Marathon Weekend 2026

Yea, DL flights are looking brutal. Trying to fly into SNA so I don't have to get a rental car (I don't like taking Uber LAX, sometimes it's borderline from Burbank or Ontario). But those flight prices from Houston to SNA are not looking to gracious right now.
Don't sleep on Long Beach. I've had good luck flying in there a few times. Also look at splitting the trip into two one-ways and shop different airports for each flight. That's one of the benefits of LA having so many options (if you're not renting a car).

I forgot about Long Beach. We flew into that airport last summer when we went to DL.

Only here to say that this is very exciting but as a die-hard Wolverine (alum, employee, parent of a Wolverine), this makes me sad. 😂
I am the exact same, but as a Spartan. I do bleed green, but would have been very proud to have a Wolverine in the house. Now my other daughter (who is a Spartan) had very different feels…

And I will say Ann Arbor has my favorite pizza outside of New York and now I will sadly miss out on the excuse of getting it every time I was visiting my DD.

You've obviously never had pizza in NJ or CT then. 😉

The pizza is Ann Arbor isn’t bad but Zingerman's is where it’s at for local deliciousness.

Has anyone stayed at the Ft Wilderness cabins (the new ones - DVC) for the Marathon weekend?
How was transportation? Is it better to have a car right?
And food options?
Thanks!

Good afternoon RunDisney All-Stars! May the 4th be with you and welcome to this week's edition of Sundays are for Disney (SAFD). In honor of Star Wars Day, what is, or has been, your favorite Star Wars experience at WDW?

SAFD: I've greatly enjoyed the incorporation of Star Wars into WDW over the years and have been blown away by the immersion provided by Galaxy's Edge. I rode Rise of the Resistance once, having been a bit misinformed about the intensity of the ride, and thought it was an incredible experience. I won't ride it again, though, as it's a bit above my "thrill" threshold. My favorite experience has been the light saber building at Savi's. The show that they put on around the experience was fantastic and the saber that I created ranks as one of my favorite Disney souvenirs.

SAFD: I can remember walking through Galaxy's Edge the first time feeling like it was just the coolest thing ever. If there's one thing Disney excels at, it's creating wildly immersive environments, and they really knocked it out of the park here. There's still a picture on my wall of my mom and me standing in front of the Millennium Falcon (she is the one who introduced my brother and me to Star Wars).

May the fourth be with you. 🫡

SAFD: man that’s a tough one. I’ve had several really good ones:

- three SW races (two at DL and one at WDW)
- on line to meet Darth at Launch Bay and some Jawas that were hanging around stole my friends pair of sunglasses and ran him around for a bit (not sure they still do this, it was back in 2017)
- first time seeing the Falcon at GE
- Getting to see Mando and Grogu when they first started making appearances
- The surprise Star Wars mile at this year’s marathon!

But I’ll go with first ride on Rise. Really blew me away, start to finish. Everything was still working lol.

SAFD: I miss the Star Wars race weekends. Dark Side Challenge in 2017 is still the only non-MW RunDisney race that I’ve done. Having the 10k and Half Marathon course fully themed to one IP was really cool. I definitely would have wanted to do more over the years if they continued to offer them. Added bonus for spending time in Epcot during flower and garden and the Death Star challenge medal.IMG_1571.jpeg
(Excuse the sweat, those races were hot 🥵)

I was also very lucky to visit Galaxy’s Edge on September 5, 2019 (and a couple other days that trip), a week after it opened. We planned the trip long in advance of when the SWGE opening date was announced, and were very worried that our normally slow time of year would be inundated with large crowds as a result of the opening. Amazingly, it turned out to be my favorite trip I’ve ever taken.

First off, we booked at what now seems a completely insane rate for AKL (somewhere in the $250-270 per night range). Second, in the buildup to our trip, there was a massive hurricane projected to hit Florida. I don’t remember the exact specifics anymore, but I believe it both greatly dissipated and changed course very late in its path and barely touched central Florida. Despite this, the anticipation of the hurricane had apparently caused many cancellations. I arrived early in the AM and when I checked in at AKL they asked if I wanted them to see if they could get us in a Savannah View room at no additional charge. This is not something that I would have even thought to ask about or dreamed was a possibility. Anyway, they were able to pull it off and the rest of our trip featured amazing views.

Oh yeah, Star Wars 😆 , well long story slightly longer, my sister, niece and nephew weren’t getting in until late that evening. So I had a day to myself to explore (I had an AP at the time). I went straight over to Galaxy’s Edge and it was stunningly empty. Got to explore the whole world, walked onto Smuggler’s Run in the single rider line a couple times (RoTR opened a few months later). Actually stopped for pictures since I had the AP. Tried blue and green milk and wondered who on earth thought making a slightly viscous perfume/potpourri flavored drink was the way to go (this still baffles me). Went back later in the trip when the rest of my family arrived. Decided to design a droid as well, despite normally not being a merch type of guy. Was just caught up in the moment. I still hope that Disney does better with the Star Wars IP in their parks, but SWGE continues to be a good start.

(The giraffes did get much closer many times during the trip, but I’d be a bad social influencer because I never think of taking pictures)

Rest of the trip was amazing as well, one of the emptiest MNSSHP we’ve ever attended was another highlight. It was just such a serendipitous trip.

SAFD: aging SW Geek here…

If I can only pick ONE, I’ll give it to Star Wars Weekends, and especially the SW fireworks during SW Weekends. Those were the days!

A very close runner up has to be opening day at Galaxy’s Edge, though. Entering for the first time in the wee morning hours and experiencing Batuu for the first time was amazing.

And of course, I miss the SW races terribly. Having the 501st out on the course hands down made for the best race experiences I’ve ever had.

SAFD: I’ve only gotten to ride Rise once but it was amazing and I look forward to riding it again. I think it is one of the best rides out there. GE is really neat with such immersive theming. Seeing the Stormtroopers out there on the balcony looking for rebels and Chewy around the Millennium Falcon.

But I would have to say finding a real, and more importantly, empty bathroom in GE during the SS 10 miler last month is fresh enough in my mind to rank high on my list.
:rolleyes1:rotfl2:
