I hated "Darby" from Winnie the Pooh, but happily I hear she's been dropped from the franchise. Yay!
I just didn't see the need to make Winnie the Pooh MORE appealing to girls. Girls have always loved that show. Whereas my teenage son has been swimming against the tide since he was a wee small guy, insisting that Pooh is awesome. He identified closely with the real life Christopher Robin, as he also didn't start his formal schooling until he was nine years old.
So he was very offended when Darby was introduced, as he saw it as an attempt to take all the "boy" out of Winnie the Pooh.
(We all really enjoyed the new Winnie the Pooh movie, however - found it to be a nice little nod at the original with fresh material.)
