Merry Christmas everyone! :santa:

Merry Christmas Poly peeps!
Hope everyone has a magical holiday! :santa:

On another note, I will hopefully be starting work on a new Poly thread soon. Guitarob, the previous Poly thread author passed the tiki torch to me a while ago for when it's time for a new thread. While we're not at the usual 250 page max yet, since it's almost 2015 and this thread is dated 2013 AND the Polynesian Resort is now the Polynesian Village Resort with so many changes I think it's probably time to get moving with a new Poly info thread. Once the Christmas chaos dies down I will get going and let everyone know when I've got things done.

Mele Kalikimaka!

Is the volcano pool open or still closed for construction. We will be there jan 6

And if done did they ever put in a hot tub

I forgot to ask in my last post, anyone who has been to the Poly recently or who is currently there or will be in the next week or so for pictures that they wouldn't mind sharing for the new thread. With so any changes many of the Poly photos that we've been using in the first page information posts are outdated and I won't be there until mid-March. Specifically I need pictures of:
*the new lobby
*the new check-in area
*the new Polynesian Village Resort sign
*the Pineapple Lanai
*Club Disney
*any updates to the shops
*updated Captain Cooks
*the bungalows

I'll pretty much need pictures of everything, so any photos you can share would be much appreciated! Even if you have personally posted them in this thread already as you've visited I would like to have permission before using them in the new thread.

Thanks so much!

Need help in trying to find out where I should stay at the Poly for my trip in early September 2015. Ive read about a hundred pages + searching for this, and have yet to have any success. We like to be close to dining and transportation but also want to consider construction while we are there too. We are a family of 4 with a 5 and a 2.5 year old when we go. First floor or a balcony would be our preference. We will be having a standard view. Since we rarely have the window open and can move around the grounds, the view is not the most important to us. Location is most important with minimal constuction noise as a second. Really excited for our stay! Wendlow's Fiji room facing the GF seemed to be nice but also seem to be far away too.

The main pool does appear by all accounts to be done by September as of now? I keep seeing/hearing conflicting reports.

Thanks for the help, and if there is a place I can go with this information by posting a link, Im cool with that too.

The volcano pool will be closed for construction for months. The quiet pool is open and you will get a free pass to visit the open watermark (Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon…one is open at a time in Jan). The renovated lobby is now open though! Have fun :cool1:

Fiji is definitely not far from the GCH at all, literally a two minute walk. It is also on the opposite side of the resort to the construction.

I don't think anyone knows when the pool will be finished, but with the quiet pool scheduled to start refurbishment in the spring it seems unlikely that the main pool will still be out of service by September. I can't imagine that they would have both pools closed at the same time.

We were in Fiji during our last stay at Poly and the walk to the GCH was very short. We actually loved that location as it was centrally located in the resort.

While they seem to be behind on every deadline so far, I would imagine the main pool will be done long before September if everything is to be done by the end of next year. As they will definitely not start work on the quiet pool until the main pool is complete.

Thanks for the input.

Anyone who's walked to TTC lately, is it on a sidewalk, or are you walking on the road? The description from a few pages back has me a little nervous!

Just walked it a couple of times this month. We might have gotten off the sidewalk a few times but it was in a blocked off area where there were no cars. I really only remember walking on sidewalk.

We are making a somewhat last minute (well, still a month out, but it feels late!) switch and willbe staying at Poly in February. Two adults and a three year old.

Justtryig to decide if cub level would be worth it for us--it looks like it would be about $120 more per night, including taxes. I am pregnant and DH isn't a big drinker, so we wouldn't reallybe saving much on drinks. I had planned to order some groceries and have breakfast in our room most days, so breakfast in the lounge wouldn't be a big savings either. I could see us doing appetizers instead of dinner some nights, though, and being able to watch the fireworks in the lounge might be nice.

I am leaning towards just doing standard this trip and saving club level for when we have older kids. But wanted to make sure I'm not missing any great reason to do it with a young child.

