We've been there a few times for a day visit via the ferry from Lewes, DE. We love the ambiance of the town and my husband suggested he'd enjoy an overnight stay for his 50th birthday which happens to be on a Saturday in March.

Now I know it will be cold and we're fine with that. At least prices will be off-season! And I saw a website for a restaurant called the Ebbitt Room which looks really nice for a special dinner. We would stay in the hotel where its located but there's a two night minimum stay.

Any other suggestions?

My sister is spending two nights this week at COngress Hall. I know they got a special winter deal.

All I know is that the majority of hotels in the area are bed & breakfasts.

Try the Mad Batter for breakfast :)

I used to live in Cape May :thumbsup2
I met my dh there :lovestruc
It holds a special place in my heart for sure.
anyway, here are some nice ideas

Angel of the Sea
Congress Hall
Virginia Hotel ( home of the Ebbitt room and very lovely)
The Mainstay ( I have a painting of this inn in my first floor bathroom!)
Chalfonte Hotel

Have fun!!

We have a beach house in Wildwood, so we go to Cape May pretty often. Although I don't know much about the hotels, I wanted to recommened The Lobster House for dinner. It's a pricey and more upscale place but oh my gosh they have good seafood!

ditto.

My parents love the Washington Inn, The Black Duck, and for a very pricy night out--the Ebbitt Room.

The Lobster House is steller seafood--take it out, or eat it there. I often eat lunch at the lunch counter---you'll see the locals there. Sundays they have dinner specials for take out. But inside the restaurant is very nice for atmoshere.

For casual, a lot of locals dine at Lucky Bones. The Coast Guard recruits eat at the C-View Inn. Uncle Bills Pancake House. I've heard good things about Georges Place.

Also visit the wineries---Turdo, Hawk Haven and Cape May--if they're open.

Any questions, pm me. I'll try to help you the best I can.

The Coast Guard recruits eat at the C-View Inn.

LOL yep! after boot camp, my dh stayed on at the training center as an instructor for new recruits.........and the c-view was the regular spot for drinks and food for him and his coast guard buddies:thumbsup2

Hi, I have been going to Cape May for yrs. will be going this Sept. We usually rent a condo for a wk. Do you only want a B&B or would a hotel be ok. It seems early in the yr. to require a 2 nt, min. I believe Summer Station which isn't far from the Ebbitt Room offers a one night stay unless there is something special going on. Try www.capemay.com & www.capemaytimes.com they have a wide variety of B&B listed as well as restaurants. You can also check www.tripadvisor.com NJ forum there is a expert TA member who knows everthing about B&Bs. I think the Ebbitt is a excellent restaurant but again there are so many excellent restaurants in CM. I agree the wASHINGTON inn is a very lovely place as well as the Lobster Houe. The Mad Batter is great for breakfast. If I can help in any way I would be happy to.

Just wanted to post an update for those that travel to the area...At the time I was reserving a room, the Virginia Hotel (my first choice) wouldn't allow a one night booking. So I went for our second choice, Congress Hall.

Tonight I randomly decided to see if different room catagories were available and if room prices had changed. (Not much I could do about either because our one night in mid March had to be paid in full upon booking.) But still I was curious...

Lo and behold, the Virginia Hotel has all catagories of rooms available for my one night! And, ironically (or maybe not, perhaps an English professor would know), when I tried to book the same night I already have at Congress Hall, their website now tells me there is a minimum 2 night stay requirement! The site won't let me book for one night.

All is moot because I had to pay 100% at time of booking because we were within the 30 day window. I'm sure Congress Hall will be fine, but I am bummed that the Virginia wouldn't take our reservation a week ago but would now. Should I call and vent to them directly?

I would - not that it will change your situation since you've paid - but it might change their policy in the future. I would also specifically mention that you were looking forward to eating in their restaurant -the Ebbitts Room - but probably wouldn't do that now that you have had no choice but to choose another hotel.

Congress Hall is awesome! We normally rent a house in Sea Isle City for a week each summer, but we always make 2 or 3 trips to Cape May while we are there. We have at least 1 meal at the Blue Pig Tavern (in Congress Hall). They have their own beer, Blue Pig Ale, which is really good, and the bartender in the bar off the the lobby makes an amazing bloody mary.

Congress Hall is my number one choice in Cape May (I even got married there)!! You are going to love it! :goodvibes

The hotel is great, service is top notch, and beds are super comfy! You can walk to pretty much everything including Washington Street (shopping district), the beach, Uncle Bill's Pancake House, you name it!

Please report back after your trip to tell us all about it!!

and I'll make another plug for the wineries... it's a new industry here, and I , for one, would like to see it increase. It adds a nice charm to the area to see the vineyards.

My kids love Sunset Beach...

go to the lighthouse.

Have fun!
