li'l...

or Kina if you prefer. there is no "t" in the Hawaiian alphabet.

Let me guess... both of you are on Continetal/United?? I had used miles for one ticket and happened to check one day and they not only moved us from a non-stop to a layover in Houston... the first agent said that there were no more seats available FF miles!! I called back and talked to a nice lady who made it right. Had to do it again a few weeks later when they did the same thing to the flight I paid for. It had to do with the switchover from Continental flights to United. I check every other day!

Debbie

Debbie - You are absolutely correct. I made my reservations back in June with Continental using FF miles. However, I noticed the change before the official merger date but the agent said it was probably caused by the merger. I think it was just a good excuse at that time. In any case, I will be checking every day now that it is less than a month till take off.

Thanks ! That's interesting. I always have people ask me if Tina was my birth name or was it Christina. I was named Tina because I was born tiny. I was a premie. Kina is pronounced the same. I will keep it. :)

I finished my FE Gifts! They are now safely packed in boxes until I feel the desire to split them into cabins. :woohoo:

Now why does my desk look so strange. . . It can't be because I don't have stuff laying all over it. Could it? :lmao:

I am just about to head to Australia today for work for two weeks so I won't be around for a bit most likely :)

Be good... LOL

Finally, if you have any tips on how to combat motion sickness I would appreciate any suggestions that have worked for you in the past.

Tomatoface

Starting the night before the cruise we take the once a day bonine just before bedtime. It helps ward off any drowsiness, and we wake up and go about our day with no sickness. :goodvibes

Just made reservations for the Fantasmic Dessert on April 28th for the first show. After that we will watch the fireworks and then fo back to the room to pack for the next 15 WONDERful days. Can't wait.

I should have some left. I took my shirt to get taken in on the sides, don't know what kind of scraps that will genrerate. It's not supposed to be ready until tomorrow. Let me call her today to see if she started it. If she hasn't started it, I'll tell her to hold onto the scraps.

I have the piece of extra fabric I ordered from Val and was going to use that to cover the 2 scrapbooks. I have no idea on how to cover one and was going to wait until we got onboard and have one you guys help me. If I can try to figure it ahead of time, and if there's any leftover from that you can have it.

The crocheted bracelets are made from strips that are 3/4 inch wide and 45 inches long. Little pieces can be sewn together so almost anything is useable.

If you have sideseam pieces you can share, send me a PM and we will talk.

I bet Linda (Seaulater) will be able to tell you how to cover the scrapbook or you could ask at a craft or a scrapbook store. My scrapbooks are 3 ring binders so I would get one with the clear plastic pocket on the front. Take a piece of stiff paper, lay it on the fabric where I want it, cut the fabric a couple inches larger, fold over the edges of fabric, tape them down, turn it over and slide it in the clear cover pocket. :confused3

But that's just me. .... :upsidedow
