Anyone backing out?

I was being a little tongue and check with my statement. The reality is we are jumping to conclusions and we don't have all of the information yet to determine if the changes are a big deal or inconsequential to many WDW visiting habits.

I wasn't, Gib at DVC told me pool hopping, TOWL, and member lounges would not be available. It still may not be true, especially if you hold points with BLT. There really is no way of knowing at this point there is too much conflicting information.

"and, effective April 4, 2016, Members who have not purchased an ownership interest directly from DVD will not have access to Membership Extras."
So, when I received this email on March 2nd, I should not be under the impression that my contract is officially mi
Thanks for posting this. According to this I agree pool hopping etc. would not go away. The DVC rep I spoke with this morning said the resales would not have access to pool hopping, TOWL, or member lounges. Probably because no member card? He did say that the airport to resort transport would not be affected.

What the truth is, who knows at this point?
Part of the MF pay for MDE, so they can not take that away unless they remove it from 100 % of all members. That one is paid for out of the pool of MF, look it up

At this point, we are betting off asking a bus driver.
If you have points at BLT then it's part of your MF, so again, they can restrict that to owners of BLT, but can not eliminate BLT resale purchasers, because their MF pay for it.

I can only assume that all of you that have this "the perks are just that, perks....they can be taken away at any time" must have all purchased your points on the resale market. To do otherwise would have been illogical.

I did, but I'm not sure I understand why you say that?

I say it, because if the perks should never be factored into your decision at all, then who could justify paying thousands more for the perks?

They shouldn't. I find it very hard to justify buying direct unless there is a very specific scenario (ie: you want fixed week at VGF, etc). The 2011 "perks" are negative perks IMO (using pts for cruises, etc). DVC did resale a favor by restricting those.

A few thoughts I have:

1). The primary purpose of DVC is to have access to deluxe level accommodations in multiple sizes at a discounted rate over the rack rate.

2). Disney clearly advertises that all perks are never guaranteed and the only thing you are "entitled" to are the actual real estate holding/points.

3). Disney could yank these benefits from everyone at anytime if they so choose... As a result if you purchase DVC for the perks alone, then you shouldn't have purchased. Yes it is nice to have but you need to remember it is a business which wil do what it must.

4). I'm currently involved in my resale purchase and my broker has reached out the the higher ups at DVC. They have explained that any contract that was received by 4/3 at their offices will be grandfathered to the old policy and entitled to all of these benefits.

5) DVC needs a new lawyer to review their policy statements since their statement, policy, and letter all seem to have contradictory terms....

Again, I didn't purchase this because I can get a small discount on a pass or dining... I wanted access to a discounted room going forward while Disney is constantly raising prices... If I get some extras then great... If
Your that worried, do a resale and but a 25 point add on... Problem solved....

Since Disney could yank the perks from your 25 point purchase, as you state in 2 and 3, problem not necessarily solved. You shouldn't expect those since they are just perks.

Hmm. Well some folks like myself bought in when DVC was so new that there weren't any resales. Plus there were some nice promo's to buy in. And some folks want to buy in as soon as a resort is available to purchase rather than wait around for resales. But the bottom line is that I did the math. I factored in historic WDW hotel rates had gone up, how often would we realistically come to WDW, etc. My family needs at least a 2 bdrm. My membership has paid for itself over and over. I've lost nothing by buying direct, in fact I feel like I've made out very well.

I own more than one TS company and I own numerous contracts, both direct purchase and resale. Nice thing about my direct buy weeks/points is that I don't have to worry about any changes that could be made to resale purchasers. I only have to be concerned about that with my resale week. But because I did my homework, and really just wanted another week at our home resort, I had no issues being left out of some of the "programs". I wanted my accommodations and that is what I have.

That is not consistent with your many posts that state that you purchased the right to accommodations and that others should be happy with that. Since you have pointed out that you have no right to perks and shouldn't expect them, I guess you are basing that on historical treatment and not the words in the contract you signed.

Today marks 6 days from when we signed our contract, and we have decided to go forward with our purchase. We are already owners so the loss of the perks do not matter to us. However, I was tempted to back out and see what happens to the resale prices.

Gib at DVC? Please don't tell me that Gib is a salesperson.

I just passed ROFR, and I'm already a DVC member. I won't back at this point, but as I've said before whether or not Disney has the power to take away benefits, it does not excuse that I negotiated and entered a contract based on a set of benefits. When I learned of the changed, I called my broker to confirm the status of contract in ROFR and I was told my contract would be grandfathered in. The next day I get an email indicating Disney called back and changed their minds my contract is no longer included. Disney customer service seems to be running out of pixie dust.

I think that's a wise choice, I doubt it'll have much effect and it's almost certainly not going to lower prices enough to justify the lost usage if you actually need the points.

..

That's interesting. My broker thinks it's a done deal and no changes will be made. I wouldn't believe anything until Disney puts it in writing.

This is like anything in life where everyone has different ideas of what's important to them. It's not for any of us to judge what people add as value into their decision to buy DVC resale or direct. If I were learning this just after I made an offer and these perks were important than I would be mad too, and maybe I would be re-considering my decision. When we went through the Disney sales pitch the perks were definitely highlighted to us, and there wasn't even a mention that they would or could be changed. The initial rep used it to try to entice us to buy because we were getting a huge discount on rooms regularly and so the room discount wasn't the be all end all deal for us. Fortunately I read everything and had some experience with timeshares, so I knew better about the perks. Overall I think that there are those that will feel this decreases the value of a resale, and it may cause a slump in the resale market. With all the changes Disney is making I think more and more people are really unhappy and thinking a little more about going to Disney or buying into DVC. In time everyone will settle down and life will move on. For now there are those of us that don't care and will still go!

I wonder how much my fellow resale owners would pay per point to "turn them into retail"? DVD will never do it, but it would be pure profit to them beyond the cost of the "Membership Magic" stuff. $25 per point? I like to say I wouldn't care at all, but I know for sure I would do it for $5, but not for $50.