And then for longhouse requests...I was thinking maybe Rarotonga, my son might like a monorail view room, and with the lobby construction being done that seemed like it might be fairly quiet? Otherwise probably Fiji? Looking for quiet at night and an easy walk to dining and monorail/TTC as priorities, I think.

The lounge is crowded most nights. Also, at least in Hawaii, you lose some of the fireworks to the ceiling height unless you're sitting up front.

I've become the resident Poly Grinch, but I don't think the club level is worth much, if anything. The specialness of Hawaii has been stripped away by the DVC bungalos (funny how they still don't show them on a map) and without it, I don't think being able to get cold breakfast in the mornings and cookies at night is worth $120 a night.

Just booked the Poly for June 5th and now I am reading the main pool may not be open?!?!? Def do not want to stay at a resort with only 1 small pool during June :sad2:

Whiporee is not the resident Poly grinch, but that made me laugh a little! :) I always appreciate insights from everyone regarding their experiences and perspectives and I agree the bungalows detract from the previous view.

For us, CL is entirely worth it at Poly. We've stayed both CL and non-CL at Poly and with kids. Our experience with our two hungry teens doesn't apply here, so I won't go into all of that, but I can share our experience with our youngest.

Even if we took our teens out of the mix, I'd book CL with our youngest. For us, it's not necessarily the value of the food, but the convenience. The breakfast isn't anything spectacular, but it's more than enough for us and wonderfully convenient with kids. Our youngest is up early and interested in some cereal and juice as a pre-breakfast before anyone is ready to go. Staying CL allows him to be up and out with my husband or me while the others get ready for the day (or in some cases, continue to sleep!) I'd skip the grocery/breakfast order and use the lounge. Not a dollar for dollar savings for a family of three, but the convenience and the ability to eat somewhere other than the room is important to us when traveling with kids.

And the snacks in the club lounge are great for him too - now he's always interested in leaving the parks for a break at the resort to see what snacks are available in the lounge. It's nothing super-valuable - crackers, chips, candy, beverages. But the lure of the lounge makes afternoon breaks more pleasant and convenient. Same at night after dinner - he's ready to head back to see what is available for dessert and he makes fewer requests for treats in the park as a result. We like to see the fireworks, but a full view isn't critical - so the lounge during fireworks is great for us - our youngest is in his PJs and no fighting the crowds with a tired little one. Definitely not the same as being there in the park, but good for us.

A huge benefit is the parade of healthy snacks in the evening (along with some not-so-healthy.) Our youngest enjoys cheese, crackers, veggies and milk before we head out for our dinner ADR. He arrives at our dinner ADR with healthy snacks in his tummy, and often falls asleep peacefully during dinner. There's something about the spread that appeals to him - if I put out the same food at home or offered a piece of cheese or carrot in the room, he wouldn't be as interested.

And this only applies to kids who are really social, but our youngest is exactly that. He loves sitting at the kids' table in the lounge with the little TV playing Disney channel and making friends. It's great down time for him and he's already talking about the friends he will make in the Poly lounge next week!

In the past, we've stayed non-CL and brought or bought snacks and breakfast items for the room. But it's not the same, in our opinion. We overbuy, they are not as healthy, it's not as pleasant to eat snacks in the room and set up/clean. In my opinion, Captain Cooks is great. But my family is anti-CS generally (long story) so they are grumpy about it from our last non-CL stay. With a 3-year-old, the convenience of CL would be really nice.

There is no way it will still be closed. It will not take 6 months to do the improvements. They finished the lobby on time. Don't stress it......

I can definitely see that being a benefit with multiple kids! With just one it's less of an issue to eat in the room, but something to keep in mind for the future, since next trip we will likely have multiple kids in tow.

This is definitely true for our son, I could see that working well for him. Healthy foods are way cooler if someone else is serving them!

We have a similarly social model. He still wants to visit the friends he made on the beach in San Diego last spring...

