An apology

I didn't check into any of the celebrity threads myself so I can't really comment on what was said there. I just think it's really cool of JC to apologize to those who were offended. Let's all give him a break now. :)

I saw the humor, but I could see where others might not. I think it's great that they apologized to those that were offended.

Yes, I know you guys are already PO'ed at me enough for this screename, and I do want to say, this is a SINCERE apology, not as me "pretending" to be Jesus but from the actual me.

I have been giving all of this nonsense a thought, and I did realize something: Jesus is crying over this.

I realize how obnoxious and offensive I have been, and I just want to apologize to everyone I have offended, including Jesus and God.

I am a Christian, not a very good one at that, but I do believe that Jesus is our Lord and Savour and that he died for us. I just thought the whole "Celebrity" thing was really funny, and for some reason or another I signed up as "Jesus Christ". Originally it was just gonna be one post, but, at the time, it seemed funny so I kept on posting and posting, including very un-nice posts.

I really didn't want to post the apology on my other SN because I don't want you guys to hate me forever, but do realize that I truly am sorry, and I'm even sorry for posting the apology on this SN.
That's Hot

I didn't read any of the posts, except the one that I thought would bump my loser thread to get some responses, but it didn't. :teeth: I tried to read the celebrity posts but didn't find them funny. I didn't find them offensive either, just not my sense of humor. Oh ... and I have a great sense of humor ... to each their own.

Anyway, I can see why some people would find the posts offensive, and why the OP would apologize. I think it takes a person with character to apologize for possibly offending someone, even if it was not their intention. Kudos to you whomever you are!

You want to talk celebrities, you should have been around when GeorgeW, Bill Clinton and Janet Reno were posting. Now THAT was funny! :teeth:

I'm sorry that JC felt pressured into apologizing. It was a joke, done in fun. If you find it tasteless and offensive DON'T READ IT, move along and find a thread you do like.

Sorry, but the spewing, "shame on you!" at other posters is more offensive than anything JC wrote. It's ugly and hateful.

I agree.

I have always had a rule that I will not be offended by others jokes when I know they are trying to be funny rather than hurtful because everyone has a different sense of humor. I just place a mental ignore on and move along if I don't appreciate the joke. Sometimes it is hard to tell that someone is joking. But, I think it is obvious that the OP was not trying to be hurtful. Anyone could see that he/she was joking. Now, whether or not their jokes were funny is debateable.

I find it offensive when someone is trying to be condemning or hurtful or shame others. That IMO is a purposefully unkind and extremely offensive.

Jesus, for your DIS-penance give us three hail Mickeys.

Not sure an apology is warranted. If people are going to be offended, that's their prerogative. But that doesn't mean you need to apologise for them.

Now where are the threads!

I think you are taking an internet BB too seriously. :sad2: All opinions are welcomed here....and if you are going to get seriously offended when anyone is "disrespectful" to "your God"...then you might be more comfortable on a Christian BB. I hope you don't take offense to that but there are many here of different faiths and you aren't guaranteed to not be offended. :wave2:

I was totally offended by these posts. I accept the poster's apology. But it saddens me that some people really could care less if someone was offended by this. Personally I always try and make an effort to never offend anyone with whatever I post. I may not have always been successful, but I try.......

......... Maybe your right tiggersmom2, maybe I'm taking this too seriously. But for those of you who think it's no big deal, all I can say is shame on you! Take that any way you like. After all, that's my opinon and it's welcome here. Right?

Wendy, It looks like to me it was shove and shove back between those two. I think the second poster (Tiziminchac) was being 'purposefully unkind and extremely offensive' because she felt like the first poster (Tiggersmom2) was being unkind to her and others who took offense at the OP's other posts (basically saying if you don't like it find another board). I don't think she was coming straight out of the blue with that 'shame on you' comment.

Either way, I don't know either of those posters but that was my reaction when reading their reponses.

I am someone who is extremely hard to offend. You can call ME whatever you want, it does not bother me. I have participated in discussions of faith with people of other faiths here on these boards and other places. I am not offended if people have other beliefs than mine, or even if they think I am nuts for having my beliefs. But I do find it to be crossing a line to be using the name Jesus Christ, and then be saying things that are disrespectful to him. Sure, we all can have our opinions, and we are not always going to agree, and sometimes people get offended. That is life. That doesn't mean however that if you are offended, you are not allowed to say so.

I don't think the OP started out with any bad intentions, just got carried away, and obviously realized that or the apology would not have been posted. That came from the OP's heart. No one complained to the moderators or forced the apology.

I thought it was funny. Why apologize? :confused3 It's not like you know any of these people in real life. It's the internet for pete's sake. There's nothing to apologize for. So you offended someone on a message board. Big whoop.

You know, the more I think about it... maybe the OP is on to something. Perhaps someone can register the screen name "Martin Luther King Jr." and start making flip comments about race relations. If people object, they too can be told to lighten up, get a grip, it's just in good fun, just don't read the posts, etc.

Hello everyone!
After I saw this post, I went and found the threads. Personally, I saw the humor. You shouldn't be sorry for how you make others feel. That is like being sorry for being you. That's just my opinion. :)

In my opinion that's exactly what happened, Keli.

It doesn't matter why the OP offered the apology, he/she did and I appreciate it, even if I wasn't offended by the posts. It just shows me that the poster has something in him/her that makes them stop and think about ALL posters, not just those that found it funny or those that found it offensive. I like that in a person. :)

See! Any thread on the CB can become a debate of sorts, any thread at all!

I understand what you are saying. I was merely trying to point out that since pretty much ANYTHING can be seen as offensive, it's hypocritical to use remarks that you find offensive as reason to attack (which can also be seen as offensive).

I think it all boils down to the fact that these boards represent such a diverse group that IMO it is more practical to ignore what you don't like than to try to pick apart what 'could' be considered offensive, especially the stuff that is said in obvious jest.

I think the Op was very kind in apologizing.

Honestly...it's all a circle argument. Anything can be considered offensive and pretty much anything can be considered funny, depending on your point of view.

There have been jokes about many, many things that I have found offensive (political jabs right around election time...abortion, to name a few), what is the point in my getting riled up about it? Since I still live in the US of A, I have to remind myself to appreciate the freedom of not being censored because something I say may cause offense to someone.

There is no answer other than ignore IMO because there is no way to filter out what 'could' be offensive without stifling pretty much everyone.

Thank you to the OP for the apology. I didn't read the first post, because I found the idea of it offensive - now apparently by admiting that, I've probably offended people that are offended that others are offended. Because I thought it was worth responding to the OP I'll probably be flamed, but I'll risk it knowing that I would want my apology acknowledged if I were the OP.

I don't get why everything is okay on the DIS- except to say you're offended. That seems to be a huge sin around here.
