Anyone's DH addicted to video games?

It started with Mech Warrior
Mmmmm, Mech Warrior!

Okay, maybe I'm just odd (people say that to me all of the time). Our household functions just fine with both my DH and myself playing City of Heroes. My 6 y/o loves to watch from time to time. She designed my character's last outfit, complete with a kitty cat on the shoulder. We started playing because we didn't want to take our oldest out to movies/entertainment when she was a baby. My brother got my DH hooked on Earth and Beyond. I begrudgingly played and have loved it ever since. We don't go on massive playing spurts. It's more of a time to enjoy a hobby together after the girls go to sleep at night. :thumbsup2

Does anyone have any thoughts?

As long as my son stays slim and busy with other things and his grades stay high, I won't worry about him playing video games. We all do here and often with each other. I think it's better than watching tons of TV personally.

The kid is 13 now but played long before he was 10. I haven't noticed any ill effects.

No, thank goodness! He doesn't really have the time these days. Before he went back to school, he'd play some sports games on our Sega Dreamcast and Gamecube. That was ages ago and he only has time for simple flash games online.

Point the finger at me and it's another story....:) I love my Sims!

At one stage DF was playing City of Heros, Everquest and Wow about 4 nights a week and then all day on Sundays.

I made him cut down to 2 games and he pondered for months over which 2. I then made him cut down to one game during this time because I rarely saw him and if I did, it was because I was in the computer room, or he needed feeding.

I honestly had no issues with it because I was either at uni, or working nights and when I was home I was probably doing uni work.

Since moving he has not played any online games for almost 3 months. Apparently last night he logged onto WoW and his guild no longer existed. :thumbsup2

The problem with online games like Everquest and WoW is the whole guild issue. By my vague understanding its like being forced to play on certain days and a certain amount of time to get anywhere. And if you do not turn up you get kicked. Or in some cases you turn up and still can not play.

DH is addicted to buying games.

At least he's a bargain hunter & waits to buy them when they're $20 or less.

He works so much overtime, he's too tired to actually play the games.

Over half of all our games have never been opened.

Must be a generational thing. I have never seen the attraction in ANY video game. My youngest son is 16 and many of his friends play World of Warecraft. He declined to join in. He says video games suck up too much of your life to spend that kind of time on them. Smart kid for 16.
