Anyone ever reduced their points before closing?

We bought 220 points in March, 2009 and, of course, with the new incentives, we are going to make some sort of change. Right now, we are thinking about either decreasing our points to 200 or increasing them to 240 based on the following calculations:

200 points @ $112 = $22,400
less $3,200 (discount for incentives) = $19,200
($16 discount per point; BLT points therefore cost $96/point)

240 points at $112 = $26,880
less $4,320 (discount for incentives) = $22,560
($18 discount per point; BLT points therefore cost $94/point)

Since we paid $23,540 for 220 points when we bought in March, either way, with the new incetives, we will be saving money. BUT, I was wondering if we will be able to successfully decrease from 220 to 200 if we opt for that route (I'm *sure* we'll be able to increase from 220 to 240 with no problem).

If anyone can provide any input, I would appreciate it. We're calling our Guide today, but I just wanted to know what to expect. I will, of course, report everything he says regarding the new incentives, etc. Thank you so much for any input you can provide! :goodvibes

I guess that only you know whether 200 points will be enough. We started with 220 and have added on a LOT since then. One note: Are your points all in one contract? Regardless of your final decision on how many points to get, I would divide them into smaller contracts which seem to be easier to sell and command a higher price on the resale market. I hope to never sell, but life brings unexpected changes!

Crystal, I don't know the answer to your question, but I would assume you can do anything you want if you haven't officially closed. Are you still in your 10 days opt out? Let us know what happens!!
Good luck!

I'm curious what day you bought. We bought in March as well and we are hoping to switch to the new incentives as well, but it seems our contract closed earlier than what we were told it would. So it's not an option for us.

You can change your contract any way you want before it closes--up, down, etc.

The only thing I am not sure about is the $18.00 off per point for 240. Did you get this confirmed?

When I just changed my contract, I ended up adding to the contract. I went from 115 to 130 and it only cost me $175.00 more. Over 50 years, that is an extra 750 points-much better than the 115 DP's I was getting!!!

Good luck!