At other resorts during low season we have often have luck getting a more affordable upgrade at check-in. Is this something that happens much during low season at Poly, does anyone know? Obviously it can't be guaranteed, of course, but I think DH is leaning towards booking a standard room and then if we can get a better deal later maybe upgrading.

I'll chime in on my CL experience. I've stayed CL at AKL, Poly, and YC. AKL is by far my favorite of the CL lounges I've used. Poly was nice, but I did find the lounge to be crowded (and of the three resorts, it was the one I noticed people being the most piggish - loading up a plate with ten dumplings instead of taking three and going back for seconds). The food was great, though, and it was quickly replenished. I haven't stayed there in a good few years, so I can't comment on the view changes.

I like having the lounge as a respite from the room, but we're a party of six and it's nice to be able to spread out a bit more. We really benefited from the lounge when our kids were younger, too (having the afternoon snacks before or after nap time). My kids love breakfast there. And they do make a lot of friends. The adults do, too. I especially noticed this at AKL, where we'd see the same folks at night and talk about how the day went. The last time we stayed CL at AKL, I was pregnant with my youngest child, but not partaking in the adult beverages didn't change how much I enjoyed the lounge atmosphere. When I was staying CL at the Yacht Club, I had my older kids and we didn't use the lounge nearly as much as we did in the past (in the parks most of the day and the evenings, so we only had the apps once or twice). In August, I'll be staying CL at the Poly with my three-year-old, so I imagine I'll get more use out of it again.

As for buying snacks and breakfast foods and having them in the room, our experience was much like pixarmom's. We overbought and food went to waste. I realize the extra money for CL can buy a lot of cheerios, but I just hate wasting food. And I don't know why, but that hot oatmeal in the CL lounge just tastes better to me.

At the end of the day, you'll have a fabulous trip no matter where you stay. Our first trip, we had a standard room and it was wonderful. Whatever you decide have a great time. February is a nice time to visit - very low crowds and good weather (well, depending on what you're used to).

Waterlinds, hard to say regarding upgrades. We've received three complimentary upgrades in all of my WDW stays since the early 80s. One was from a non-CL room to a CL deluxe (BC), one was from a BC CL room to a 2-bedroom suite, and one was from a BWI CL room to a BWI 2-bedroom suite. I often wonder if they look at us and say, "This crazy lot with three boys needs a 2-bedroom suite!" Just kidding - I know it's based on availability and whether our stay fits the room assignment "puzzle." Our upgrades occurred in February value season, August value season and February regular season (or maybe it was peak - not sure.) We have not received an upgrade at Poly, but we've had a good streak of Poly honoring our room requests. (Knock on wood - I'm sure I just messed it up for next week by saying that.)

I remember the days of just one child, but it was long ago, so it's fuzzy! Definitely easier to do a quick breakfast with one without CL. When our youngest was an only, we stayed at CBR and CSR and didn't even know about CL yet. It will be a great trip regardless of what you decide.

Tarak, too funny about the overbuying. Same for me - I get that the cost of a zillion snacks does not equal club level costs, but I'm SO annoyed by all that wasted food. We stayed in rental apartments in Paris and London last summer and I was cringing at the stuff my husband and teens bought for the apartment kitchen - too much! I think the oatmeal in the lounge tastes better because you didn't have to make it and you didn't have to clean the pot/bowl! And a huge :thumbsup2 for the "respite from the room" comment. We're only a party of five, and we still need that! Also, really glad to hear about AKL CL. We're staying AKL CL and GF RPC before my husband joins us for our Poly CL stay - really looking forward to trying CL at AKL for the first time!

pixarmom, if Wayne is still working as a CL CM, he is wonderful. The first trip I took with my son, we decided to pin trade. Wayne saw Liam had a lanyard but no pins yet, so he let Liam pick one from his collection so he'd have one to start. And he was always giving our kids small treats. Just a really great guy. That's my favorite lounge in terms of being cozy but not too close. I think it helps that it overlooks the lobby so the space feels much bigger.
